After picking out the teams facing the kindest schedules over the next four-to-six Gameweeks yesterday, our focus now turns to those who may struggle over that same period.

The threat of blanks provides a real concern for Manchester City players, while a severe lack of form and a treacherous fixture list means that Liverpool’s appeal is unlikely to stage a recovery following wretched form.

Manchester City

(bou, (bla), sun, STO, LIV, ars)

City are already without a fixture in Gameweek 26 and, if they see off Huddersfield Town in the fifth round of the FA Cup as expected, they’ll also have another blank in Gameweek 28, with their Etihad clash against Stoke City postponed and rescheduled.

That would leave Pep Guardiola’s side with just one home match in seven Gameweeks, and that is against Liverpool.

So while those that have recently invested in the in-form Gabriel Jesus could profit in the upcoming matches against Bournemouth and Sunderland, particularly given that the Cherries have conceded more goals (13) than any other team over the last four Gameweeks, he does come packaged with a major caveat.

The clashes against Liverpool and Arsenal aren’t particularly favourable either, so should you also own a number of Arsenal and Manchester United players, who are also without a fixture in Gameweek 26, and perhaps Gameweek 28, investing in City players will present unwanted headaches further down the line.

City defenders haven’t been strong Fantasy options throughout the season, and with the blanks, along with the continued threat of rotation around Champions League ties, that looks set to remain the case over the upcoming period.

Liverpool

(TOT, lei, ARS, BUR, mci, EVE)

The Reds face a very testing run over the next six Gameweeks, coming up against Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, City and Everton, while their easiest fixture, at home to Burnley in Gameweek 28, will be moved if the Clarets progress past Lincoln City in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Given that Jurgen Klopp’s side are also in abject form, there currently looks little appeal in owning any Liverpool player.

Only the Leicester City and Burnley match-ups look kind from an attacking perspective in the next six, and given that the latter fixture may be postponed, the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana could all continue to struggle for attacking points.

Liverpool have conceded seven goals in their last four matches, and look very unlikely to keep clean sheets over the next month or so.

Everton, Arsenal, City and Spurs all rank among the top six for goals scored over the last four Gameweeks, so it’s only the Leicester match-up that looks to offer a decent possibility for a shut-out.

Those that have the likes of Nathaniel Clyne or Dejan Lovren in their five-man backlines will surely be making alternative plans, then.

Stoke City

(CPL, tot, MID, mci, CHE, lei)

Once Saturday’s home clash against Crystal Palace is out of the way, the outlook for the Potters is pretty bleak all the way up to Gameweek 32.

As already mentioned, the City fixture could present a blank in Gameweek 28, while the clashes against Spurs and Chelsea aren’t likely to yield many points for Stoke in defence or attack.

Given his budget price tag, Peter Crouch’s 6% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) may be happy to hold, with the fixtures against Middlesbrough and Leicester City offering some respite.

But the forward was replaced by Saido Berahino before the hour mark last weekend, with the January signing likely to be pushing for a start over the next few matches.

Again, those who own a Stoke defender may be happy to hold if the rest of your backline is in good shape when Mark Hughes’ men face their difficult fixtures, given that defensive returns appear possible against Palace, ‘Boro and Leicester.

But it’s asking a lot of Erik Pieters over the coming period, and there’s certainly no appeal for FPL bosses to invest in Potters defenders at this juncture.

Also be wary of…

Crystal Palace
Sam Allardyce’s men need to find some form quickly, as their schedule turns particularly tricky very soon.

That Gameweek 28 clash against Spurs could, of course, be a blank if Spurs beat Fulham in the fifth round of the FA Cup, but Palace also face unfavourable matches against Chelsea and Arsenal.

The fixtures in the short-term (sto, MID, wba) are more reasonable, although taking their current form into account, those ties are unlikely to be enough for the majority of Fantasy managers to consider Palace players.

Those who own the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke may be happy to hold for the next three Gameweeks, then, but last weekend’s 4-0 defeat to Sunderland has dented confidence in the Eagles’ backline, despite the attacking potential of Patrick van Aanholt, Scott Dann and Jeffrey Schlupp.

Bournemouth
While the Cherries do have a guaranteed fixture in Gameweek 28, at home to West Ham, and also host Swansea in Gameweek 29, the unfavourable nature of their remaining matches (MCI, wba, mun, sot) over the next six places huge importance on those two Vitality fixtures.

The run between Gameweeks 30 and 33 (sot, liv, CHE, tot) looks particularly gruelling, so we ideally need to shed their assets by that point.

The value offered by Josh King, particularly if he is retained in the lone striker role, could see him emerge as a decent option, but Junior Stanislas’ 3.4% ownership in FPL will hope he earns a recall before those two home fixtures after being dropped against Everton.

From a defensive standpoint, it’s hard to see Cherries defenders picking up any clean sheet points in the next three. They’ll need to improve markedly to muster shut-outs against West Ham and Swansea but, given their recent form, the Cherries backline offers little appeal, even with the guaranteed Gameweek 28 fixture.

Play Walker (Liv) or Phillips (WH)?

