Gameweek 9 gets underway this lunchtime as in-form Bournemouth welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Vitality Stadium.

Eddie Howe’s side warmed up for this one with a 6-1 hammering of Hull City last weekend and have now won each of their last three home fixtures.

The hosts are without Junior Stanislas, however, after the winger – who bagged two goals and a pair of assists against the Tigers – was ruled out with a calf injury.

Callum Wilson and Charlie Daniels have also been subject to increased Fantasy Premier league interest this week ahead of clashes against ‘Boro, Sunderland and Stoke in the subsequent three.

Spurs are without the injured Toby Alderweireld after the Belgian was forced off against West Brom last weekend.

A goalless draw against Bayern Leverkusen means the north London side have chalked up a clean sheet in five of the last seven in all competitions, boosting their chances of extending an unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.

Son Heung-Min’s owners will also be keeping a keen eye on today’s encounter. Having earned over 328,000 transfers in prior to Gameweek 8, the South Korean was utilised as a late sub at the Hawthorns and was stationed on the left flank in Germany against his former club.

This time around, though, it looks like he will lead the line as Vincent Janssen drops to the bench.

With Leicester, Arsenal, West Ham and Chelsea directly after today’s fixture, a lack of returns could persuade Son’s 13% owners to reassess.

Why do refs seem to think that a second yellow has a higher threshold than a first? Shouldn't make any difference.

I disagree. Should have a higher threshold.

Fair enough if you think the rules should be changed but currently that's not the case.

        1. Pariße
          • 11 Years
          9 years, 9 months ago

As a ref you always have to base your decisions on making the game as fair as possible and to be as invisible as you can be. Abiding the rules like a robot without conscience or compassion makes a ref seem egocentric and in every decision you make, you have to keep in mind the possibility you are wrong. It's not in the rules, but a second yellow should have a higher treshold. That's the difference between the best and good referees, it's what makes Clattenburg officiate finals around Europe and Mike Dean stuck in the Prem.

Then they should change the rules. That's a different argument.

Like I said in the comment below. A clause of reason and fairness should be added to every law written.

I think sometimes, if the first yellow was borderline, it's fair enough.

      I can't remember Lamela's yellow, though...

The first yellow should not factor at all into the second

Yes it is. It's the ref's interpretation of the rules that decides whether or not a foul is a yellow.

                9 years, 9 months ago

Yes, that incident, but the fact of whether or not the player already had a yellow card is not supposed to factor in that decision.

It's not supposed to, but I think it's fair enough if it does.

Again, that is not the rules, so refs are either unaware of or are ignoring the rules.

It ain't an x factor style judging thing. The game is run by The Laws of Association Football.

Not arguing. Stating fact. Qualified as a ref in 2000.

The law is black and white. It shouldn't, agreed.

I disagree. We can stretch this to antropology, but this kind of mindset is the reason we have thousands of pages of laws in the Western culture. I'd much prefer the laws to be shorter and looser with a clause of reason added as obligatory, in general and football law. Everyone from the referees to lawyers and judges should act in a way that benefits all parties and fairly punishes wrongdoings, not to blindly follow the written rules for their own ideals and bias.
