Our latest captain poll has now launched to gauge your opinion on the favourites and differential options for the Gameweek 10 armband.

Arsenal’s dynamic duo of 23.8% owned Alexis Sanchez (11.3) and Theo Walcott (8.1) were the top two choices for the captaincy in Gameweek 9 and are expected to be popular once again, despite both drawing blanks at home to Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Their failure to score was not for want of trying as the pair fired off seven goal attempts between them, with all of 21.2% owned Walcott’s three shots finding the target. Away to a Sunderland side with no clean sheets this season, they seem primed to pick up points.

Another likely candidate for the summit is 29.6% owned Romelu Lukaku (9.7), who earned an assist against Burnley’s resolute defence on Saturday. With West Ham visiting he should also have more chances, as the London side have conceded nine goals across their four away fixtures this term.

Burnley may be rock solid defensively at home but away from Turf Moor it is another matter. They have shipped nine on the road and travel to a wounded Manchester United side eager to restore pride after their 4-0 away defeat to Chelsea at the weekend.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.3) has lost a further 36,144 FPL owners this week already, but with a 39.2% ownership he is still likely to be a popular captaincy pick among managers overall. We anticipate it may be a different story with our poll, after five league outings in a row without a goal.

Paul Pogba (8.3) and Marcos Rashford (6.9) offer differential options for those that believe the Red Devils can overcome Sunday’s humiliation. Both have an FPL ownership just below 10%.

Two teams with an even worse away record than Burnley present another glut of armband options.

No side has conceded more than Leicester’s 13 away goals and with the Foxes visiting Tottenham, Christian Eriksen (8.2), Dele Alli (8.2) and Heung-min Son (7.7) all step forward as viable captaincy candidates. With 20 points over his last three league appearances, Alli looks the pick of this trio.

The other travel sick side is Hull, who face a Watford side that has scored in all their home league matches this season. The Tigers’ concession of 12 goals on the road therefore gives the Hornet’s penalty taking striker Troy Deeney (7.1) significant potential for returns.

For those who want to take a risk on placing the armband on a defender, Hornets wing-back Jose Holebas (4.6) also looks enticing, with 27 points in his last three league matches.

Manchester City’s stock as the prime route to captaincy candidates has taken a knock in recent weeks with 43.9% owned Sergio Aguero (13.1) last finding the net in the league back in Gameweek 6.

If fit, Kevin De Bruyne (10.7) may offer a more secure option – the 10.1% owned Belgian was substituted against Southampton on Sunday after suffering a knock but looks likely to return when City travel to West Brom.

A final mention goes to the roulette wheel that is Liverpool’s options. With a visit to a Crystal Palace side without a clean sheet this term Sadio Mane (9.0), Philippe Coutino (8.4) and Roberto Firmino (8.5) all look strong candidates. But which will emerge with the biggest points haul from game to game remains one of this season’s key mysteries.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    Help needed!

    Heaton Pickford
    Bellerin Holebas Evans Amat Kelly
Sanchez Firmino Lallana Antonio De Roon
    Aguero Benteke Lukaku
    0.5 itb , 1 FT

I know Antonio needs to go but for who? And is it worth a hit to fix the defecen too?

may not captain him in next 3 but may captain lukaku 2 of next 3 .

    Couple of questions. Team is:

    Foster (Pickford)

    Lovren Shawcross Bellerin (friend, Amat)

    Firmino Sanchez Walcott Sterling Capoue

    Aguero Lukaku (diomande)

    1. Is playing friend instead of capoue this week a better option?

I don't think there is not much to suggest that he is not going to start firing soon.

Its not like he's being played out position or anything. I think with the fixtures they have coming up its a risk not worth taking. The inconsistency of the players you've brought in also - (sanchez and Firminho being good examples), also would put me off.

Like poker you have to play the league your in not the team....if most of your league have Kun, then no one is or everyone is scoring. If you gamble and win great, if not your going to drop.........big time!

