Our first members article of the week delves into the Gameweek 10 data. We take time to assess the recent ascent of Joe Allen and Eden Hazard and analyse the City and United attacks, before casting an eye over Bournemouth’s improving playmaker and Tottenham’s raiding left-back.

    GK: Dea (Valdes)

DEF:Stones, VanDijk, Morgan ( Evans, Williams)

MID: Sanches, Firmino, KDB, Gundagon, Redmond

    STR: Lukaku, Wilson (Benteke)

brought in Evans, KDB and Gundogan (-4)

    for Walcott, Lallana and valencia

so i think its an improvement

Before the season started, Payet was the only player I knew I wanted to have for the entire season but the plethora of cheaper, performing midfield options this season has increased my expectations of him at his price. I'll be keeping an eye on him over the next 5 weeks and will reassess then

Thinking A. But I will have Bellerin and KDB all season I think. KDB and Payet in mid looks so good. Wtf is he doing at hammers. And wtf happen to them anyway always though Bilic such good management material. Maybe just blip or maybe needs to spend some bucks at the back?

      1. Hy liverpool

bellerin may be out ?! may do amat and payet to kdb and playable defender (if i wanted to keep bellerin but that means that i keep arnie too)

i think they will do well when ayew/carroll and cresswell all back (fully fit) and when billic fix that defence .... he is a great manager, i like him

In the last 4 PL GWs, Gundogan has 7 shots, 6 pen area touches and 9 created chances. Quite decent numbers, especially at 5.5m, but I still think it will end in "tears". Pep's setups are mercurial, and his two braces involved 3 tap-ins and a Foster error:

    WBA:

    Barca:

Aren't tap ins the most sustainable type of goals? Surely it's a good thing if he's getting far enough upfield to benefit from them

Yes it is definitely a good thing that he's getting into those positions but with his qualities on the ball I'm not convinced he'll routinely be leveraged in such an advanced position. At that price, I can see why some are thoughtfully gambling, but I do think many are simply points chasing and some even have no idea what role he played in the past at Dortmund.

    3. devils advocate
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

Yeah, I'm not going to say he's not the real deal, especially based on his past performances at another club in a different role, but I'm going the cautious path and will wait to see more.

He'll still be a bargain at 6 or even 6.5mil if he continues this form. No need to rush imo.

There is no rush to sell Sanchez. His price is such that he can be downgraded to any mid in the game and he has 6 goals and 4 assists in his last 7 PL starts and 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 3 CL matches.

People are just obsessed with points-chasing, even following a brace, apparently.

Deeney to Austin after the EL matches, or save IMO.

That GK combo still has some mileage on it as Pickford has (bou, HUL) next. But I'd look at upgrading Pickford to a 4.6er soon tbh, probably the weakest poor in your squad right now along with Deeney.

Yeah, Spurs have one hell of a tough run from here until December. Very congested schedule. Probably looking at either Cedric or Fuchs to replace him soon.

I wanted to do Antonio + Deeney --> Gundogan + Austin for -4pts.

It is probably not worth it for a hit though, should i do only 1 this week. If so, which one?

The only other things to look at include getting in Fuchs or Alonso for Lovren or Walker once the Deeney to Austin move is made, but that's more something to monitor.

I might need to sort out Amat if the loss doesn't sway Bradley towards playing him again

    .........................Pickford
    .........Koscielny - Holebas - Clyne
    Redmond - Sanchez - Coutinho - Mane
    ............Austin - Aguero - Lukaku

    Foster; Amat, De Roon, Evans

tempted by a Cout/Mane cap though Aguero is hard to ignore on his/City's form and Austin could always be the gameweek's big winner..

It's always the weeks that you feel really good about your team that you have the crappest of scores.

With that, how's this looking for an AOA (if Walcott is healthy):

    Heaton
    Clyne - Fuchs
    Sanchez - Mane - Firmino - Walcott - Gundogan
    Aguero (C) - Austin - Wilson

Bench: Pickford - Holebas - Amat - Kone

That's 10 of the 11 starters playing at home, and the other one (Austin) playing Hull. Again, this is bound to fail miserably, right?

