With a break in our open to all Fantasy Premier League cup competition during the midweek fixtures, we spend some time this evening to see who has made it through to fifth round, which takes place during Gameweek 17 this coming weekend.

A reminder that, for this latest contest, there are more than £1,000 worth of prizes for UK based entrants courtesy of our partner FanDuel, as well as £350 in Amazon vouchers to the top three managers at the end of the competition.

In addition the highest scoring manager each round wins a £30 FanDuel credit, with community regular Moin earning this prize after his 65 point Gameweek 15 haul. He next faces msq22 in round five.

The next four highest scoring managers in round four win a £10 FanDuel credit. These will be handed out to Pinky Unites, who scored 63, DJDave1979, who scored 61 along with twobitgooner, and BC1, Bashvilla, Hagop, who all hit the 60 point mark.

The highest placed manager left in the competition is 216 ranked Bacuna Matata, who along with Pink Unites, won a £30 FanDuel voucher for the top highest score back in the third round.

The unfortunate manager to face this early frontrunner to win the competition is lowlifegimpe, who is ranked 337,555.

In a closely fought contest, our only remaining Fantasy Football Scout staff representative, TorresMagic, has made it through to round five, after squeezing past Zambhino10 by just a single point.

The moderator has another tough encounter in store when he takes on Smooth Rossi, who at 6,687 in the overall rankings is more than 7,000 places above him.

Other eye catching ties taking place in round five include Funkyav’s clash with Big Phil Soccer Team and Cobberlsnz taking on Bash Villa, who incidentally sent me packing back in the first round.

The fourth round results can be found via this link, while the full fifth round draw can be found here.

Good luck to those still involved and if you would like more information on the schedule and prizes click this link.

    Foster

    Sanchez Hazard Firmino Zaha
    Kane Costa Iheanacho

    Pickford Capoue Holebas Wilson

Do I go Firmino ➡️ Payet now or do that this weekend along with Iheanacho ➡️ Anichebe? This would set me up to fix my defense and get a stronger 4th/5th mid to play 3-5-2.

Previous advice was hold. I agree .1 loss on Firmino ain't that bad in the overall scheme of things. Gives you more time to think about the moves. Firminio just as likely to haul as Eriksen and after sitting through the blanks do you want to miss it if he does.

Please pick 1 of each of the 2 following options to play:
    (a) Phillips (3-5-2) or
    (b) Iheanacho (3-4-3)

Also which defender would you play to join Alonso & Cedric
    (a) Pieters (Soton home) or
    (b) Holebas (Man City away) or
    (c) Amat (WBA away)

I'm currently on Phillips (as he'll play more minutes than Nacho & he's in better form) & Pieters as he's at home. I'm tempted to go Holebas though due to his set pieces & attacking threat & because Pep doesn't coach his players to tackle haha.

    Thoughts & thanks.

Does anyone actually think Hull and Burnley are not going to follow the script?

Actually scratch that, just looked, last time Hull had a league point away from home was against bur on Sept 10th!

And Burnley have 1 draw and 5 losses on the road.

Think i need some help.. as im really unsure what to do with my team i the next few gameweeks.

    My team now is
    Pickford
    Alonso-vertonghen-cedric
    Hazard-Firmino-Walcott-Gundogan
    Kane-Costa-Origi

    Subs: Jakupovic-Zuniga-Fletcher-Kingsley

I really want to get Sanchez in the squad, but will have to do some transfers to make that happen. I got £1.7 in the bank. Any tips from the community?

  13. Why Firmino is failing
    Parm
    • Fantasy Football Scout Member

I think this Firmino thing is less about positioning and more about the personnel around him and their inability to function without Coutinho's presence. Even if Firmino lines up as the 'false nine' this is mainly for increased pressing purposes as Origi seems to lack the intelligence and energy that Firmino exerts out of possession, a key to Klopp's gameplan.

When it comes to being in possession, Origi will naturally play inside in the half-space as Milner takes a lot of the ball on Liverpool's left during attacks. Also, it's not as if Origi will drop deep to help build-up as the creative juices within aren't exactly flowing and this is where Firmino's role changes regardless of the shape. He'll be dropping in to help fill the creative void(which is really huge) that has been left by Coutinho. Liverpool's deeper players aren't helping in this aspect and have been 'covered up' by Coutinho's form earlier in the season, dropping into the middle third, beating players and making use of his more adventurous passing range.

