Welcome to our midweek look at FanDuel’s contests and key picks for the eight-fixture slate that takes place this evening.

The deadline for tonight’s contests is 7.45, with FanDuel’s late-swap feature allowing you to tweak your line-ups right up until the first kick-off.

As always, we put forward our strongest starting XI and analyse the reasoning behind the selection of those assets.

If you’re new to FanDuel, our Gameweek player picks should hopefully offer some guidance in the short-term but, if you fancy delving into some deeper tactics, we recommend you look at strategy guide.

This takes a more in-depth look at the types of players that warrant selection across the various positions, based on the average FanDuel scores they would have picked up if the scoring was applied to the 2015/16 campaign

My Team

Hugo Lloris £7m
Marcos Rojo £6.9m
Phil Jones £7.4m
Michael Keane £7.9m
Sofiane Boufal £7.1m
Chris Brunt £7.7m
Yaya Toure £8.7m
Dimitri Payet £11.2m
Marko Arnautovic £7.7m
Harry Kane £13.9m
Diego Costa £14.5m

Key Picks

Hull City travel down to North London having mustered a woeful 77 shots in the box this season, fewer than any other side in the league. That makes Hugo Lloris (£7m) stand out as the keeper most likely to earn the ten points available for a clean sheet from tonight’s matches.

Encouragingly, Spurs have claimed four shut-outs in seven matches in front of their own fans this term, conceding only four goals at White Hart Lane.

With Crystal Palace flinging crosses into the box at Selhurst Park, we’ve doubled up on a visiting Manchester United rearguard.

With Christian Benteke a big target for the Palace supply, it should see our United pair return plenty of clearances, interceptions and blocks (CBI’s) – a key source of points for defenders in FanDuel.

Both Marcos Rojo (£6.9m) and Phil Jones (£7.4) should retain their places after confident displays against Spurs last time out.

The Argentinian has now made 10 or more clearances in four successive outings. Over the last four Gameweeks, he’s the top defender for CBI’s (with 65) and has averaged 25 FanDuel points. Meanwhile, Jones has also turned in a steady string of performances, producing 20+ points per match and accruing 47 CBI’s over the same spell.

Burnley’s away form indicates that Sean Dyche’s side will concede at the London Stadium, yet as no points are awarded to defenders for clean sheets in FanDuel, Michael Keane (£7.9m) earns a spot for his strong CBI numbers.

Prior to Gameweek 16, only Hull City’s Curtis Davies (209) has registered more of those key defensive actions than the Clarets centre-back (197).

Keane may well be tasked with keeping Andy Carroll silenced, which adds to the appeal with aerial duels and heavy clearance numbers on the cards.

Last week, we pinpointed Southampton’s summer signing Sofiane Boufal (£7.1m) as one to watch.

The Moroccan duly delivered his first league goal for the Saints and recorded a successive score of over 27 points. Six chances created and five fouls drawn (worth 0.5 points in FanDuel) across his previous two matches indicate that he should carry a threat against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.

West Brom’s Chris Brunt (£7.7m) has recorded an average of 26 points over three starts at the Hawthorns, picking up a goal and assist against Watford in the previous outing in front of his own fans. Craig Dawson’s suspension could see Brunt withdrawn into defence, but we don’t see that as a negative.

The Baggies asset has won seven tackles, created five chances and struck three shots on target over that trio of home fixtures. Visitors Swansea City have conceded 12 goals over their last four away trips and could be vulnerable to Brunt’s set-piece delivery.

Manchester City host a Watford side that have leaked nine goals in their previous two away matches.

While it’s worth checking the teamsheet as Pep Guardiola shuffles his squad, Yaya Toure (£8.7m) made a second-half appearance against Leicester City and was utilised in a forward role. The Ivorian scored a brace against Crystal Palace a few weeks back and could also be on penalty duties in Sergio Aguero’s absence.

West Ham are winless in six matches, yet Dimitri Payet (£11.2m) has maintained a strong average of 22.8 FanDuel points this campaign.

A goal and two assists over his last three outings highlights his importance to Slaven Bilic’s under pressure side.

The Frenchman is the top midfielder for both chances created (47) and attempts from set plays (14) this season. That bodes well as Burnley drop by with the worst record for attempts conceded from dead-ball situations (76).

To fit in our other two forwards in our budget, we’ve turned to Stoke City’s Marko Arnautovic as a differential against Southampton. The Austrian has contributed a pair of assists in his last four at the Bet365 Stadium, averaging 18.8 points over those outings.

An in-form Harry Kane (£13.9m) just can’t be ignored against a porous Hull defence that have conceded the most goals in the league (32).

The Spurs striker has notched five goals in his last three at White Hart Lane – that includes back-to-back braces against Swansea City and West Ham, scored from eight shots on target (worth five points apiece).

Similarly, we couldn’t overlook the consistency of Diego Costa (£14.5m) following his winner against West Brom.

The Chelsea man has tallied five goals in his last six outings and is now the top forward in FanDuel, with an impressive 33.9-point average.

Costa’s all round play has also become a factor – 17 chances created over the last six Gameweeks is the most for forwards, helping him to a trio of assists.

Tonight’s Games

The largest pot for tonight’s matches is the £2000 Wednesday War Chest with £400 reserved for first place. There is a £5 entry fee for this contest.

There are also several other contests available, including head-to-heads with £1 buy-ins and 5, 10 or 22 player contests with varying entry fees.

