Cursed with a reputation of failing to deliver to form and fixture, while some have tried to dispel the myth, Romelu Lukaku chose today to slay it once and for all.

The stage was dressed and set for the Belgian.

With the fixture list driving his recruitment, there was a degree of forced faith in Lukaku.

Two blanks on the road had created an air of caution, but Everton’s home form was strong enough to offer real hope.

Bournemouth, as today’s visitors, were offering the biggest reason for optimism. Incredibly, Eddie Howe’s side arrived at Goodison Park having shipped 20 goals in their last ten outings, conceding three in six of those matches.

The script was meticulously scribed and, for once, Lukaku read and stuck to it perfectly.

It took him just 30 seconds to expose the Cherries frailties, ominously curling home a confident opener to tease the destruction that was to follow.

Bournemouth’s second half rally merely drew the sting from Everton, with Lukaku ending the match in riotous form.

Acquired by over 75,000 prior to today’s deadline, Lukaku boasted an ownership of 1.1 million FPL managers.

However, only 22% of those owners chose to back him with the captaincy, perhaps distracted by the lure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Harry Kane, having previously been stung by the Everton striker.

However, announcing himself this season with a hat-trick on Wearside, Lukaku chose Bournemouth as his next major victims and bullied them with a similar display of pace, power and finishing.

His 21-points ranks second only to Alexis Sanchez’ fabled London Stadium haul – Lukaku’s return today is the top individual score by any FPL forward.

With the fixtures remaining kind and with Gameweeks 26 and 28 booked in, his ownership and price will likely rocket.

However, while we can lavish praise his way this evening, we should not forget the frustration he can cause.

Stalling badly from Gameweek 11, Lukaku appeared stuck in a rut and unable to drag Everton from their Autumnal malaise.

But something clicked thereafter – perhaps the new arrivals on Merseyside, perhaps Ronald Koeman’s new formation – but the smile returned, and the energy and hunger came with it.

Incredibly, he now leads the Golden Boot race. Involved in 51% of Everton’s goals, boasting an almost identical points per match tally as both Diego Costa and Ibrahimovic and second only to Jermain Defoe for points per million value, the case for Lukaku is compelling.

Was there ever any doubts? Of course, but at least for tonight, we will conveniently forget the past.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Just contemplating my next moves.

Funny how this game changes when you start looking at mini leagues instead of the big game...or in my case very small (3) mini league. My brother doesn't have Ibra so why am I bothering keeping him ?...he does have Carroll though with no blanks. I'm tempted to ignore the big game again and play safe Ibra > Carroll after next week.

Ibra->Costa for the Swansea game is my plan, can get 7 out GW28 already and that's enough for me

I'm playing overall because my rationale is that ML rank will take care of itself. I can understand making "blocking" transfers in the dying stages of leading but in general I think it's such a negative way to play!

Well it is unless you can see the white's of their eyes when a decent pick with no blanks is blocked.

In general tactical play only works in very small three or four man leagues anyway. Anymore than that isn't manageable or worthwhile.

Haha that's true. I'm fortunate that my closest ML rival intentionally tries to avoid bringing in players I own. It makes for some really interesting comparisons.

I just need to say that Lukaku captaincy took me to 19th in Sky and I still have 16 trannies left.

I reckon that is pretty good at this stage.

I saw his team name is the same as that. I should have more transfers left than most in the top grouping (apart from Buffrey that guy is great) Still there is an outside chance and with a top prize of £25k it is keeping things interesting.

Cannot believe my H2H in Sportsdeck was another Lukaku captainer

Original plan was to save FT going into next week as On paper I have some decent matchups. However another dismal week, Kun's playing time doubts and arsenal, man u's troubling form is making me want to knee jerk. Do I sit tight or make a move? Any suggestions appreciated.

So what have we learned from Lukaku tonight?

How many people have already transferred him in to avoid his price rise?

Have we not learned that the money doesn't matter in this game. I had my team lined up with Ibra and Kane because I have a good TV and could afford it. It my TV was lower, maybe I'd have had Lukaku, I really don't know.

Saw a comment earlier that said something like that; 'my ML rival has a low TV so he had Defoe and Lukaku in his front line.' Clearly this players lower TV benifitted him massively this week.

Realistically, he's not gonna get 4 goals against Middlesbrough, so why rush to get him in just because of his value?

My guess is budgets maybe tight and fixes might have to be done fast?

Yes but hasn't today been the example that budgets don't matter. Hull, Sunderland, Everton, none of these teams have premium players yet more of their players delivered big as opposed to the premium options at Spurs, Pool, Chelsea and Arsenal

well, if i had better TV I could afford Siggy over Philips and Coleman over Funes Mori. It works both ways

Yes but players with a lower TV would get Siggy instead of Erik/Alli/Fimino/Coutinho etc. This is the other way

longer term move (no blanks), still good fixtures, price rises and most of my rivals have him....

It's small margins, obviously a higher TV allows better players in the long run but it doesn't guarantee you'll outscore someone who makes the right value picks. Sometimes catching price movement is the better decision and sometimes not, in my opinion.

Surely Snodgrass is a no brainer now at that price?

Not on pens like he was at Hull, so less goals probably. But more assist potential.

Ibra falling in price and Gabriel rising again? Without even waiting for tomorrow's games? How the hell are these people playing the FPL?

      No...don't think I'd ever captain a defender...ever a wingback.
