So that was 2016.

Many will be glad to see the back of it, mainly for non-football reasons.

For myself and Fantasy Football Scout, it was a big year of transition. On the face of it, everything changed.

We launched the new version of the site back in April and, after several incremental fixes and tweaks, I think we’ve eventually settled in our new surrounds – particularly with the last update a couple of months back.

My first big thanks to you, the community, is for sticking with us during that spell and for your patience and support throughout.

I reserve my next thank you for all those who contribute to the site, and who help and work behind the scenes with the business.

To Paul and our editorial team who continue to put up with my demands; they work tirelessly to deliver articles that go on bringing eyes to our pages. After all these years, Paul remains a calm, faultless and sage-like editorial companion who proves particularly helpful when I need to gang up on Jonty.

Talking of Jonty, my thanks also go to him for stepping up his involvement behind the scenes in the last twelve months, and for managing our moderation team. That crew give up their time and help build and maintain what I believe is one of the most enthusiastic and active football communities on the net.

Next, I want to thank Granville and Andy who take time to talk nonsense with Jonty and myself each week. Two hundred and nine episodes in, the ScoutCast rolls on and some of you are even listening.

Then there are the folk that barely get recognition on our pages.

Ed who worked all hours to help roll out the new design and who continues to react to every issue, wrinkle and demand I throw his way, no matter when I come calling. And Chris, who has driven the business behind Fantasy Football Scout from the get go and still tolerates and keeps my pessimism in check.

Of course, I also want to thank Pip my fiancé and my two children who support and stand by me. All those times I’m writing, commissioning, posting and emailing are often moments stolen from them.

There has been some major changes for me this year. I left my day job to increase our editorial work with the Premier League and dedicate all my working day – and quite frankly, most of my nights – to Fantasy Football.

I’m still adjusting. My family is still adjusting, and Fantasy Football Scout is still adjusting.

Next week, once the frenzy of the festive spell settles, I’ll be asking you to help with that process.

We will be carrying out our first survey since 2010, asking you to help us find out more about our visitors, what you like, what you don’t like and what you want and expect from us.

From then on, I want to share more with you. What we’re planning, what we’re doing, what we’re thinking.

Which brings me to my final big thanks, extended to you.

Without you visiting our pages and contributing your wisdom and wit to our community, I simply would not be here tapping this out.

Over the years, those who read the articles, post comments, listen to the podcast and sign up as members have continued to provide me with the drive and incentive to keep me invested and determined to build on what we have.

I am amazed at how far we’ve come together and humbled by the loyalty and support you have shown myself and the team behind Fantasy Football Scout.

I hope that, with your help, starting with your feedback and ideas in our survey, we can make things even better and go on building this thing.

Many thanks again and Happy New Year to you and your families.

Now on to 2017. Fewer idols lost. More green arrows.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What would you guys do? I have no idea... maybe mane to lallana?? 2FT and 0.1 ITB

    Heaton (Pickford)

Ake - Alonso - Evans (Amat, Barragan)

Sanchez - Hazard - Phillips - Mane (Capoue)

    Defoe - Zlatan - Costa

Mane to Firmino IMO. See Firm as being a better source of pts going forward, than Lallana, personally.

I brought in Lallana for Mane. Klopp may decide to rest Mane against Sunderland to give him some breather before the nations cup. Didn't want to risk that.

Four main mids are Eriksen, Lallana, Sanchez and Hazard.

Phillips would be nice, but no room at the inn currently.

To Aguero or not, that is the question?!?

    Best option...

    A. Keep Whelan as fodder and replace Origi with Benteke
    B. Ditch big Glenn Whelan, get either Ozil/Walcott, Sterling or Eriksen and draft in Barnes for Origi. This requires a hit, but may be worth it.

    If b, which one?

Sanchez haz lallana siggy de roon
        Ibra costa barnes

        1ft 0.8 itb

Only other really pressing issue is wanting to get walcott back in, but that may well be a gw or twos time anyhow I guess. Shame that siggy and swansea aren't peforming, seemed great value but just blanking now. 🙁

Would you bring in Phillips for Capoue instead of Sigurdsson to then allow Carroll be benched vs Man United?

Then i can decide whether to go 3-4-3 or 3--5-2

If i stick to 3-4-3 that would mean an extra transfer to get another bench fodder in but would also save some money

    Does that even make sense?

    1. Straitpizza187
      • 14 Years

Such a benching headache every week though.

I was looking at the same and kept Capoue.

But long term i would bring in a striker to bench and go 3-5-2 or stay 3-4-3 and get a bench fodder in for Sigurdsson instead. Cheaper than Capoue is now

        1. Dave Boozle

if it helps, since I've gone 352 I've gone up quickly in the rankings. A balanced midfield with 4 stars at least gives consistent returns.

          • 14 Years

I think 3-5-2 could be the way to go but I'm a little stubborn with 3-4-3.

Only get Phillips for Capoue if you are committing to 3-5-2. He's too expensive for a 5th mid in a 3-4-3.

      1. andy85wsm
        • Has Moderation Rights
        • 15 Years
        9 years, 3 months ago

If i dont go 3-5-2 then id just get bench fodder in for Siggy and make Phillips 4th mid.

That would mean an extra transfer though.

        I think i like 3-5-2 going forward

        1. Point-one short
          • 9 Years
          9 years, 3 months ago

There's not much choice in the midrange for forwards. Defoe, benteke, not much else. There are loads of midfielders in that price-bracket doing better.

    4. BERGKOP
      • 14 Years

Yes. I think Phillips is certainly worth it and a better option than Carroll for a 3-5-2.

thoughts on Rose to Baines and Hojbjerg to Phillips for -4

    would give me

    Peters-McAuley-Baines (cedric-Amat)
    Siggy-Hazard-Sanchez-Lallana-Phillips
    Ibra-Costa- (Carroll)

Then siggy for walcott when fit

Or just dump Siggy for phillips and worry about rest later.

Is now Philips a reason to shift from 3-4-3 to 3-5-2?

Cannot find any better max 7.0-attackers?

Not just him. Plenty firing at that range. While upfront, Rondon is pick of the bunch and he costs 1M+ extra than Phillips and is not even as explosive as Phillips.

So who is better than Philips in that range?