Liverpool lack the quick transitioning that has previously been prominent in their early play under Klopp, with Lovren/Matip at the back, neither of which are natural ball players as shown during games in which they have a heavy quantity of possession. Henderson plays as a #6 but seems more like the late hollywood-ball Gerrard than a Pirlo-esque figure as he slows down tempo significantly and allows better defensive teams to form their defensive shape quicker after Liverpool regain possession. Wijnaldum is a square peg in a round hole, he doesn't have the skillset required of a Liverpool #8 in Klopp's system like a Ilkay Gundogan did at Dortmund and he's naturally a #10 as we saw from his Newcastle days. The only exception seems to be Lallana who excels in the #10 role but even his presence isn't enough to convince me that Firmino can progress without Coutinho's presence.

A bit ranty but Liverpool ain't good right now imo.

Goals are coming but the dynamic or flow they have with Firmino pressing from the front/creating spaces while Coutinho is building behind him is different.

Probably why Mane has been growing in importance, been crossing more into the box for Origi.

Great post and touches on what I was thinking about Firmino's current struggles. He's been asked to do so much so it seems like he's just drifting through games.

Plus I thought I was the only one wondering what was Wijnaldum's true purpose in this squad because he isn't an orchestrator nor a true box to box midfielder.

Different tasks. Mane's being his typical winger self, with a recognized CF, he's cutting to the byline/crossing into the box more (how he got his two assists)

Firmino has been dropping deep to help build, working the wing and floating into the 9 when Origi drifts wide. It's why he's suffering. No idea what to do lol

Emre Can has that natural #8 profile you mentioned in your post. I hope he s back sooner rather than later.Wijnaldum has more than enough skills but perhaps more effective in more advanced position on the wing. Origi main focus should be to be in the box and the right place at the right time - unlike on Sunday at time. I think it's a bit unfair to say he lacks the intelligence as he's only 21.
Agree on Hendo analysis. Slowing the game down. Doing the obvious not taking any risk.

I agree partly with your points.
As a LIV fan, I agree that we are in some trouble. Origi doesn't have the form nor the energy to fight. He's at best when given only 30min.
Coming to Firmino, he either plays as CF, or on the right flank (taken by Mané). With the ball in his feet, we can clearly see his difficulty to turn in the direction of the game and more so, he's been tracking back too much, leaving Origi alone up front. The transition between the front 3 is not fluid and opposition defenders are getting too much time reading the game! Even Mané had to keep possession for much too long before finding a solution.
I just hope Liverpool don't break apart at this decisive time.

Its tough as Pool doesn't have enough depth to compete with the likes of Che and even Ars...Comparing the benches, Che brought on Fab and Willian..but we only had inexperienced players like Ejaria

Yep, that was exactly Klopp's concern in his post-presser.
Studge don't seem to take the team to heart. Origi doesn't have the form.

Since the beginning, my only concern with the team was if one of the front 3 (Firm-Couts-Mané) is injured.
          Ojo and Ings also out.

Firmino is useless right now I agree -never had him btw.

But what abt Mané? When Origi leaves the number 9 position, he goes into the box

I largely agree and wrote about this point in my blog this week

      http://hindumonkey.blogspot.co.uk/

Pool have drawn the last two games crucially and are coming unstuck without firmino to lead the high press

That said, some of your comments are a touch bizarre and Pool missed Can as well this week remember.

I think we all agree Hull should get smashed Wednesday. If that happens, I;'d expect Jaku to get the start against West Ham. If he doesn't, he's never getting his place back.

Please give up on Jaku. We torture ourselves because there's always someone else who believes Jaku's one hammering away from being reinstated. Phelan is an old-fashioned arrogant and utterly clueless manager. He's signed Marshall and unless Marshall drops a clanger, there's zero chance of Jaku playing.

He doesn't back up well. Trippier needs to earn his wage sooner or later.
GW16 and 19/20 are the games most at risk.

i don't see it tbh....Unless he's hurt or costs them a couple goals by playing horribly, I can't see him losing his place. Now during these coming weeks I can see anyone getting rotated, so I won't count that as a rotation risk because of the crazy schedule.

That was the point. Most owners have factored in him missing a game at least. More chance to be in 19/20. Toby should play all the games.

Yeah, I'll give you this. But you think Mid are likely to be a little less defensive minded than usual at home as opposed to away? They shut up shop at City and Arsenal, but Chelsea did have a few chances to score against them. Pedro hit the bar and Valdes pulled off a worldy I think. Anyway, not selling Firmino-Mane this week and so am hoping for the best.
