A Watford wing-back and a Southampton striker bolster their CV’s as value acquisitions over Sunday’s encounters. Here’s the latest Stock Check from Gameweek 8…

On the Rise

Jose Holebas
A superbly struck drive provided a second goal of the season, which, coupled with a first Hornets clean sheet of the campaign, saw the Greek return a 15-point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul.

Still hovering on four bookings, one away from a ban, Holebas nonetheless represents a key defensive option at just 4.5.

The Greek benefited from Walter Mazzarri’s decision to revert to a 3-5-2, ensuring that Holebas was granted the freedom to push forward from wing-back.

Given his attacking prowess and prominence at dead-balls, Holebas appears to offer potential that can present value even when Watford’s fixtures stiffen.

Holebas faces Swansea City and Hull City in the next two Gameweeks.

Charlie Austin
His two goals in Southampton’s 3-1 victory over Burnley took him to four in his last four Gameweeks to promote his value as a 6.4 third striker option.

In a weekend that saw both Christian Benteke and Jemaine Defoe draw blanks, Austin has emerged as a clear alternative that can help to liberate valuable funds.

Austin appears to have assumed spot-kick duties from Dusan Tadic, and although he’s yet to complete 90 minutes this season, he’s started the last three for Claude Puel.

Nathan Redmond
Having suffered more than 200,000 FPL sales over the last five Gameweeks, the 5.9 midfield option returned to the scoresheet with his first strike since Gameweek 1.

Redmond has impressed in a striker role without scoring in recent weeks but appears to be integral to Puel’s attacking ploys.

However, with Sofiane Boufal approaching match fitness, it remains to be seen how Redmond slots into the Saints system in the weeks to come.

Tom Heaton
On the losing side, Heaton nonetheless boosted his stock with a stunning performance which saw him make 11 saves and earn three points plus bonus.

Heaton has now made 40 saves in total, fetching 10 points from saves this season – more than any other goalkeeper.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      B!

Lallana is injured seemingly right now, and there are a lot of pens to go around atm. Milner taken over from Bainesy as the dead-eyed drip feed imo

Liverpool could get a lot of penalties with their swarming play, but the penos soon dried up for Cazorla so not sure.

Are City's fixture really that great?

SOU, wba & bur in 3 of the next 5.

CHE, lei, ARS, liv in 4 of the 6 games after that, taking us up to the end of the year.

Reason I ask is because I'm debating losing Sterling for Walcott.

Thanks! Leaning towards that. He certainly seems more central to Arenal's attack than Sterling does to City's at the minute imo. And the fixtures look nicer between now and Xmas.

      • 9 Years

Are Arsenal's fixtures much better than Man City's really? Neither fantastic.

If you are really going for kind fixtures, Liverpool are best out of the elite teams. Maybe get one of their midfielders for Sterling instead? Likely to bag a sackful of points before Santa arrives!

Great point. I have Firmino and have thought of doubling up with Mane. But I like Arsenal's fixtures tbf.

Arsenal have MID, sun, BOU, whu, STK, WBA, CRY in 7 of the next 11 games, taking us up to next year.

Only 4 potentially tricky ones in that period (TOT, mun, eve, mci).

Those front 7 places are absolute gold dust imo.

I wouldn't want Joe Allen taking one tbh.

The wealth of midfield options is that much that you really can't get close to having them all this puts you even further away imo.

Cheap third strikers emerging too that are very reliable with great numbers.

He's =3rd last 3 weeks for SoT amongst mids. Obviously only 2 weeks data for liv and manu players. How is this a trap @ 4.8? He's criminally undervalued

Grand as a 5th bench mid or a short term option in that case to play the AOA possibly.

But as you say two weeks of data, hardly conclusive and those points are historic you don't get those added to your score now.

Let's see how he goes from here, I don't see him as a viable playing option.

Yes I think that's valid if it's the Smith that never plays on your bench, not yet for a hit if if its the Smith that does play.

FT Evans to Pieters would be best if you can control your trigger finger.
