With a break in our open to all Fantasy Premier League cup competition during the midweek fixtures, we spend some time this evening to see who has made it through to fifth round, which takes place during Gameweek 17 this coming weekend.

A reminder that, for this latest contest, there are more than £1,000 worth of prizes for UK based entrants courtesy of our partner FanDuel, as well as £350 in Amazon vouchers to the top three managers at the end of the competition.

In addition the highest scoring manager each round wins a £30 FanDuel credit, with community regular Moin earning this prize after his 65 point Gameweek 15 haul. He next faces msq22 in round five.

The next four highest scoring managers in round four win a £10 FanDuel credit. These will be handed out to Pinky Unites, who scored 63, DJDave1979, who scored 61 along with twobitgooner, and BC1, Bashvilla, Hagop, who all hit the 60 point mark.

The highest placed manager left in the competition is 216 ranked Bacuna Matata, who along with Pink Unites, won a £30 FanDuel voucher for the top highest score back in the third round.

The unfortunate manager to face this early frontrunner to win the competition is lowlifegimpe, who is ranked 337,555.

In a closely fought contest, our only remaining Fantasy Football Scout staff representative, TorresMagic, has made it through to round five, after squeezing past Zambhino10 by just a single point.

The moderator has another tough encounter in store when he takes on Smooth Rossi, who at 6,687 in the overall rankings is more than 7,000 places above him.

Other eye catching ties taking place in round five include Funkyav’s clash with Big Phil Soccer Team and Cobberlsnz taking on Bash Villa, who incidentally sent me packing back in the first round.

The fourth round results can be found via this link, while the full fifth round draw can be found here.

Good luck to those still involved and if you would like more information on the schedule and prizes click this link.

Mata is certain to start this match. The only reason he wasn't used in this game was cause of his lack of pace and physical presence. He will play all the games against small teams imo.

  5. Payet vs Eriksen

It is interesting to see the main argument being put forward against Payet. It seems Payet v Eriksen seems prominent at the moment, some advocate Erkisen because he's on a better team, West Ham struggling, and West Ham can't score at home. If you actually look at the data this is not an effective argument against Payet in this debate.

Looking at the numbers, Tottenham have 7 goals more this season yet Payet averages 5.1 to Eriksen 4.8 per game. West Ham at home has scored just 7 goals in their 7 home games, yet Payet averages 5.7 points per game, whereas Erisken averages 5 in Tottenham's 14 goals at home.

There is a collective theme if a team scores more goals, the front 6 usually score more points, which in most cases is true but that totally disregards Payet's impact on West Ham's productiveness. It's similar to how effective Sigurdsson has been over the years even though he's been on a mid table/bottom table team.

The only positive point I attribute to Eriksen in this argument is the 0.8m difference. If you think that is important to your team structure right now it may be worth it. For example if that assists you in a Lovren to Alonso transfer. But from my perspective, from a production stand point, I don't see many arrows pointing to Eriksen long term in this one-on-one match up.

I got Eriksen purely for the next 2 fixtures..then I'll shift to Walcott/Siggy

        9 years, 4 months ago

I'm doing exactly the same. Got Eriksen in for SWA, HUL & BUR then move on to Siggy.

On Payet, I think people are just a bit put off by his price - he's currently too expensive for his output. Needs to add more goals to justify being over £9m.

Valid point..but I think the points output will be similar maybe
And the 0.8 shift in price

            • 9 Years
            9 years, 4 months ago

That's valid, my point isn't saying you shouldn't pick Erisken, it's team performance argument that numerous people are using. As I said if you think 0.8m can be put to better use currently in your team then that's a good argument.

Me too. I'll never go for Eriksen on a long-term basis. Too frustrating. In my side Forbes the next two games then I drop for Walcott because of ARS great fixtures from Gw18. Already have Sanchez so if I change my mind it will be for Lallana

Good post, I've seen a lot of Eriksen v. Payet suggestions on here today but very little meaningful discussion. I think you make some solid points, Payet is very similar to Siggy in terms of his influence on the team and with the Kun money sloshing about, if you have a good team value, then Payet is definitely a strong option.

    4. Netley Lucas
      • 10 Years

Yep, Payet is better. I could have got him but it was right on the money and other issues are looming large.

Siggy much cheaper than payet. Both playing for teams that aren't doing well. Swansea also scoring more than West ham atm.
Although payet is a decent option, theres better/more valuable options at the moment.

Eriksen playing for the better team + extra funds sways it for me.

I agree i'm not making a case that Payet is the best player to pick currently, it's the Payet v Eriksen argument. I agree I like Sigurdsson at that value price hence I picked him up three weeks ago. But my assertion was against your reasoning "Eriksen playing for the better team" is a solid argument. Numbers suggest that is not an effective argument.

Hmm... Swansea 5 vs Palace and 3 vs Sunderland (both at home)
West Ham 2 vs Spurs and 2 vs Liverpool (both away from home)

If you actually analysis the stats and points per game/per minute you'll find Payet is ahead in the majority of the efficiency stats, basically every fantasy relevant stat besides shots. Payet is ahead in all the following categories (average, not total):

            Goal Involvement %
            Penalty Area Touches
            Min Per Chance Created
            Set Pieces Taken
            Bonus Point Potential
            Fantasy Points Per Game

            Eriksen is ahead in:

            Goal Attempts in Box
            Min Per Attempt

So if you want to look at the overall comparison Payet doesn't get smashed in stats, on the contrary he's ahead in most categories.

I don't want an assister I want players who score goals.

If you've gone for Payet good luck may the best man succeed over the next 2 plum fixtures.

I wouldn't want an assister either. I'd want a player to score the most fantasy points, I don't think it matters how they come about.

Good luck if you've decided to go with Eriksen, i'm not of the opinion he's a bad choice, as I mentioned it depends on your situation. I just see most things pointing to Payet mid-longer term.

Ideally I'd pick Payet, because whatever West Ham do, they heavily rely on him. But realistically what I got is...

      a) Eriksen + Anichebe, or b) Antonio + Llorente?

Andy Carroll - someone has to put all those attempted assists Payet has been making into the net.

the upturn in Eriksen's returns coincided with Kane's return to the side.
Give Payet a striker - Carroll or Sakho - and his pts will increase as well.

Anyone got any ideas what to do here? I am thinking about saving as i am second in money league and 1st has Firmino too.

    A) Save and sort out Firmino and Snodgrass with 2 trades and a possible -4 next week
    B) Something else.

    Heaton
    Alonso / McAuley / Cedric
    Hazard / Firmino / Sigurðsson / Snodgrass
    Kane / Costa / Defoe

Pickford / Pieters / De Roon / Friend

Even I am caught in the same dilemma bud... Decided to bench Nacho as of now. With Pep you can't ever be too sure.

Hehe. I'm not going to say yes or no in case someone guesses correctly...

But I agree Slimani could be interesting if his game time was more assured. With Champions League out of the way for a few weeks, maybe the last couple of weeks will be the new pattern for a while...

I know that but Payet's fixtures look amazing and he's on the corners and free kicks as well.
