And so the power shifts once again.

I can barely remember witnessing such upheaval: where we’ve had to re-consider where our big-money is spent and switch our sights, not only due to form, but simply availability.

We started the season coveting Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Then Diego Costa emerged, followed swiftly by Eden Hazard as Chelsea blossomed. Now Harry Kane, with seven goals in five, becomes a priority.

While these players battle for recognition in our squads, Sergio Aguero was considered by most as a mainstay: a factor that required little consideration.

That theory wavered back in Gameweek 3 but today’s events may have changed it for good.

Aguero had not served a suspension until this season. Now he is set to miss at least seven weeks of this campaign before the turn of the year. Few, if any, could have anticipated that.

Hours after the bombshell at the Etihad, Alexis Sanchez then provided his own explosion.

We always knew the dangers: deployed up front by Arsene Wenger, he has always been part of the heavy-hitter debate.

But, with heads turned by Chelsea’s faultless form and the promise from Eden Hazard, some, including this Fantasy manager, chose to lose Sanchez’ special talent, keeping Aguero locked into our attacks.

Now, with the City striker being ejected from squads throughout the land, the sacrifices required to gain the likes of Hazard, Costa and Marcos Alonso – all so alluring with Chelsea’s form and fixtures – no longer apply.

When I showed Sanchez the exit ahead of Gameweek 12, opting to sell Aguero was something I pondered, but quickly dismissed.

Today’s events punished that particular decision. They also force us re-examine the established thinking.

We are so set on Aguero. His place is so cemented in Fantasy Football folkore, the prospect of progressing through a season, or even a period of Gameweeks without him almost seems unthinkable.

But while a saintly Costa is scoring goals and avoiding the booking that will see him serve a one-match ban, we’ve seen Aguero inexplicably become an unreliable hothead.

We can’t begin to fathom how those roles have been reversed. We can only react to what we’ve now been dealt.

While those without Sanchez are denied the convenience of carrying out a like-for-like swap for Aguero, even with the cost of an additional transfer, it will likely prove a popular route.

Acquiring Sanchez no longer comes packaged with such sacrifice now that Aguero is out of the equation, his millions available to us.

In Gameweek 4 we formed plans to sell a suspended Aguero and bring him back two weeks later. This time around the landscape may have changed.

As of today, it seems likely that few will be forgoing Sanchez for Aguero should that decision ever arise again.

Although it’s almost folly to make such predictions in a season that refuses to allow us to settle in our thinking.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

such a tough one in terms of who to remove...

if i remove walcott, i will end up with a uber cheap def. Just looking at fixtures, i think i can make it work for about 2-3 weeks then reassess by potentially downgrading one of the attacker/mids.

which swans def is more nailed on?

Is it too late to get Costa if you haven't already? He's quite expensive now, at potentially 10.9m for next GW...

Anyone else REALLY hoping Lukaku wakes up tomorrow as don't want to be forced into selling him for a hit to get Costa who then gets injured or suspended!

hard one,(before weekend)i was all set on bringing in defoe, hazard, alonso. Now im really tempted by costa, hazard, with a 4.9 defender instead..costa is a high price but i think he is essential with those december fixtures..he will be fit to play, the YC thing is a pain in the arse but that shouldnt stop us adding him in..hes been walking that tightrope for several weeks

Ignoring the haul today, it's just nice to see Sanchez getting the respect he deserves.

To see him kicked to the kerb so easily a few weeks ago and to see people talking about 'covering' him with Walcott really baffled and irritated me, I guess I'm lucky to see his excellence live every other week so never doubted him for a second, hopefully this will be the end of people thinking he's disposable, far from it, he's up there fighting for the spot of the best player in the league, wouldn't have thought that two or three weeks ago but looks it now.

A lot changes in football very quick, and in even more so in FPL. 3 or 4 blanks in a row and he'll be sold by most.

Agreed, its something about those South American players, when they go down they dont bitch and moan, they keep on working. Sanchez is such a nice player to watch, he is the total focus of his team and is selfless enough to allow other players to have a go at goal

its the cost, when you have an 11+m mid then you need him to be scoring like this every week pretty much to justify value..................yes he is great but hes priced as much

That's another can of worms IMO, value, some players are 'must haves' regardless of price because over the course of the season they will hurt you more often than not if you don't own them.

Too much is made of value for said players, surely you should be identifying your 'must haves' and be searching for value everywhere else not the other way round???

Just seems trends have been extra knee jerky this year, Sanchez is the prime example, massive haul against Sunderland, blank the following week then kicked to the kerb likes he's Robert Snodgrass and now people are falling over themselves to get him back now.
