Harry Kane has shown perfect timing.

On the day that saw Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku frustrate 40% of Fantasy Premier League managers, the Spurs striker stepped up to deliver a first double-figure haul and underline his undeniable potential as a game-changer.

Five goals in his last four Premier League starts, albeit broken up by a spell on the sidelines, indicates that Kane is riding a flow of form that can now see him break up the established template in attack.

A prolific Jermain Defoe and Charlie Austin’s improving fixtures will likely ensure that we retain a mid-price option as a third striker – dismissing the idea of squeezing Kane alongside our present heavy hitters.

That will put the heat on Aguero and Lukaku.

The latter went into Gameweek 12 having already seen his increase in ownership slow following his Stamford Bridge blank. Today’s 2-point return, with 11% backing him with the armband, will no doubt spark sales and, in all likelihood, a first decline in the Belgian’s ownership since Gameweek 3.

It’s difficult to gain confidence from Everton’s schedule.

A trip to a resilient Southampton follows for Gameweek 13, with Goodison Park encounters with Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool to follow in the next four.

Lukaku is capable of scoring points in those matches, but can he keep pace with a resurgent Kane?

Despite those doubts, the pressure on Aguero is perhaps even more intense given his price tag, the doubt generated by Guardiola’s tinkering and the seemingly relentless stream of points being delivered by Kevin De Bruyne.

We were ready to fall at Aguero’s feet following his emphatic Hawthorns haul but, two Gameweeks on, the doubts are creeping back.

He let down 29% of FPL managers with the captaincy today and that, against the backdrop of Kane’s brace, will ruffle feathers.

The fee demanded by the Argentine guarantees that we will constantly be fidgeting – he almost has to deliver a goal a game and assure us of consistent returns in order to cement the captaincy and earn his keep.

Turf Moor offers a foreboding venue for Aguero to restore confidence next weekend. Following that, Guardiola’s side will take on Chelsea – Aguero will likely have to earn his opportunities against the Blues’ newly robust defence.

Meanwhile, Kane offers home fixtures with Swansea City, Hull City and Burnley to follow the Gameweek 13 trip to Stamford Bridge.

It’s a scenario that looks perfectly staged.

We bank our transfers, give Lukaku or Aguero next weekend’s run-out and then take action in Gameweek 14 should they falter.

Those trading Aguero can then distribute the significant funds spared – perhaps to consider De Bruyne as a reassuringly expensive midfield option.

Regardless of our current thinking – the masses will now be circling Kane.

With an ownership of just 6%, he provides a potential route back for those managers treading water – a genuinely explosive differential that can be trusted with the armband for that trio of tempting White Hart Lane fixtures.

Those trailing mini-leagues surely have to consider the move, but it’s an unwelcome development for those streaking ahead and settled with a midfield and forward line template. Kane can be a disruptive force that can punish those that sit still.

The bandwagon is moving, and if Costa is the next to slip off the suspension tightrope at the Riverside Stadium, we will need to brace ourselves for some major acceleration.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Is my team GTG?

    Grant
    Morgan / Evans / Holebas / Amat
    Firmino / Coutinho (C) / Sanchez (VC)
    Costa / Agüero / Jane

    Bench : Pickford / Capoue / Coquelin / Nyom

    1) Should I start Capoue ahead of Amat/Holebas/Evans ?
    2) Suggestion for Armband pick ?

    Cheers

So when is the world going to accept that KDB is a better pick than Kun. In games where they played 60+ minutes,

KDB - 2 blanks in 9 (SUN, EVE)
Kun - 4 blanks in 9 (WHU, tot, SOU, cry)

That's not what you want to see from your 13 mil striker who needs to be captained frequently to justify the money spent on him.

Aguero has two hatricks and 3 braces already this season.
Pep has definitely messed with his reliability, but on the flip side he is more explosive than ever and on target to smash his personal scoring record.
Not sure why you are comparing him to a mid though. It's Costa, Kane, ibra I weigh him against, plus change.

Two hatricks in EPL? For Fpl purposes, only that matters. The comparison with Kdb is to show who is the best route into city. Most pple dont go for KDB bcos thry already own Kun. Among the forwards, Kun is the 4th highest scoring, with a player at 60% of his price outscoring him. So he loses out even there.
Selling Kun and investing in Mids is the way to go

What competition they score in makes not a lick of difference. We are trying to predict what they do in future games not count past points.
I don't consider attacking coverage at all when choosing players.
I am probably selling aguero gw14 fwiw

Unless u give me a metric which doesn't involve looking at past points, or performance, there's no way to predict the future.

If you aren't the coverage type of guy, fair enough. This post is addressed to those who are. And the majority are of that mentality.

At the moment, Kun is neither the best striker option nor the best route into Man City

            1. Get up ya bum
              • 16 Years
              9 years, 3 months ago

But we agree on the metric. Assess past performances to help predict future ones. Only difference is you are choosing to ignore half the games for some reason.

I'm on the fence as to which is better. Will change at different times I guess and right now I'd lean to kdb. I rate him higher as a player too.

Nearly all the analysis done here look only at EPL games. And what I put up is some looking at past performances this season in EPL. If we were to consider UCL games, then Ozil shud would be on everyone's lips at a fantastic goalscoring mid.
I agree to your call that KDB is better at the moment. If you look closely he has been better ever since his debut. He's just flown under the radar for various reasons

    ==============================UPDATED============================

The main ScoreSheet has been updated. Check your teams' scores (adjusted for hits).

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ixTSgtIt4rJI2IEINbP-Jt_Ty0fQtbK0m-Tk6oFl-0E/edit?usp=sharing
    _____________________________________________________________________

Also, there is a Differentials Spreadsheet which updates the Total Team Score LIVE during the matches. All you have to do is:
    1. Save a copy so that you can edit the cells
    2. Enter the 6 IDs of the teams (yours and opponents) into the sheet

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16awBDiuiEL8pm4-ej75Zy1Ys0v_9lbaDVkEag84aXlo/edit?usp=sharing

The number of players on both teams should update automatically in a moment with details of how many Agueros for example. The captain is counted twice automatically. This score is only for the XI on your pitch as FPL website does not account for autosubs before the matches have ended. (And doing this in the spreadsheet will complicate things too much)

The total team score is shown on top.
