A Watford wing-back and a Southampton striker bolster their CV’s as value acquisitions over Sunday’s encounters. Here’s the latest Stock Check from Gameweek 8…

On the Rise

Jose Holebas
A superbly struck drive provided a second goal of the season, which, coupled with a first Hornets clean sheet of the campaign, saw the Greek return a 15-point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul.

Still hovering on four bookings, one away from a ban, Holebas nonetheless represents a key defensive option at just 4.5.

The Greek benefited from Walter Mazzarri’s decision to revert to a 3-5-2, ensuring that Holebas was granted the freedom to push forward from wing-back.

Given his attacking prowess and prominence at dead-balls, Holebas appears to offer potential that can present value even when Watford’s fixtures stiffen.

Holebas faces Swansea City and Hull City in the next two Gameweeks.

Charlie Austin
His two goals in Southampton’s 3-1 victory over Burnley took him to four in his last four Gameweeks to promote his value as a 6.4 third striker option.

In a weekend that saw both Christian Benteke and Jemaine Defoe draw blanks, Austin has emerged as a clear alternative that can help to liberate valuable funds.

Austin appears to have assumed spot-kick duties from Dusan Tadic, and although he’s yet to complete 90 minutes this season, he’s started the last three for Claude Puel.

Nathan Redmond
Having suffered more than 200,000 FPL sales over the last five Gameweeks, the 5.9 midfield option returned to the scoresheet with his first strike since Gameweek 1.

Redmond has impressed in a striker role without scoring in recent weeks but appears to be integral to Puel’s attacking ploys.

However, with Sofiane Boufal approaching match fitness, it remains to be seen how Redmond slots into the Saints system in the weeks to come.

Tom Heaton
On the losing side, Heaton nonetheless boosted his stock with a stunning performance which saw him make 11 saves and earn three points plus bonus.

Heaton has now made 40 saves in total, fetching 10 points from saves this season – more than any other goalkeeper.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone else stuck with a crap defence ?

    Heaton Jak
    Valencia Williams Pieters (Evans Amat)

Haven't addressed by defence since WC in gw4 as i had more pressing issues in mid and attack

I dont think i'll address it in next 2gw's either

Yeah, but at least yours are playing football

Current backline. 1FT. 0.3 ITB. What's the most pressing issue? What's the first moooove? Appreciated.

    Pick / Jak
    Valencia / Baines / Walker / Amat / Love

    A) Jak → Grant
    B) Baines/Valencia → 5.8 (who?)
    C) Baines/Valencia → Holebas/Smith
    D) Combination & take a hit

    E) Wait A week for Baines → Cresswell
    THEN Upgrade Love → 4.5
    OR Valencia → 6.0 (Luiz/Alonso/Smalling/Mustafi)
    OR save.

Unfortunately, Hughs insists on playing Shaq as a right winger, probably due to the physicality of the prem. IMO, Shaqiri is most dangerous when he cuts inside and lays off or shoots from an angle in the centre the pitch. He's often left to just play crosses and take set piece duties at Stoke. World class player but probably not the right league or team for him sadly.

He'll undoubtedly get his goal soon and weave seen what he can do when he's confident. I doubt Stoke's ability supply their striker with goals more than I do his ability and future form.

    Who to ship out first?

    A) Antonio
    B) Defoe
    C) Evans

    0.0ITB, so I'm 0.1 short of Antonio>Sigurdsson/Arnautovic/Tadic.

    I'm a bit tempted by Antonio>Sigurdsson + either Evans>Pieters or Defoe>Austin for a hit. Thoughts?

Yeah I have both and I don't k is whether to stick or twist on either (see above post). Both good value if playing and on form, which makes me hesitate. I think people just get impatient, and bored of being disappointed

        My team atm:

        Baines/Valencia/Holebas/Amat/Evans
        Sanchez/Walcott/Sterling/Firmino/Capoue

Right, some advice needed folks. Team's in a bit of a mess right now.

    Heaton Pickford
    Valencia Williams Evans Friend Amat
    Sanchez Firmino Son Antonio Capoue
    Aguero Costa Rashford

    1 FT, 0.2 itb

That defence is giving me sleepless nights. Evans has to go but it can wait another week I suppose as he doesn't look like dropping anytime soon. Walcott is in great form so maybe get him in?

How does Antonio and Williams to Walcott and Pieters for -4 look?

How is it possible to outscore 10k avg by 7pts over the last 2 gws and drop from 22k->24.6k?

    1. Krul Runnings
      • 10 Years

No hits. I'm guessing it's the emergence of different players scoring well that the top 10k didn't have and those below me did.

Very strange nonetheless, can't really use top 10k avg as an accurate indicator of a good week anymore, back to the old green/red arrow

Last season Spurs didn't have Wanyama in midfield and had to play Dier there. This season they have the possibility of moving him down to CB, so I wouldn't say Wimmer is nailed on to play if Toby is out.

I'd still like to play Dier on midfield personally, but yeah, it's not me who makes the calls. Thanks anyway.

Or does it matter at all? Is Spurs defence a no go area if Toby is out?

Seems like Poch has been favouring Cameron-Vickers over Wimmer. Dier and Wanyama are also options.

No idea but Cameron-Vickers has generally been on the bench this season while Wimmer hasn't been making the matchday squad very often

I'd just do Benteke to Austin and not take the -4

true. however a -4 for austin v city is optimistic imo.

fair enough. tbf tekkers was very unlikely. hit the post and missed a pen - on another day he would easily grabbed a brace.

I bought Austin this week but probably benching against Man C. Not sure why you'd sell Tadic and Benteke because of a bad GW

Jakupovic to get his spot back? Hull as a team have been bad but Marshall looks worse.

Can't understand how Walcott became a good fantasy asset. He is a terrible player.

Because given minutes he's always been a good fantasy asset.

So, Southampton now has their 2 first RB's and 2 first LB's sidelined for a long time? Or how long will Targett be out?

A bit tough luck, anyway. 🙁
