Romelu Lukaku recovers from a calf problem in time for Everton’s Goodison Park clash with Sunderland. Andy Carroll remains a major doubt as West Ham travel to Watford, while Middlesbrough have a string of injury concerns in defence ahead of a trip to Crystal Palace.

Romelu Lukaku is available for Everton’s home match with Sunderland after recovering from a calf complaint. Ronald Koeman has also confirmed that Kevin Mirallas and James McCarthy are back in contention, with all three returning to training earlier in the week.

David Moyes has revealed that Jordan Pickford is back in training for Sunderland’s Goodison trip, though went on to say “we’ll have to see if he’s ready”. Steven Pienaar is doubtful due to a calf problem, while Jan Kirchhoff remains sidelined, despite stepping up his recovery with a return to training earlier in the week.

Middlesbrough have concerns over a trio of defenders for their trip to Crystal Palace. Antonio Karanka has confirmed that Antonio Barragan remains on the sidelines, while both George Friend and Calum Chambers have failed to train and are set to be assessed.

Andy Carroll has yet to train ahead of West Ham’s match with Watford and is a big doubt for the Vicarage Road showdown. Aaron Cresswell, Arthur Masuaku and Andrew Ayew all back in contention.

Craig Cathcart, Sebastian Prodl and Valon Behrami are all doubtful for the Hornets. Juan Zuniga has recovered from illness, though Costel Pantilimon, Nordin Amrabat and Christian Kabasele remain sidelined.

Sean Dyche is mulling over his Burnley midfield options, with both Steven Defour and Johann Berg Gudmundsson sidelined through injury for the trip to Hull City, while Jeff Hendrick serves the last of a three-match suspension.

Simon Francis is expected to be ruled out of Bournemouth’s visit to the Hawthorns, while Eddie Howe is set to make a late decision on the fitness of Jack Wilshere.

Tony Pulis was typically vague this morning ahead of West Brom’s clash with the Cherries – the Baggies boss revealed his squad have “one or two niggles” but failed to elaborate.

Ki Sung-yeung, Nathan Dyer and Jefferson Montero are all ruled out through injury as Swansea City make their way to league leaders Chelsea.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News page accordingly to keep you informed.

    I’ve got 1FT 2.1m ITB

    Pickford | Heaton*
    Baines* | PVA | Pieters |Brunt* | Amat(x)
    Eriksen | Mane* | Pogba | Stanislas(?)* | Capoue
    Zlatan | Kane | Lukaku*

Currently got 5 players for GW28 plus Stan if he gets a game.
Really want Alonso, I know Alonso has no game in 28 but he’d be in for the season.

    A) Jones > Maguire
    B) Sanchez > Manè

    1 FT 0.3 ITB.

    Foster/Pickford
    Alonso, Funes Mori, Brunt, (Amat)
    Siggy, Alli, Phillips, Roon
    Lukaku, Costa
    Subs: Ibra, Sanchez, Jones

    Hi guys,

Just done Sanchez > Mane, is it worth also doing Defoe > Costa with my second FT? Would then mean having to take a -4 to get Aguero in for a potential City DGW.

    thoughts much appreciated, thanks 🙂

GW 26 Captaincy Conundrum : The Stats

Player : PPG RF HF/AF OPP AGC GC6 A/H GSO
    1. Lukaku 5.92, 7.12, 12.33 SUN 1.8, 1.83, 2.0 1.66
    2. Costa 6.04, 4.0, 6.67 SWA 2.16, 1.67, 1.67 1.57
    3. Kane 5.95, 5.5, 8.3 STK 1.44, 0.67, 2.0 1.66
    4. Hazard 6.12, 5.8, 6.3 SWA 2.16, 1.67, 1.67 2.2
    5. Alli 5.6, 5.8, 8.0 STK 1.44, 0.67, 2.0 2.1
    6. Mane 6.0, 5.0, 6.67 lei 1.72, 2.0, 2.0 2.5

PPG = Points Per Game ( Total points scored / Total games played)
RF = Recent Form ( Avg of Points scored in the last six games )
HF/AF = Home Form / Away Form ( Avg of Points scored in the recent 3 home (Or) away fixtures )
OPP = Opposition for the current GW ( Caps denote home game )
AGC = Average Goals Conceded by opposition
( Total goals conceded / Total games played )
GC6 = Avg Goals conceded in the recent 6 games
A/H = Avg goals conceded in the recent 3 home (Or) away fixtures
GSO = Goal scoring odds for the GW

Mane is the only player in the above list with an away fixture against LEI. So, his AF takes the average of points he scored in his recent 3 away games.

Conclusion: The likes of Kane and Alli have played 3 games since their last PL outing against Liverpool. Recovery and fatigue are some key issues to be addressed. Lukaku and Mane, however had ample rest as their teams weren't involved in any Cup competitions. Factor in their leaky oppositions and it almost seems like a failproof logic. Chelsea have had just one game meanwhile and they have a very good home fixture too.