Thanks. This is the last chance saloon for Wilson. If he can't score at home to Sunderland it'll be time to switch to Rondon for a few weeks or figure out a way to bring in Lukaku. But this is as good a week as any to try out the (rarely effective, and sometimes detrimental) AOA, I think.

    GK Grant, Jakupovich

Bellerin & Walcott out - Fuchs & Coutinho in. Leaves 0.4itb.

    Foster
    Fuchs, Smith, Holebas
    Sanchez, Coutinho, Firmino, Allen
    Aguero (c), Costa, Lukaku

    Jaku, Capoue, Pieters, Amat

Anything worth a hit or gtg.

Redmond if he stays OOP. They have wonderful fixtures until GW 25.

Lallana is another option if you are not already doubled up with Pool mids in which case I think it is too much.

Allen as a benched 5th, but I don't expect that is the case with the value.

The jury is still out on Gundogan. Chadli is another short term punt.

I thought in would be fun to delve into the progress of my team from last year to give myself faith that I could still get a good OR this season. But very discouraging to see that I was in the top 100K at this point last year. Already had 5 red arrows this year compared to 9 the entire last season. Also only took 4 hits last season compared to this year's 5 already.

The fun thing is that my (miserable) little less than 500 points this year has me at 800K OR, while the 25ish points more last year had me at an OR around 100K.

Not the encouragement I was hoping for, so I guess I have my work cut out for me! Anyone else have more encouraging stats from previous years to give me hope?

I was 220K in GW10 and finished 20K. 86 points better off and 8.5K so far. Smashing the DGW can make up for 36 average GWs.

Thanks. Fun to hear about other's history.

Yeah I know the DGWs can really help you a lot. But still I got 107 and 146 in last year's double game weeks, but when you enter the top, the difference isn't that big because everyone up there will use them. For example GW 36 took me from 11-7K with only 58 points, while DGW 37 took me from 7->3K with 107 points.

Went from 500k around gw28 to finish 18k. Had 9 greens in a row. Had 112.5 TV by time of gw30 wildcard. That helped.

Holy shish kebab what a TV! and a very impressive comeback.

I've always been horrible at hoarding value, as I tend to get very stubborn with a few underperforming players throughout the seasons, who just sheds value. My final TV was only 104,8 last season and finished just outside the top 5K.

Guess it won't be possible this yeah with all the heavy hitters actually performing.

    4. Jay_
        9 years, 5 months ago

        I) Play Holebas (liv) or Pieters (whu)?

II) Play Foster (lei) or Pickford (bou)?

Currently on Holebas as he carries assist threat, but even if he gets an assist, it's likely he'll get at least -1 for two goals conceded, maybe even -2 for four goals conceded. Therefore no bonus. Can't see Stoke keeping us out but don't think we'll score as much as 'pool.

Currently on Foster as I'm just sick of Pickford and SUN. However, Sunderland do have the better paper fixture.

Thanks in advance for replies, dozing off Zzzzzz.

Would go for Holebas based on attacking threat and Pickford for save points. I would "risk" the extra -1 for the higher possibility of an assist or a goal.

I don't expect either of the 4 to get clean sheets though, but I expect a tough defensive week for a lot of managers here..

Holebas and Foster for me, for the reasons you stated. Holebas has so much more attacking threat, and Pool continue to give up goals for fun. And Foster just because Pickford, well, yeah (I have him too and finally gave in and picked up Heaton this week...I just couldn't take another week of it).

Southampton playing Inter just less than 3 full days before Hull so is it best to wait to get Austin in? Huge game for them actually also considering how tight that group is. Who has been playing up front for them in Europe?

Austin started the first group game- you may recall it was the game where he insisted on taking the penalty over Tadic

Since then Long has started both- but he is injured. With j Rod also likely out, and given the need for a positive result I would be surprised if Austin didn't start against Inter

What bearing that has on the hull game remains to be seen I suppose
