That man Zlatan Ibrahimovic grabs the glory as Manchester United snatch the season’s first silverware from a luckless Southampton.

Manchester United 3 Southampton 2

Goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic started and finished an exhilarating EFL Cup Final that, on any other day, could well have been won by the Saints.

The Swede made it six strikes from his last four Europa League and domestic cup matches – he’s managed just one in four league fixtures – as United saw off a strong Southampton comeback from 2-0 down just before half-time.

In the light of two blanks in three Gameweeks, Ibrahimovic has been sold by more than 4% of his ownership base. The 35.6% who have remained loyal will hope to reap the rewards when United entertain a struggling Bournemouth side this Saturday.

Conversely, another striker who scored twice at Wembley, Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini, has seen his ownership figures bloom despite the Saints also missing both Gameweeks 26 and 28.

Snapped up by over 131,000 last week, he’s already been acquired by 52,000+ since Saturday’s deadline passed – at least twice the number of transfers in than any other player.

A cup final brace made it five goals from just three starts since a late January move from Napoli and he has transformed a Southampton side who had been struggling without an out-and-out striker since Charlie Austin was injured in early December.

While Gabbiadini clearly has the form, his side’s fixtures are another story. They will need to quickly shake off their EFL Cup disappointment when they travel to an improving Watford at the weekend before a blank and then a trip to Spurs round out a patchy short-term schedule.

Two double Gameweeks to come offers the promise to come, but they will involve tough home matches with Arsenal and United.

Southampton were very unlucky not to open the scoring at Wembley when Gabbiadini’s finish was ruled out because Ryan Bertrand was controversially adjudged to have been offside.

An Ibrahimovic free-kick, following a foul on Ander Herrera, and a Jesse Lingard finish from a Marcos Rojo assist merely served to enhance Saints’ feelings of injustice before Gabbiadini netted from Cedric Soares’ pass just before the break.

The Italian leveled three minutes after the re-start, Oriol Romeu hit the post and David de Gea was forced into a couple of fine saves as United hung on before Ibrahimovic headed home a Herrera cross in the 87th minute to win the match.

That United rode their luck is not in doubt. How Fantasy managers utilise the team’s assets looks equally clear-cut.

The Gameweek 28 blank surely demands patience before a string of attractive fixtures, involving trips to Middlesbrough and Sunderland and home matches with West Brom and Everton, lead up to a Gameweek 33 clash with Chelsea.

Manchester United XI: de Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Smalling, Rojo, Herrera, Pogba, Mata (Carrick 45), Lingard (Rashford 77), Martial (Fellaini 90), Ibrahimovic.
Subs not used: Romero, Blind, Young, Rooney.

Southampton XI: Forster, Soares, Stephens, Yoshida, Bertrand, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Davis (Rodriguez 90), Redmond, Tadic (Boufal 77), Gabbiadini (Long 83).
Subs not used: Hassen, McQueen, Caceres, Hojbjerg.

Two days after this article (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/01/29/bournemouth-winger-junior-stanislas-praises-manager-eddie-howes/), Stanislas hasn't played a single minute for Bournemouth. The takeaway being... don't praise your manager?!

HSV-keeper Adler got -13 points on Bundesliga fantasy this week when they lost 8-0 to Bayern. 😆 He is also on total points of -2 for the season. 🙂 Different scoring system, but still pretty funny. http://imgur.com/a/y0LvQ

Whilst the Hendo news has little impact on FPL (aside from maybe making them a bit weaker generally), believe it or not a lot of people seem to own him on Sky FF game and he's the 8th highest scoring player in the whole game. Might mess a few up in that, especially with the daily captaincy as well.

    These hits worth it?

    GW27 - Lukaku to Aguero -4
    GW28 - Aguero to Lukaku - 4

Wouldn't exactly rule out Lukaku scoring against Spurs. I will also have Sterling.

      Presume Aguero is your captain?

If so then presume that Aguero scores a couple and also gets 3 bonus over the two games which i think has to be our minimum and realistic expectation = 27 - 8 =19 points.

      Yep worth it imho

        It depends on
        1) if Lukaku scores
        2) if your original/different captain choice scores well.

Personally I'm considering it, because I fear City and I fear Aguero. I dont think this Aguero is the Aguero of previous seasons, but Stoke were abject against Spurs and Sunderland are very poor at the back. He could come away with a low tally that makes the whole transfer in and out tactic redundant..but he is capable of hitting 3 or 4 across the two GWS and punishing all those without.