So, my top 3 captaincy picks for this GW are
    1. Lukaku
    2. Mane & ( Keep an eye regarding injury reports )
    3. Hazard ( Spot kicks give him an edge over Costa )

Apologies man, i spent my time at work trying to put the numbers down in a readable format. It got messed up big time. I know there's a lot of abbreviations as well, just wanted to include as much relative stats as i could inorder to pick a proper captain.

Might be worth considering that Costa and Kak's stats v SWA and SUN are miles better than Haz's v SWA.

Off the top of my head it's something like

      Kak 7 goals in 9
      Costa 7 goals in 4
      Haz 1 goal in 9

Current team after getting Mane in is:-

    Heaton

    Siggy Mane Alii Eriksen Philips
    Costa Lukaku ???

Removed Ibra /Fletcher and got Mane.

      Has to be Rondon.

He has Bournemouth followed by Crl Pal at home whom Sunderland beat 4 - 0 before getting cleaned themselves by Southampton.

Bournmounth and Crystal Palace appear to be the weakest oppoition by a mile at the minute.

West Brom have only lost one of there last 7. I know Rondon has not been scoring but West Brom are winning and he seems very happy.

Rondon could be huge for the next 2.

If you really wanna gamble hand him the armband. Could do worse!

    What is more favourable:

    A.

    GW28 Get 8 players out

    B.
    GW27 Phillips
    GW28 Get 9 players out

    Current team:

    Jakupovic
    Baines McAuley Pieters Chambers
    Erikson Alli Philips De Roon
    Lukaku (C) Carroll

    Heaton Ibrahimovic* Sanchez* Daniels

    0.5 ITB, 2FT

    My plan:
GW26: Sanchez and Ibra > Mane and Costa (11 players)
    GW27: Costa to Aguero (C) (11 Players)
GW28: Alli and Chambers > Sigurdson and Holgate for - 4 (10 Players)

Is this a good plan? Anyone have any other suggestions?

Start Carroll in case he plays an annihilates or start Siggy because he could get a cheeky goal at Stamford Bridge?

Probably a bit above average without hits I'd say.

I'd say 9.5 is about average but quality is more important rather than filling with the likes of Phillips

    Best WC fillers?

    A) King & Crouch
    B) Phillips & Barnes

I was initially set on A) mainly due to King playing OOP and Crouch having a DGW, but King has 2 tricky fixtures up first (wba, mun) and Crouch is getting on a bit (and with Berahino lurking) so I'm a little concerned about his minutes over the DGW. Also, B) means I'll have Phillips for his 2 plum fixtures up next (BOU, CPL) and a spare transfer in GW28 for Phillips -> King when the fixtures swing if needed. With that in mind the match up looks like being:

    A) King (wba), Crouch (mcy/MID)
    B) Phillips (BOU), Phillips (CRY) & Barnes (liv)

It's tricky. I like the idea of King myself but when you look at the fixtures as you have set them out, (B) looks a bit better.

You couldn't stretch to Chadli instead of Phillips?

Afraid not - this is where I'm current at:

        Jaku
        Baines, Coleman, Brunt, Maguire
        Mane, Firmino, Siggy, xxx
        Costa, Lukaku

        Grant, Stones, Sterling, xxx
        Bank 0.1m

Sorry, that's not clear. Costa is a 1 week placeholder for Kun, so once I do Costa -> Kun next week I'd essentially have 10.3m for the 2 remaining spots:

          Philips & Barnes = 10.3m
          King & Crouch = 10.2m

          Ah, OK.

Personally I'd drop Stones for someone like Chambers. That would give a bit more budget for the last 2 slots. Markovic might also be worth considering for the midfield slot. He's a punt but so would any alternative be.

Hmmmm, that feels a bit too punty for me.

What don't you like about Phillips?

Another option is T Carroll & A Carroll

            1. Ruth_NZ

It's not that I don't like Phillips, he is in my team. But Pulis seems to think he's a "confidence player" and that his confidence is down a bit at the moment. Whereas Chadli is a definite goal threat who also has penalties in his locker and is fully fit again now. Give me a FT and I'd swap Phillips for Chadli for sure.

I do reckon T Carroll is way better than his 4.2m price tag. And for a wildcarder he'd have the benefit of not leaving you with an awkward structure. Big Andy could be a good choice if fit and there would be an easy switch to Deeney around GW29/30.

Cheers. Yeah Chadli would be a great pick if his minutes didn't always get cut short. He's been fit for a while now and still always gets hooked around the hour mark.

Snoddy? Not the best immediate fixtures though so similar story to King. If I knew A Carroll would play this week then I'd be tempted, but for now I'm favouring Phillips/Barnes (he's on pens too I believe)

Oh yeah, Snodgrass definitely. I like West Ham's fixtures a lot, 5 of the next 7 are very promising and Snoddy is under-priced. I usually don't think about him because I have Antonio. But in your situation, for sure.

Snodgrass and Barnes would be a solid pair as long as you are happy to settle on a 3-5-2 structure for the next while.
