Cursed with a reputation of failing to deliver to form and fixture, while some have tried to dispel the myth, Romelu Lukaku chose today to slay it once and for all.

The stage was dressed and set for the Belgian.

With the fixture list driving his recruitment, there was a degree of forced faith in Lukaku.

Two blanks on the road had created an air of caution, but Everton’s home form was strong enough to offer real hope.

Bournemouth, as today’s visitors, were offering the biggest reason for optimism. Incredibly, Eddie Howe’s side arrived at Goodison Park having shipped 20 goals in their last ten outings, conceding three in six of those matches.

The script was meticulously scribed and, for once, Lukaku read and stuck to it perfectly.

It took him just 30 seconds to expose the Cherries frailties, ominously curling home a confident opener to tease the destruction that was to follow.

Bournemouth’s second half rally merely drew the sting from Everton, with Lukaku ending the match in riotous form.

Acquired by over 75,000 prior to today’s deadline, Lukaku boasted an ownership of 1.1 million FPL managers.

However, only 22% of those owners chose to back him with the captaincy, perhaps distracted by the lure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Harry Kane, having previously been stung by the Everton striker.

However, announcing himself this season with a hat-trick on Wearside, Lukaku chose Bournemouth as his next major victims and bullied them with a similar display of pace, power and finishing.

His 21-points ranks second only to Alexis Sanchez’ fabled London Stadium haul – Lukaku’s return today is the top individual score by any FPL forward.

With the fixtures remaining kind and with Gameweeks 26 and 28 booked in, his ownership and price will likely rocket.

However, while we can lavish praise his way this evening, we should not forget the frustration he can cause.

Stalling badly from Gameweek 11, Lukaku appeared stuck in a rut and unable to drag Everton from their Autumnal malaise.

But something clicked thereafter – perhaps the new arrivals on Merseyside, perhaps Ronald Koeman’s new formation – but the smile returned, and the energy and hunger came with it.

Incredibly, he now leads the Golden Boot race. Involved in 51% of Everton’s goals, boasting an almost identical points per match tally as both Diego Costa and Ibrahimovic and second only to Jermain Defoe for points per million value, the case for Lukaku is compelling.

Was there ever any doubts? Of course, but at least for tonight, we will conveniently forget the past.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Benching a 6.5m def is something i could never do. Maybe it's good for points in the long run, but if i have someone that expensive, they start no matter who they play, for precisely that reason!

GW28 could be a massive headache for my team. I only have 5 players from teams not blanking currently and 2 of those might not play.

Have to look to bring in more blank proof players but would like Costa or Hazard (back) for GW26 - not sure I have the luxury...

    Hits? 🙂

GW26 shouldnt be a problem and luckily we should know more before they're played.

Difficulty is also who you own.

The 3 United and Sanchez have great fixtures next GW so removing them now isn't an option unless Jones ruled out again I guess.

Crouch has Middlesbrough at home and Mirallas has the 26/28 fixtures just whether he plays.

Maybe save and have a mini -8 WC in GW26?

if it stays at 3 games I've got 7 players but that includes Stanislas & Holgate.
Need to shift Cedric & Jones as double blanks so I'm looking at a Hull defender at least.
A lot will depend on price movements if people dump Sanchez for example I might well replace him with Barkley if I'm not going to end up losing value on Sanchez.
Seriously considering only going in with only 9 or 10 starters.

Today's game is massive for those who punted on Jesus. If he blanks, i'm not sure it's worth getting him at all for a while. Bou and Sunderland, fair enough. But 2 blanks either side and then Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. The time to own him looks to be from GW32 onwards. Sexy fixtures till the end of the season + 2 DGW's likely

Same. I have GRU & Firmino to ship for Costa & Siggy before the spotlight goes on Zlatan. Bournemouth home looks like a logical goodbye fixture, he can go after that.

Utd are so bad up front it makes sense long term to have less £ in their attack anyway i think. They have a very low goals scored stat vs. the top 5 teams. Mourinho needs to sort that.

