“All this taking hits, it gets a bit moreish.”

One of my favourite all-time quotes from the ScoutCast arrives in this week’s episode, as Jonty does his best to explain another abject Gamework return.

Struggling with misfortune and misfiring moves, our former resident “dullard” is now resigned to chasing memories from his season – those maverick move successes he can store and take with him for future campaigns.

There’s nothing maverick about my season right now, as I furiously back-peddle on my exit plans and watch Andy and Jonty jump and fall into the no-Aguero abyss without me. Granville tries to talk me over the edge, but I’m not budging.

Elsewhere in this week’s episode, we tackle the Philippe Coutinho injury fall-out head-on, chase our tails on “essential” assets and attempt to settle the Walcott vs Sanchez and Hazard vs Pedro arguments.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How often do the stats on FPLstatistics get updated? It has said Sigurdsson needs 1240 more purchases for him to go up for the last 60 minutes but also has 2 blue arrows. They can't both be right/wrong. Any insights? I'd love to wait until after the press conferences to make a decision about whether to take a hit to get him.

Rarely though as it is 98% accurate for risers (apparently). Can't you use your magic to tell me what the correct decision is? -8 hit or wait.

Do you know how the 98% is made.

Interesting, I didn't know that. They often show up over 100 before they rise, I presumed that was included in the accuracy %

As Zoopa says, he definitely will before 11am Sat BUT at least I can make an informed decision about it. The problem for me is that I want Cedric AND Sigurdsson but I can't afford both. It is one or the other unless I take an 8 point hit before either goes up (I have exactly the money).

Would it be daft to do Firmino > Alli/Eriksen?

Really want Spurs coverage, has to be a mid as I don't want to change my front line of Kun Costa Austin.

I disagree. You shouldn't look at the price. Alonso probably the best long term option if all defenders, but this week playing the joint top 2 scoring team away from home. Playing Aguero would deter me from playing any defender always. Furthermore Stoke has a very good chance of a CS this week

Cout to siggy done, finally. A good half mil lost probably because life getting in the way of fpl lately. Need to sort my priorities out before I end up in jonty territory.
So many away this week. Still got two freebies going forward though, and building the bank to finally upgrade benteke to a big hitter after the hull game.
Side note, all the talk of hits vs conservative strategies. Mine changes on a week by week basis. Some weeks I see hits that seem like wise gambles. Other weeks things look more uncertain and patience seems like the way to go. Don't see the need to lock myself into a philosophy. Hits are considered 4 point gambles that also effect every other transfer decision you will make going forward. They have paid off in spades this season so far for me. Likewise in my strongest ever season. Been times where it's gone the complete other way too. My 2c

I stopped reading after you said life got in the way and FPL was not number 1 priority 🙂
Seriously I am tending to take hits when price rises and falls will impact my planned transfers. When this is not the case I sit and wait and less likely to take a hit

Just this second brought Sigurdsson in for an 8 point hit (Williams for Tymon and Allen for Sigurdsson - had already done Coutinho for Pedro). Cedric in for Kone next GW. The question now is, for this weekend, is it:
    A) Sigurdsson 352
    B) Anichebe 343

Leicester are woeful away from home.

Worst part is, I won't even be playing either of the new players this week as Tymon is bench fodder and I fancy Anichebe at home to Leicester more than Sigurdsson against Spurs with Rose and Tony.

Well gents.. How am I shaping up

Dont normally ask for a RMT but here goes..

Already done Lukaku>>>Kane with 1 ft so i have 1 left .. & $1.7 itb and 55k OR but have suffered a few red arrows over the last few weeks..looking to arrest the slide !!

    Pickford

    Alonso / Lovren / Holebas

    Haz / Firmino / Walcott / Allen

    Kun / Kane (C) / Austin

Subs: Jaku / Capoue / Evans / Amat

Anything worth using my other free tranny for ? Really tempted to get Cedric in tonight to avoid price rise etc..

Short term targets are Cedric & Siggy, can do Evans>>Cedric no problem but need to raise funds for Siggy any ideas ??

    Cheers

I hope so as they have a few tough games ahead. I am keeping McAuley and Holebas I think. Actually, if I can make my next transfer (Cedric) I think I will keep my defence for the rest of the season, injuries aside.

I'd play Evans and Holebas instead of Lovren. B'mouth have picked up in form and are designed to attack. Liverpool will win but I bet they concede at least 1.

Sanchez has been such an annoying player for me. When he's in my team, he scores 3-5 points and I keep thinking he's bad value. When he's out of my team, I'm fearing 15 pointers every week.

    1. Walsh
      • 12 Years

He is bad value like Aguero is bad value. But, paying for points is part of the game....can't always squeeze value for money out of each and every player. One of those set and forget types.

Agree with most of what you said but he's unlike Aguero. Fine paying premium for Aguero since you'll captain him five weeks out of seven. San(c)hez is not that straightforward. 3,5,3 against bur, SWA, MID. I owned him and as a result my 4th mid was Snodgrass. Wasn't working, especially when he blanked. Swapped both for Mane and Siggy. Done slightly better but now the fear.

Meh 🙂 Aguero blanks in home bankers / against weak sides too. Sometimes that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Check out the way you've played "The Hazard Sanchez game". If you've only held 1 than add the points you've gathered trough all the GWs and see if you're beating a holder of Hazard or Sanchez from the start (some1 that didn't shuffle trough them throughout the season).

also consider the number of transfers used and the TV gained/lost trough the process.

I hate you!.. for making me realize how poorly I have managed my team.

I have only gotten 107 points combined from them (including 2 failed captaincies). FOUR rounds I have had them both and spent 2 transfer (excluding WC) on them.

Horrible horrible research of my own failings as a FPL manager. No wonder my season is utter kak!

Thank you for the lesson, but I still hate you 😉

But still it is very poor considering I have had 2 captaincies and four rounds having both. Just by having one of them consistently would have given 87/88 point.

I was reading an article on another fpl site this morning, all things something or another.
A section of the text goes like this:

An "unplayable ball into the corridor of uncertainty."

"I owe the beautifully worded title here to Shamoon Hafez, who was manning the BBC’s live text desk for the Liverpool v. Leeds league cup tie on Tuesday and which I was following while at my desk (Yes, your scribe here is not the manager of a high-flying club; rather a mere desk jockey. Sad.). Hafez was describing the pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold into the path of Divock Origi for Liverpool’s first goal. The “corridor of uncertainty”. Ah, brilliant, Shamoon. Who says you cannot create poetry in a text ?"

The site in question does not offer the opportunity to post comments so I'm forced to bring mine here.

I understand the author of this piece may be an American so on this occasion I will forgive him for not crediting Geoffrey Boycott or even Allan Border (for it may have been the Despicable creature that coined the phrase).

    For me it's pure Boycott.

    Don't let it happen again.

Actually it does. You just have to sign up. Costs nowt and takes a few seconds.

While "the corridor of uncertainty" is definitely a cricketing expression such footballing luminaries as the disgraced Sepp Blatter have been known to use the similar "zone of uncertainty" to describe the space between the final defender and the goalkeeper.

I wonder why they don't just tell us what the rules / thresholds are for price changes. Why is that not in the actual rules section of the FPL game? Why is it a guarded secret? They could easily just integrate it into their native website under a transfer movement section or something. Seems stupid.