How do i sort out this mess:

    Baines - Coleman - Alonso - Knightly - Brunt

    Mane - Sanislas - Philips - Alli - Clayton

    Kane - Defoe - Ibra

Im thinking (if man city get there DGW):

    Alli -> Sterling
    Kane -> Aguero
    Stanislas -> Siggy
    Brunt -> 4.4

Can only do the first 3 transfers if the 4th is done as well due to funds. Worth it for a 12 point hit?

Have a WC but dont really want to use it for this.

Is there any old thread how not to play this game?
    What i learned this season:
Dont buy 2-3 games wonders(Holgate,Amat etc)buy only sure starters.
Dont buy or double up on teams that dont create enough chances(Phillips+Rondon 12 GWs).
Dont act smart wait player to hit form, got Aguero GW 22-23 and (C) got 2 points.

    Any suggestions?

Had Amat from the start, transfered him out this gw. But I think it is sustainable to have in a squad of 15, as his low price enables you to get a better 11.

      Plan... Look OK?

      GW27

      Eriksen+Lukaku > Kun+Snoddy (-4)

      Jaku
      Alonso - Walker - Coleman - Pieters(x2)
      Snoddy - Mane - Siggy
      Kane - Kun(C)(x2) - Zlatan
      (Heaton - Phillips - Evans - Capoue)

      GW28

      Kun > Lukaku (1FT)

      Jaku
      Coleman - Evans
      Snoddy - Mane - Siggy - Phillips
      Lukaku(C)
      (Heaton - Alonso - Walker - Pieters - Kane - Zlatan - Capoue)

      Then Mane > Sanchez probably.

I'm thinking Alli. Although Eriksen looks central to everything he isn't taking many shots in the box. In 3421 Alli plays almost as a second striker.

Yeah this is my issue -

Eriksen was better yesterday (the Walker miss, as an owner of both, was infuriating), but Alli is a fantastic goal scorer. Eriksen will assist more but Alli will score more.

            Thanks all.

Alli will bank 0.2 more if I sell so I might use that as a reason to justify the difficult decision.

Exactly there's no right answer. I think both will do well but I have more value tied up in Alli so Erik probably has to make way

      Afternoon everyone. 🙂

Those with Costa and Ibra, who are planning to get Kun, what is your plan?
Really tough to get rid of Ibra when he's got Bournemouth at home but that extra million comes in handy.

Costa, although would switch lukaku out/in if I had the transfers and gw28 setup.

May still do it for an extra -4 & hope for break even. Costa also has a double coming (don't know yet about wc plan).
Disclaimer though: I don't like owning Lukaku.

Zlatan also said he was dead on his feet after the game yday needed to get his power back! Jose also giving him extra time off this week! Rooney might start given his great attitude while being warmed up then sat down! Im still keeping zlatan but it is a worry

Is it worth doing Lukaku, Alli, PVA > Aguero, Sterling, Robertson for a -8?

Will then captain Aguero for the DGW and switch back to Lukaku GW28...

His risk for (Hopefully) high reward...

Got exact cash for these moves.

              Thoughts?

Early thoughts about Antonio -> Sterling (-4) for GW27. I'd most probably get rid of Sterling for free for GW28 and field 9 players.

What order would you put the following in for this week?
              A/ Lukaku (tot)
              B/ Coleman (tot)
              C/ Mawson (BUR)

              B. Lukaku+Eriksen > Kun+Snoddy

              C. Other?

              Current lot:

              Jaku - Heaton
              Alonso - Walker - Coleman - Pieters - Evans
              Eriksen - Mane - Siggy - Phillips - Capoue

              Grant (Jaku)
Alonso, Walker, Brunt, (Funes Mori, Amat)
Hazard, Mane, Eriksen, Phillips (De Roon)
              Lukaku, Defoe, Kane

              1 FT 3.7itb

              Sound moves?
              Kane > Aguero (assuming DGW)
Phillips > Siggy/ Sterling (-4, If Phillips is out?)

Is there a reason to wait on Defoe and Sanchez to Kun and Sterling (-4)? City will be a good option for the next two whether they get a DGW or not. I only have 0.2m left when doing that transfer and Defoe is dropping tonight.

Well if they lose to Huddersfield they won't be a good option in the next two at all as they will only be playing 1 game

Sounds good to go imo, just the risk of injury before hand.

I have defoe but am a bit reluctant to sell given his run of games after gw28 and the probable need for a 3rd cheap striker with sanchez back in the picture.

                no.

Alli is a much better source of points, and one extra game will not change that.