I have more value tied up in Sanchez, so easier to keep him i think. Plus if i sell one, it's for a Chelsea asset, and Costa looks just about more consistent than Haz. United's fixtures are good after the blanks, but Arsenal's aren't too bad either

Anyone else not getting too worked up about the blank in GW28?

Last week showed that there will be ultra low scoring GW's where no one does well... There's no point in taking a load of hits & FT's to set your team up for one GW which may be very low scoring anyway.

Much more important to avoid uneccessary hits & keep playing slow & steady imo.

With European fixtures on 14/15/16 Feb then it will be interesting for the FA Cup fixtures that week. I can see Arsenal, Leicester, Spurs, Utd and City all putting out weak teams which would be interesting given the quality of opposition they are playing. Arsenal will make it so Arsenal vs Leicester will blank. But for the rest GW28 blanks not guaranteed yet.

I won't be going to town on 28 given the likely 3 fixtures.

Fortunately WBA and Everton have good games going into 28 and Swansea, West Ham and Hull have decent games surrounding it. I wouldn't be touching Bournemouth assets although there's merit to holding them if you already own.

Lukaku. He's the kind of player who you need to persist with long term anyway. Big Andy will get injured at some point so you may have problems trying to find cash when that happens imo

Guys like Defoe & Phillips are enabling more xfer budget & itnneeds to be spent somewhere so could be a good plan. Baines/Coleman/Alonso/Walker/Brunt would be a nice playable back 5 that gets attacking returns & CS's.

I'm not complaining as I had a very good day yesterday - but does anyone think the assist system still needs a bit of adjustment?

Costa got the assist for Hazards 'individual' goal yesterday. Yet Lukaku didn't get one for McCarthy's goals because he 'assisted himself' with two shots. Seems a bit odd to me as in real life I would say Lukaku's was more of an assist than Costa's. Thoughts?

Think it's hard to get into what then is an assist and what isn't. Simply, the last time the ball was touched before the scorer received it was by who? Should the person who gets fouled for a freekick be awarded an assist? Penalties different because you have created a goal scoring chance. and on and on.

Personally I think the most consistent thing to do is to award an assist for every goal scored. That would remove a lot of the disputes. Sure there would be some lucky assists in there but at least the game would then appear consistent.

No sorry I think that's exactly when an assist shouldn't be awarded. I was mainly talking about open play goals.

No they should use somthing like live scores ( or a more reputable one). Don't the sun do somthing similar. I think they like the control they have though

If a goal comes from the FK then surely the logic applied to awarding an assist for penalties has to be applied here too?

Watching the goals there's no doubt Lukaku "assisted" McCarthy more than Costa did Hazard but FPL assist rules have been applied correctly here IMO.

The Telegraph do a Key Contribution instead of assist and maybe something along those lines could be applied in future years. Even that will bring debate and issues I'm sure.

I agree that the current rules were applied yesterday. My query was whether anyone thinks (like me) that perhaps they need adjusting. For me these two goals yesterday were a perfect example of how the current assist rules don't quite reflect real life assists. I want FPL to reflect real life as much as possible.

Lots of discussion about what transfers to make with the blanks in mind. Best tactic (assuming you can field 11 in GW25) is surely to save and wait and see what happens in the cup? We'll know a lot more about GW28 (only replays will still be unknowns) and we'll then have 2FTs for GW26 or 27.

Using 1FT on Lallana > Siggy, that leaves me 0ITB.

      With other would you do:

      A) Benteke > Caroll
      B) Benteke > Rondon (have Phillips and Brunt)
      C) Benteke > Defoe
      D) Save

Leaning towards A, fixtures are very nice, goalscoring form and no blanks but wondering why he only got 55 minutes yesterday. It's getting crowded in that team and Ayew to come back soon? Even Sakho?

I did the Sig transfer from Lallana yesterday. If I could I'd go with the Defoe option because Carroll will get injured in the next few weeks and wouldnt want the "i knew this was going to happen why did I do it" feeling.