Yep, maybe Lovren. Clean sheets look like a gamble over the next 4-5 GW, so I would limit the amount you send on Def. Ballerina has been getting bonus and assist points so probably the exception!

I was actually saved by my defence this week, did Grant and Pieters double up with Holebas and Bellerin.
No McAuley(bench1) who ended up my top points scorer, another strange week in FPL

I liked Alonso but 5.9 is too steep.
I am leaning Clyne as CS are tricky and I think Clyne might get the odd assist and BP. Lovren is a viable alternative for 0.5 less though. Cheers

Agreed, this was a defender week, my 3 man defence and keeper got me 23 points which is decent. Looked at Holebas 3 weeks ago, but he's on 4 YC, which put me off.

I like the look at moses tbh, not a defender I know, but he's been played regularly, expected to get forward and has been taking corners.

Holebas is a YC contender but as a wing back on set pieces he looks a steal, I would probably wait until he gets the ban before you put him in now.

Moses looks good but I don't see a big return from him, not without the CS points. IF he was on as a defender he would be perfect but can't see the points

              Agreed on Holebas

Moses has averaged 5ppg for the last 3, where he's been deployed in that position. For 5.5 that isn't bad, he's on my watch list, although Matic is now looking a better option at 5 mil.

Guys Would appreciate some help, current team:

    Heaton/Foster
    Bellerin/Monreal/Evans/Smith/Amat
    Ozil/Sterling/Capoue/Payet/Barry
    Kun/Lukaku/Tekkers

2 FT this week and looking at fixtures through to November. Looking at bringing in a Liverpool mid and defender to give my team a Liverpool/Man city Bias.

Should I drop Monreal or Bellerin (Leaning towards Monreal as little in the way of bonus points) and who out of Ozil and Payet should get dropped? Ozil a different player without Carzola and some uncertainty over the latters injury. Payet is involved in everything WH do.....but its not a lot!

    Advice welcomed.

I would say Payet to be dropped, I worry for West Ham until they find effective firepower. None of their fit strikers look likely to score so you are just relying on Payet goals with so few options to assist.

Ozil looks a better option and no matter how Arsenal line up he will be a big part of what they do.

If Chelsea had better fixtures then I would suggest Haz but Liverpool have excellent fixtures. Which Liverpool mid though?

Lallana - is who I'm leaning towards due to consistency. However, with bringing him in and Lovren (for monreal), I'll have money next week to bring in Countiho/Firminho for Capoue. Giving me a mid of:

        Sterling/Lallana/Coutinho/Ozil/Barry

Heck of a Mid, probably Barry for Matic/Allen at a later date if no other pressing matters. If to Allen might allow Mane instead of Firm/Cout if that's your preferred but who knows which is best?

My brother has had Barry all season though and he has got points I never expected so as a 5th Mid can't be too bad.

Yeah, with 3 up front I'm looking at that 5th mid to just play 90, not going to be a point hauler!

That being true could always downgrade Barry as well but that's really just a banking exercise

Had an awful few weeks - would this help to fix me up?

    OUT - Williams, Sterling, Antonio

IN - Pieters, Coutinho, Alli (-8)

    Stekelenburg
    Holebas - Stones - Walker
    Coutinho - Mane - Walcott - Sanchez - Sterling
    Wilson - Deeney

I'm thinking of subbing out Sterling for De Bruyne. Should I do it?

I'm thinking Matic could be the key 4th mid... Can he keep up this consistency? A cheap way into Chelsea and he really seems to be coming into his own. Priced to allow a really solid remaining 6. Sure hes massively unlikely to ever get a haul, but if he's consistently getting more than 2, thats fine for a 7th front man... right?

Thoughts please? Not sure whether to play my WC?

    My team is:

    Heaton (Jak)
    Fonte Williams Valencia Pieters Amat
    Walcott Firmino KDB Capoue Snodgrass
    Aguero Costa Austin

Prob thinking of holding off against playing my WC and replacing Snoddy for Shaqiri/Bolasie - I have 7m to spend.

    Look forward to your comments
