A Watford wing-back and a Southampton striker bolster their CV’s as value acquisitions over Sunday’s encounters. Here’s the latest Stock Check from Gameweek 8…

On the Rise

Jose Holebas
A superbly struck drive provided a second goal of the season, which, coupled with a first Hornets clean sheet of the campaign, saw the Greek return a 15-point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul.

Still hovering on four bookings, one away from a ban, Holebas nonetheless represents a key defensive option at just 4.5.

The Greek benefited from Walter Mazzarri’s decision to revert to a 3-5-2, ensuring that Holebas was granted the freedom to push forward from wing-back.

Given his attacking prowess and prominence at dead-balls, Holebas appears to offer potential that can present value even when Watford’s fixtures stiffen.

Holebas faces Swansea City and Hull City in the next two Gameweeks.

Charlie Austin
His two goals in Southampton’s 3-1 victory over Burnley took him to four in his last four Gameweeks to promote his value as a 6.4 third striker option.

In a weekend that saw both Christian Benteke and Jemaine Defoe draw blanks, Austin has emerged as a clear alternative that can help to liberate valuable funds.

Austin appears to have assumed spot-kick duties from Dusan Tadic, and although he’s yet to complete 90 minutes this season, he’s started the last three for Claude Puel.

Nathan Redmond
Having suffered more than 200,000 FPL sales over the last five Gameweeks, the 5.9 midfield option returned to the scoresheet with his first strike since Gameweek 1.

Redmond has impressed in a striker role without scoring in recent weeks but appears to be integral to Puel’s attacking ploys.

However, with Sofiane Boufal approaching match fitness, it remains to be seen how Redmond slots into the Saints system in the weeks to come.

Tom Heaton
On the losing side, Heaton nonetheless boosted his stock with a stunning performance which saw him make 11 saves and earn three points plus bonus.

Heaton has now made 40 saves in total, fetching 10 points from saves this season – more than any other goalkeeper.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Rashford to Costa and Sanchez to Walcott ? Have 0.1 ITB to make the moves. Means I get in Lukaku, Aguero, Costa front three.

    0 ITB 2FT

    Heaton Pickford
    Valencia Coleman Lovren Holebas Amat
    Sanchez Sterling Firmino Antonio Fletcher
    Aguero Lukaku Deeney

Pretty sure I want to get rid on Antonio but not sure what moves to make
    Coleman/Valencia + Antonio to Pieters +Walcott/Arnautovic?

    Any other suggestions?

What's wrong with Everton's fixtures? I think they are alright....

Tottenham are pretty solid anyway.... just not good at keeping clean sheets away....

Antonio to Arnie this week and then Arnie to Siggy in GW15 looks perfect - though I'm sure it'll never pan out with injuries and other issues.

Think that may have just been the new gaffer trying to keep it tight in his first game away from home.

I'd expect Baston to come in next week and am even thinking of taking a punt on him.

    Looking at my FT options...

    Sterling -> Alli?

I'm concerned that Sterling faces loads of rotation now and playing that RWB role won't help.

He has already been rested once this season.

I think you underestimate the effects of a CL campaign under a manager with a track record of rotation.

      1. Virgil Hilts

Probably this. But if he continues in a kind of RWB role, at risk of CL rotation and a bit of a lightweight/injury-prone type, I may swap for Coutinho (similar type of player but no CL rotation minutes and OOP position maybe edges the same price-point).

Just to promote City's home defence for now. Some seem to think they are a bit hopeless.

    Under Guardiola

    4 Home games so far
    - only 3 goals conceded
    - =2nd best in the league for big chances conceded
    - =2nd best in the league for Shots inside the box conceded

Go on then, buy Austin. You'll be lucky if he scores.

If you're in the market for a 6.4 striker this week to facilitate moves or whatever, you should just buy him. Wilson may have 2-3 better fixtures in the short term and the decision comes down to if those 2-3 Wilson fixtures are worth an extra transfer.

          Better option and why?

          A) Son (bou, LEI, ars)

          B) Siggy (WAT, stk, MUN)

Both have there pros & cons. Fixtures are decent for both. Siggy on all set peices, possible up top in a false 9. Son plays for the better team and has form on his side.

