Arsenal make their predictable exit, in unexpectedly catastrophic style, as confidence saps from the Gunners’ legs and doubts surrounding the merits of re-investing in Alexis Sanchez builds. Here’s the notes from Tuesday’s Champions League tie…

Arsenal 1 Bayern Munich 5 (2-10 on aggregate)

Arsenal’s annual Round of 16 exit from the Champions League was an exceptionally chastening affair this time around, outplayed and prodigiously outscored by a Bayern Munich side in no mood for charity.

Theo Walcott’s goal gave the home fans faint hope of at least a tilt at second leg redemption and, in truth, the Gunners were the better side for much of the first half.

But the match, as in the first leg, hinged on Laurent Koscielny.

In Munich, the Frenchman’s injury precipitated an epic collapse. At The Emirates, the centre-half was sent off, after initially being shown only a yellow, for fouling Lewandowski when the Pole was through on goal after the break.

The striker duly converted from the spot, and another capitulation followed.

With Arsene Wenger’s hold on power looking increasingly tenuous, and star man Alexis Sanchez clearly not the happiest at the moment, there seems little to tempt Fantasy managers towards the Arsenal patch of North London at present.

Three of the side’s four most popular players are at the back – Peter Cech, Koscielny and Hector Bellerin. Conceding 10 goals to Bayern and keeping just one clean sheet in five league matches doesn’t suggest much joy ahead for those managers with interest in the Arsenal rearguard.

But the Gunners do enjoy a favourable run from Gameweek 29.

Aside from the visit of Manchester City, they will face West Brom, Palace and Middlesbrough away and entertain West Ham and Sunderland – all fixtures that have the potential for better defensive returns than Arsenal have managed in recent weeks.

But Sanchez is the big concern. Still owned by 27.4%, his place at the spearhead of the attack is suddenly in doubt.

Danny Welbeck, who was named in the starting line-up against Bayern, fell ill in the warm-up and Olivier Giroud took his place.

It remains unclear whether Welbeck or Sanchez would have operated on the left – or if the pair might have interchanged – but the Chilean ended up out wide when Giroud came into the side.

The Frenchman also started up front in the 3-1 loss at Liverpool, with Sanchez perhaps no longer nailed-on for the advanced role that has brought most of his 17 league goals this season.

Certainly, in a double Gameweek scenario, we have to think that Giroud would get an opportunity in the striker role in one of the two matches.

A Gameweek 28 blank at least gives Fantasy managers some time to consider their Arsenal options and, more importantly, their confidence and frame of mind.

The key consideration will be how we bid to exploit the two double Gameweeks still to come from Arsene Wenger’s side before the end of what has, otherwise, become another predictably uninspiring season.

Arsenal XI: Ospina, Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xhaka, Ramsey (Coquelin 72), Walcott, Sanchez (Perez 73), Giroud (Ozil 72).
Subs not used: Cech, Gabriel, Gibbs.

    Foster, Jak
    Alonso, Coleman, Baines, Jones, Amat
    Mane, Coutinho, Siggy, *********, T.Carroll
    Lukaku, ********, Gabbiadini

    20.0 ITB

    From GW29 onwards ?

    A) Pedro and Kane
    B) Alli and Costa
    C) Phillips (or King) and Kane (with money ITB for Pool mid to Haz or Sanchez)

Once GW28/29 is out of the way, is Gabbiadini a season keeper? Considering that he has some good fixtures (GW30 & 31 seem like an ideal time to bring him in for Lukaku) and doubles to come he would also enable us to save money for the rest of our teams and benches for the use of wildcards and chips

Yes he is, for the reason you have stated. Just be aware that Kaku has good fixtures in GW32 and GW33. Gabbiadini, Kaku and either Kane or Costa is worth considering.

    Thoughts lads:

    Maguire brunt coleman
    Siggy mane phillips
    Gray

Grant, pickford, yoshida, alonso, sterling, sane, ibra, kun

    a) ibra > lukaku, sane >coutinho -4 (transfer one of lukaku/kun for kane gw29)

    B) ibra > lukaku, sane > T Carroll -4 (allows me to get kane for Gray gw29)

    Currently looking like this...

    Heaton
    Brunt Baines (Walker, Holebas, Amat)
    Siggy Mane Phillips Carroll (Sterling)
    Lukaku (Ibra, Aguero)

    Leaning towards a -8 of:

    Holebas > Coleman
    Sterling > Coutinho/Firmino (Probably Cout)
Ibra/Aguero > Carroll (Already 3 swans so can't do Llorente and wouldn't be keen on a Swans offensive triple up either)

    Thoughts??

    Heaton(Randolph)
    Brunt-McAuley
    Mané-Siggy-Philipps-T.Davies
    Lukaku-Carroll

A- bring Mawson in for Prödl and have 10 players.

    B- swap Phillips with J.King.

    C- swap Carroll with Llorente.

I have exact same predicament and am going for Carroll. Don't want Swans triple attack, Bournemouth have conceded the most headers in the league and he is a good differential. Only short term for me most likely as I'll be shipping him for Gabbi in GW31 most likely so if he gets injured its no big deal really.

In theory it's a 2pt hit if you're replacing a non-playing player with one who plays + any other points they get is a bonus.

Seems like a good week to move players you want to get out, within reason of course.

Alright. This week and Kuns inevitable failure aside I have to start concentrating on next week.

For me it's all about damage limitation. Now my team with a -4 is as follows:

    Foster
    Brunt Coleman Amat
    Mane Siggy Phillips
    Llorente Lukaku

    Grant Sterling Kun Alonso Chambers

Amat and Phillips might not start, even probable that they won't. So I'll probably have only 7 playing players. But the thing is they are pretty much the likely point scorers aside from maybe Baines and Pool mids. Hence what do you guys think, take more hits or settle with this?? Opinions appreciated.

    Siggy Phillips T.Carroll

Heaton Jones Hazard Amat Kun Kane Sterling

Nope. I'll likely do keep Sane over Sterling when I decide to stop holding unto both of them

One is becoming a Liverpool mid for me this week (probably Coutinho). Been holding off ahead of tonight's game, although I'm not sure what outcome (either playing/being rested) would point to which decision

It makes no difference at all waiting for this game that's why I made my transfers soon as gameweek started catch the prise risses

A goal and assist 3 bonus will put aguero on 19x3 = 57. Will be happy with that and he coyld get that easily.

Amat to Olsson or Robertson (the former likely to drop before the weekend, both the other two likely to rise)
      Sterling to Coutinho/Firmino

I can already taste the sheer joy round here when Amat gets fielded on 90+2 and bags a 1 pointer. It'll make all the difference...