You can register for a free account at FanDuel via this link.

Weird that everyone is so opinionated on whether Hazard will play or not - there is nothing you can do about it now either way, so just chill and see what happens!

I'm very relaxed about it. If he doesn't play I get 6 points off my bench. If he does, he has a good chance of a big score.

Bit ridiculous that Conte expected him to get down to London from Liverpool just to make the team bus but I suppose footballers these days have the resources necessary...

I used to love West Ham. I couldn't miss a game. I loved west Ham since Carlos Tevez joined the club, our greatest escape...I went to 20 odd games in Championship the year we went down, mainly away. I couldn't miss a game on a TV or online.. I bought many shirts, jumpers.. Last season was season of our lives once again BUT I couldn't get into it.. I stopped watching last season. I am not in love anymore and it kind of hurt me in a way..

Actually I'm very similarly positioned on this. Had a season ticket for many years but I feel like its someone else's club at the moment. Its not just a west ham issue, but the plastic over branding and the stadium move have alienated me. Its only fpl that keeps me interested in football on a frequent basis. Sad really. On a different note many expected real ambition, but the signings and the spirit of the team have been poor this season too.

My thing is- I stopped already last season... I was aware of the relocation...Maybe I just never wanted to accepted it, divorce..combo of everything.. I stopped following my football club and I wouldn't believe his day will come..Thanks for sharing!

Have you been along to the London Stadium this season or gone to any away matches?

I think the spirit of the team is still there, hurt by the Europa League exit coupled with early injuries has led to poor form. Not blaming the stadium but its worlds away from Upton Park (2.2 miles?). I agree with the signings though, we tried to get these great looking players (Bacca) rather than some real proven quality - I would rather have seen us go after someone like Redmond as well not Gokhan ****ing Tore.

I've read above you're a West Ham fan as well, last season was a great and historic season for the club, surprised you lost interest then? Decent cup run and some cracking atmosphere's at Upton Park.

I watch most of our games on TV and go to any in the North-West region, going away from home is a lot of fun.

Only time I did lose interest recently was the back end of the season before last, we had a great start but just fell away, the 4-0 loss to West Brom in the fourth round of the FA Cup is what did it for me, natural to go through time's in your life when football isn't so interesting.

YES and exactly. I don't know what happened. I think constant email offers, new this new that..I think they overdone it.., I do love modern football..I just don't like some of the modern footballers and people they employ them and run the club like a business..It's not about the business all the time..

Ibra is a great choice for captain, you'd think the majority of the 543k that have him captain will be in the lower rankings (absoulutely no evidence to back this up). Kane though is somewhat differential so fingers crossed.

Where did you get this data from by the way? Did you scroll through all 4 million teams?

Ibra is not in the Top 5 Top 10k captains (Eriksen is at 2.4% so it's lower than that) compared to 13.1% overall.. So will fly up the tables if he does well.

I'm the opposite, thanks to my poor GW3 to GW10 and an average captaincy points (doubled) of 8, I sit at 1 million. An Ibra captain haul won't be good at all.

Communism doesn't work that way. A narrow elite win at the expense of everyone else. Same as capitalism.

The only difference is that in communism the peasantry are told it's their patriotic duty whereas in capitalism they are told that if they work hard enough they will be given elite privileges.

In pratctise it amounts to more or less the same thing.

Get both? Almost like doubling up on a Liverpool mid, I did Walcott to Sanchez after the West Ham game, feel much happier with actual Arsenal cover, Walcott if you don't have the funds is a good option though.

Walcott will be rested at some point over Xmas.. I've had both most of the season and will keep both. Walcott seems to do well at home whereas Sanchez is a monster away.

I am struggling to get both.

I have 2 FT's so could do Allen, Clyne and Allen to Sanchez, Anichebe and Amat but that leaves me playing Capoue or Anichebe every week. Not ideal!

      Foster, Jakupovic
Alonso, Walker, Clyne, A. Smith, Holebas
      Hazard, Sigurdsson, Walcott, Allen, Capoue

Yeah, he just took a girl up to his hotel room, has photos taken of him, then posted this:

"I apologise to my wife, family and friends and my manager, team-mates and Arsenal fans. I now have to fight for my family and for my club and obtain their forgiveness. Nothing else matters at the moment."

Then he went on to claim he didn't cheat.

Well what's more likely. He's photographed in his underwear in a hotel room with a girl who isn't his wife, apologises to his family and accepts disciplinary action from Arsenal and he didn't cheat. Or, he cheated and then tried to (pretty woefully) backtrack on it all.

You sound like a mug called Shano that used to post. Stop embracing yourself.

                Embracing? Nice

Not I meant embracing. Maybe it was a bit too hard for you to understand what I meant. Just bore off.

Playing about with routes to Costa, Kane, Aguero up top. Means losing Haz for Cout though and playing Can 4th. Will probably stick to my drop Kane but check the lay of the land nearer the time.

Managed minutes put me off and still hasn't started a game. Will allow you to do well as long as Llorente matches him

Carroll means Antonio to RWB- more points for Carroll, when healthy (I know)-he is a beast.. His feet are not from cement too, he isn't all about long balls...

    Still have Pickford Jak
Tough games for Pickford, time to remove Jak, for who? (Max 5.0)
Not like gk have been raking up points so maybe just go with this until sign of Pickford losing his place?

Obviously not familiar with the Toon-related words. Geordies are only for Newcastle?