Aguero has been nailed on for a number of season's, Son wasn't rarely playing until a couple of months ago + Poch's comments about rotation + the return of Kane. Not saying he'll be dropped but not analogous to Aguero

Because Agüero has 6 straight seasons as first choice and Son has less than six games? Jansen, Kane, Dembele, Lamela, Eriksen, Dembele, Alli could all effect his gametime in one way or another. The risk is there.

          1FT and front 8 is :

          Antonio - Son - Walcott - Alexis - Snod
          Luk - Kun - Austin

So, since I alreadt had Austin no point on getting him out, right?

Just do Antonio -> Liverpool mid (probably Lallana when fit) and bench Austin / Snod until Austin fixtures become better, right? Any other options?

How about saving FT this week. Then using 2 FTs to sell:
            Antonio & Snod > Firmino & a cheap 5th mid to bench?

Midfield looks good, same as mine almost.
Defence is expensive and you don't have Aguero (neither do I!) - he will catch fire soon.
I'd just tweak it to get him in, might mean a hit but after yesterday I can't help thinking someone's gonna suffer soon

Always aim for Top 5% in everything; FPL, women*, happiness*, money, jobs, health, mates, life in general.

But if you achieve top 10% it's decent.

            * both these sometimes not really compatible to be in top 10% / top 5%. Can have a big red arrow if not chosen wisely.

Walcott, Grant for me. If Sanchez was classified as a FWD in FPL you probably wouldn't think twice about doubling up, it's just the psychological thing with seeing two mids same team

Another good win today for my lads in the U16's league....6-1....and still top of the table...nice.

          Feeling a bit guilty though.
U16's is a strange age to manage as a few lads start to pack up and some squads thin out due to other pressures. We still have 11 starters and four subs which is great as we play roll on roll off subs under the FA rules so we keep a fresh team throughout the game (that means you can start a player, sub him off for a rest and put him back on later). Our opponents only had one sub so were at a disadvantage to start with.

I'm not sure i'm entirely happy with the rules giving us an advantage like that...

          Should it change ?

Is this madness, thinking about swapping Aguero for Costa for the season?

Costa is looking better than Aguero, he doesn't miss pens, he doesn't have to travel to South America ever, even though he's Brazilian he's now Spanish, he doesn't have European Football to play in, he looks hungry and awesome.

Could this be the end of Kun as FPL's best points scoring striker? Costa has eclipsed him by 17 points in 8 GW's already.

          Every dog has it's day.

            Madness yes

Could Costa score more than kun? No

Dunno. Against all advice I didn't bother with Aguero in UFPL last season and it was the best decision I made.

Aguero has killed it for a couple of years as he's a "reliable" week in week out pick...but he has competition in that role now...namely Costa...

The aguero doubt came into my mind when he missed a pen previously...you will be no doubt shouted down by members here, but there is so many good options and money is more important this year than it was last so I don't think getting rid of him is as bad as it sounds...I personally won't be in a rush, too many other fires..

            Why not have both?

Actually I'll add a caveat to that comment.

I'm a little unsure if kun's body will hold up to peps demand for work rate from his forwards. Remains to be seen but if he starts breaking down th3n Costa could easily be a better option.

I'm keeping a close eye on it but if both get the same minutes kun kills Costa imo

Costa is great but those yellow cards are gonna suspend his ass anytime soon.....
I'm keeping Aguero till he leaves the Premiership lol

          Who to play next week:

          A - Walker
          B - Holebas

Other two are Coleman and Kosc but want to play those two for sure

B is tempting given B'mouth scoring.

And Spurs clean sheets seem to be totally random. Walker must be due an assist soon though

Could have this team for -4 by selling McAuley & Son, worth it?

          Foster, Pickford
          Kos, Baines, Holebas, Francis, Amat
          Antonio, Sanchez, KDB, Snodgrass, Rodwell
          Kun, Lukaku, Wilson

Like Benteke always does...no change. 15 goals this season...maybe a tad more...

He's always like that. The problem is Palace just aren't that good.
