Few players can compare to Sergio Aguero when it comes to punishing Fantasy Football managers.

So we should not be surprised by today’s 16-point haul – an emphatic message to the doubters who questioned his ability to deliver, amidst speculation on his pitch time and relationship with manager Pep Guardiola.

Aguero’s superb brace at the Hawthorns defied our preconceptions that this was a player low on confidence. His second, a sublime long-range curling effort, was typical of Aguero at his best, providing a chilling warning to those who now progress without him.

I’d personally been burned by a spiteful Aguero in the past – a factor which likely saved me from ejecting him prematurely.

Over the past two Gameweeks, almost 100,000 had decided on such a path – this evening they are left pondering the damage of that trade – not just as a result of today’s return, but also the points that could loom ahead of Manchester City’s obliging run of fixtures.

Middlesbrough are next at the Etihad, an opponent that recently proved stubborn at the Emirates and who earned a second successive clean sheet in today’s win over Bournemouth.

Many will now be praying for resistance from Aitor Karanka’s charges; hoping that City and Aguero are left weary by their midweek Champions League date with Barcelona, or even that Guardiola will risk stirring the pot by resting him from League action.

That seems unlikely.

The 4-0 win over West Brom saw City regain their mojo. The City boss will surely look to maintain momentum, with the League table hinting at the most competitive and open title race in memory.

Typically for a season now renowned for fickle fluctuation, in the space of seven days, things have turned on their heads: ignoring Aguero suddenly looks preposterous.

Certainly, there are no clear alternatives.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic again peppered the Old Trafford goal without reward against Burnley. Troy Deeney and Christian Benteke drew their third successive blanks, while Jermain Defoe lived off scraps and mustered a spot-kick in the defeat to Arsenal – his first goal in four outings.

Sunday will see both Romelu Lukaku and Diego Costa take their turn. Aguero already has a stronger points per match ratio than the latter, he’ll also surpass Lukaku should the Everton man dare to blank.

We await Harry Kane’s return and perhaps Arsene Wenger’s intentions with Olivier Giroud but, in all honesty, by the time they have established pitch time and form, Aguero will surely have taken further strides.

For all the funds we can pour into our midfield, there is currently no tu replacement for Aguero in attack and, with the majority of armbands set to head his way in Gameweek 11, we only risk further punishment by overlooking him.

A truly frightening prospect.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ibra has fallen victim to some great saves over the last couple of months

Given his attempts on target he could have easily had 5 goals over that period but some great goalkeeping has stopped him

I think because it's the great Ibra that it gives keepers that extra 1% desire to make a great save

Not sure if it will happen this gw, but I believe a fit and playing Stanislas is a massive benefit to Wilson's output.

It's no coincidence that Wilson's form improved when Stanislas returned to the team imo.

            Bolasie is superior creatively imo.

            This season:

Bolasie 14 chances created (661 mins) ie chance created every 47mins
Deulofeu 5 chances created (293mins) ie chance created every 58mins

Let's also not forget that in 2014/15 Bolasie had 12 assists in the league.

Think I might downgrade Coleman and then either upgrade (Lallana, Sterling, Deeney, ) or just save 1 ft.

    Have 2ft's.
    Pickford, Heaton
    Lovren, Holebas, Coleman, Walker, Amat.
    Lallana, Wally, Sànchez, Sterling, Whelen.
    Aguero, Lukaku, Deeney
    2ft, 0.2m in bank..

I think Heaton can get the most points ever for a GKer. He's capable of earning clean sheets single handedly. Even if he doesn't he still racks up the saves. Non owners should seriously consider getting him in.

I think gaining that much cash from a bench midfielder is moe than you could reasonably expect. Take it and run.

Just watched Utd match. That Ibrahimovic shot on 60 min mark was stunning, how he generated so much power. Has to be the unluckiest player in the league right now

I would say more of a superb save that kept the shot out rather than being unlucky

hit bar too, and his volley was unlucky too, scuffed a few shots too. He'll go on some crazy run after christmas I bet, when things settle down

as shearer said if there was more pace around him he'd do better, I'll wait till he starts playing mhkitaryan or have rashford up front with him

Disagree there. He's been flanked by the likes of Rashford, Lingard and Martial. What difference would pace make? He's been having an insane amount of shots. Will a faster player next to him make his shot go in? I doubt that....

I reckon he just needs more luck.

I agree with you too, I think Shearer was suggesting that a faster centreforward would be better than flankers.

Yes, some maybe poor execution but he has played some great stuff that on most days would have resulted in goals. Just not had the rub of the green. Then you get wakn stains like Koscielny scoring with their hand

I might take a punt and get him in, he's about to go on a crazy run of form I feel.

He's been denied by a mixture of poor finishing, some great goalkeeping, and the age old bad luck.

Rightly or wrongly, so often most measure 'form' based only on results and the amount of wins, goals and assists an individual player or team has accumulated.

If form is only measured based on those results, then MU and Zlatan are in terrible form.

Personally, I think the number of chances being created and the number of shots Zlatan is getting, shows both player and team are actually in better form than they've been given credit for, just that they aren't getting the 'results' based on a poor conversion rate; simple bad luck; and most importantly the better form of some individual goalkeepers.

Yes they've also had a couple terrible performances such as the Chelsea match, but imo this was more of an anomaly rather than the norm.

I still think Zlatan will get a haul sooner rather than later, and I think it will be with a 3 or 4 goal bang. I don't know if it's the right or wrong decision to keep him or not for that inevitable haul, but as I've done so for Sanchez, Kane and Aguero in the past, I'm keeping faith with the strong stats - poor conversion rate = inevitable haul theory, and keeping him myself.

The reason for this is that I think my team is in good shape so I see no urgency to get rid of him, and I also still believe that besides Aguero (who I also have), no other striker has the same explosive potential and quality to be consistently explosive once the conversion rate improves.

So far the stats suggest this could be true, however the results tell us it's not. I guess it's a matter of how one interprets form? 🙂

I was one that capped Deeney instead of Kun today. Goos points, but could have been so much better. Hard to forget the -1 cap days ago though.

Surgery for Valencia on broken arm, looks like selling only option. So frustrating having kept him for this particular match. Was hoping he would punish sellers, and if it was not for the broken arm he probably would have

Just did last night Capoue + Lukaku to Coutinho + Austin for -4.

    Bellerin, Koscienly, Walker
    Sanchez, Firmino, Coutinho, Allen
    Defoe, Austin, Aguero (c)