Phillips - better chance of attacking returns and less likely to lose points than Walker IMO

Look at Walker's last 5 or 6 returns. You must have more affordable players to bench than a premium defender

Possibly. Rest of the team is:

        Grant
        Alonso - Baines - Funes-Mori
        San(c)hez - Siggy - Antonio - Phillips
        Ibra - Kane - Defoe

        (Foster Walker De Roon Amat)

With Everton playing Boro and Antonio at home to West Brom, I can't see who else I'd sacrifice to play Walker...

"It is all good now. I have just had a bit of bruising underneath the foot where my insole cracked and that was pushing up and it was just a bit painful," Jones told the Manchester Evening News.

"It was just one of those things. You can't legislate for that. It could happen to anyone. It was just unfortunate it cracked. But I should be okay for Watford," the English defender added.

Yep and Maybe Carroll to Defoe with the spare change. Just feel that DeRoon is a bench fodder, leave him be. No point have Stanislas as 5th mid when he's not even assured starts. You can get away with keeping DeRoon but you won't want to keep Stan if he doesn't start. If you get a chance maybe do DeRoon to Carroll (Swansea) but for the sake of maybe 2 points, I wouldn't be too worried with it. Stan to Siggy, save the .7m

Goodluck. For the record, I have Stanislas. He'll be warming my bench until I swap for Snoddy prior to gw28 and ship Phillips to a bench fodder prior to 29. That's the current plan anywho

I know, lots of captaincy picks this week. I think Giroud will be back and Sanchez won't play 90 with Champs League. Hulls new found resilience also being a factor. So Siggy (c) over Sanchez (c). It's a big risk but what the heck, if it pays off, it'll make my season. If it fails, I'm still just hovering in no man's land..

Got Hazard in for his 19pt haul
      Sanchez for his 23pt Haul
      Alonso for his 13pt Haul
Kane for his 13pt haul (who I brought in for Aguerro the week Aguerro got the red card)
      Eriksen for his 19pt haul
And for the life of me, I knew I'd regret not bringing in Lukaku last week but I didn't and I hate myself. So have a good feeling about this and so far this season, my instant gains from transfers has been staggeringly high

No plans for any further article from the FCB committee, though if you want to do your own on the winning team, then go for it. I'll ask Ziro to update the spreadsheet for completeness.

Hey Jarvish. Still feel rather guilty for punting Aguero last week .
If I had him was a cert as Cpt though and guess my comments had no bearing on yr final decision

Caught the back end of the conversation a few of you were having on mental health in football recently. Lots of talk about Sterling going through Jermaine Pennant-syndrome and all that!

Read this today - http://bdai.ly/aqCy - Hayden who was Arsenal & plays for Newcastle now has been talking mental health and how he's actually motivated by business. Bit of good news and credit where due perhaps..

No real sympathy for the mental health of footballers Tbh.
Everyday people face far more stress and indeed hardship . Their tribulations are never highlighted in the media though

I have Lukaku, Siggy, Sanchez and Defoe.

Is it worth -4 punt to bring in Jesus for Ibra and make him captain?

Anyone on here thinking of wildcarding GW29/30?
By then we'll know which teams will have 1 DGW & if utd/arsenal/city will have 2 DGW
Also evertons & west broms fixture turn by then so would get rid of them in one go

Only a good option if you can field XI in GW28. And I can't without multiple hits - unless Fulham help out.

I only have 1 Spurs so I'll be happy if Spurs do blank, but a part of me wants them to have a GW28 fixture to punish those that have done Alli/Erikson to Siggy this week 🙂

It was Spurs getting knocked out of the cup that led to a lot of GW33 angst last year - be fun if it happens again.

Last year I wildcarded in GW33 before the DGW in 34 and it worked out very well so I will likely do the same this year

GW34 is likely to only have about 6 teams with a DGW this year though - 8 teams max probably.

Last year 34 had 10 teams with extra fixtures I think? I played BB in that week because it was a bigger DGW than 37 so maybe I'll do the opposite this time (BB in 37, TC in 34)

Could be the way to go if you can get enough out in GW28 and have enough DGWers in GW34.

To be honest I don't fancy any West Brom assets against Everton in GW28 too. I might even get rid of Phillips for Snodgrass till then. Everton have a pretty good fixtures in GW29 though Hull (H).
And if Lukaku keeps scoring there's no point removing him.

I wouldn't Wildcard straight after the GW28 save it for the doubles.

Yes WBA need to go after 28. Had Brunt and McAuley for a while now. They're home form combined the last few weeks has been insane. Think Brunt could be a keeper though, especially when/if he gets back oop

It is worth looking at if you can manage 10/11 players for gw28. We should know all the DGW information by then ( baring any fa cup replays).

          Hi All,
After reading comments I will take a -4 for swapping Courthino for Siggy.
The rest of my team looks like this:
          Grant
          Baines Azpili Brunt
          Philips Snod Hazard Siggy
          Defoe Costa Lukaku

          Bench Heaton Stanis and Holgate
Any thoughts on formation? As for Captain I am torn between Siggy, Defoe and Lukaku.

          Cheers

I have thought about it but whether I do or don't, I'm not putting myself in a position that I'll be forced to wildcard. Fielding 9 players in 28, 6 of which I already have. The likes of Jaku, Brunt, Coleman, Snoddy, Siggy and Lukaku will be just fine long after the blanks are done and dusted.
