According to a multitude of reports emerging this evening, Diego Costa has been dropped from Chelsea’s matchday squad for their trip to Leicester City on Saturday evening.

While we normally shy away from breaking news based on rumour and gossip, when those stories surround a major Fantasy asset and build such momentum, they prove difficult to ignore.

Right now, there is little or no hope of having the reports confirmed prior to Saturday’s 11.30am deadline.

It is said that Chelsea are not willing to comment and, certainly, Antonio Conte did not allude to any such issues in his press conference, referring instead to “one or two situations” to assess prior to naming his line-up.

Arguably, Conte could have taken the opportunity to raise doubts had a fitness issue been a factor. Certainly, the reports suggest that Costa has not trained this week and yet the Chelsea boss did not mention this or raise any concerns on Costa’s availability.

Instead, it seems that these reports stem from a dispute between the player and club, emphasising that Costa has been “dropped” and citing a number of issues as the cause.

The Mail first broke the story at 6.07pm this evening, reporting a dispute with Chelsea’s fitness coaches.

Describe “a blazing row with Antonio Conte over his fitness”, the Mail went on to claim that the player felt he was struggling with a lower back problem, an opinion which the fitness coaches and Conte himself have apparently dismissed.

However, further reports have also highlighted another angle of possible dispute, namely recent interest from China, reportedly amounting to a staggering offer of £30 million-a-year for the player.

The upshot of tonight’s breaking stories offers Fantasy managers little but uncertainty.

Given the scale of the reporting, we should perhaps expect Costa’s absence but, until we hear from the club and Conte, we cannot be sure on the nature or severity of the issue.

However, with Chelsea facing Leicester in the evening kick-off, it is inevitable that Conte will be forced to comment should Costa be omitted from the squad.

His reaction and response to that questioning will be fascinating, with Costa’s 44.5% ownership hanging on each and every word.

In an already remarkable season, both in the Premier League and from a Fantasy perspective, this could prove to be the biggest twist yet.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      What's your team value?
      Nice team.
Lallana to cout may not be essential this week.

    WC. Thoughts?

    Foster/Grant
    Baines/Pieters/Friend/Kingsley/Evans
    Sanchez/Hazard/Eriksen/Snodgrass/Clayton
    Ibra/Lukaku/Defoe

    0.0 in the bank.

      Yep, sound.
Personally I'd pick a keeper and save the cash on the other.

Thank you. I did consider going with Heaton and downgrading Grant. But sometimes a bit of choice in that area can be nice.

Tantalisingly, I can get Heaton/Robinson for the same price.

Jakupovic is likely to regain his place - sure to gain some value despite the horrendous upcoming fixtures.

    a) Philips (v Tott)
    b) Allen (v Sund)
    c) Baines (v MCity)

    Sorry for the repost.

Current team already with a -8:

    Foster, Pickford*
    Alonso, Walker, McAuley*, Ake*, Amat*
    Sanchez, Eriksen, Phillips, Stanislas, Lallana*
    Kun, Defoe, Costa*

Is it worth just cutting losses and wildcarding to:

    Foster, Jak*
    Alonso, Walker, Brunt*, Schlupp*, Yoshida*
    Sanchez, Eriksen, Phillips Stanislas, Coutinho*
    Kun, Defoe, Giroud*

    ??

Very difficult. There are issues with that squad, certainly, but given that you've already taken a hit, I'd find playing my WC in the same week hard to swallow.

But playing wildcard would absorb hits already taken, no?

I'm not sure how that works this year. But if that is the case, I would very seriously consider it, in your position.

I don't think that playing wildcard will absorb the hits....might as well play 3-5-2 and take a call next week after the dust settles.

It does absorb the hits mate. I don't know what to advise you. Wouldn't bench coutinho so you could do 3-5-2 and re assess. Can't see you climbing the rankings this week, so you gotta decide if you can swallow that to wc for a double Gameweek.

Hello chaps what do we think GTG?
My only question is Brunt or Ake?

    Heaton,
    Baines, Gibson, Brunt
    Hazard, Sanchez, Alli, Phillips
    Giroud, Kane, Ibrahimovic

    Jaku, Ake, De Roon, Kingsley

The clash of Spurs & Brom is annoying but not much I can do. Although those players should prosper over the next few weeks.

It is annoying, I'm facing having to play Foster, McAuley AND Phillips against Spurs now (Ake and Costa!!) but the best you can expect from Ake is a cameo.

Yep, max rise/fall is 0.1 per day; 0.3 in a game week.

The guys on page 1 close to 100 are very likely to rise overnight. Likewise with the lads on the final page, but falling.
