Leicester come good to make the quarter-finals of the Champions League on a special, if at times frantic, night at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City 2 Sevilla 0 (3-2 on aggregate)

Sevilla became Craig Shakespeare’s third consecutive victim since taking over from Claudio Ranieri, but the new manager, just like his predecessor, had Kasper Schmeichel to thank for keeping the Spaniards at bay.

Wes Morgan nudged home a Riyad Mahrez dead-ball delivery to level the tie on aggregate before the break of a pulsating tie and Marc Albrighton made it two when Sevilla failed to clear Mahrez’ cross just a minute after the visitors had hit the bar at the other end.

Waves of Sevilla pressure followed – even Samir Nasri’s sending-off for two bookable offences failed to stem the flow – and they had a golden chance to take the match into extra-time when they were awarded a debatable penalty, only for Schmeichel to save his second spot-kick of the tie.

Shakespeare named an unchanged side for the third match in a row and, thanks to his keeper’s heroics, the Foxes finally kept a clean sheet for the first time since a Gameweek 20 stalemate away at Middlesbrough.

That should put the likes of Morgan, Schmeichel and Christian Fuchs back on our radars with the Foxes blessed with a favourable run of short-term fixtures, plus the promise of a double Gameweek to come.

A Gameweek 29 trip to West Ham will provide a test, though home matches with Stoke and Sunderland in the subsequent two could certainly see their assets from back to front enjoy investment as differentials.

Last season’s key attacking pair – Mahrez and Vardy – will surely be considered during this spell.

Found in 8.0% and 8.1% of squads respectively, that ownership is surely made up of largely inactive teams. However, the next three fixtures offer an excellent platform for the pair to blossom further.

Vardy, in particular, could be a tempting prospect for those of us trying to re-jig forward lines missing the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic for two matches and the injured Harry Kane for, potentially, a lot longer.

The possible fallout from Romelu Lukaku’s rejection of a new Everton contract could be another factor to consider when looking at Vardy, who has two goals, an assist and 18 points from Shakespeare’s pair of league matches in charge.

It’s a sign of the growing faith in the Foxes’ striker that almost 14,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have now taken the plunge since last weekend’s deadline, as more look to the King Power club to maintain that recent momentum and steer themselves to safety over the run-in.

In terms of dates for the quarter-finals, the first leg will take place on April 11-12 (between a Gameweek 32 trip to Everton on April 9 and Gameweek 33 visit to Palace on April 15) and the second leg on April 18-19, though Leicester are currently without a Gameweek 34 fixture due to FA Cup postponements.

Leicester City XI: Schmeichel, Simpson, Huth, Morgan, Fuchs, Albrighton, Ndidi, Drinkwater, Mahrez (Amartey 90), Okazaki (Slimani 64), Vardy.
Subs not used: Zieler, Chilwell, King, Gray, Ulloa.

    Alli Mane Firmino Siggy Antonio
    Lukaku Llorente Caroll

Who would you bench? I also have 1 FT and 3.3 ITB - would you recommend any change? (defence is sorted for this week)

Thanks - I'm thinking Llorente. Have a feeling W.Ham will run over Lei (especially after latter's CL tie)

Well only to take away the benching headache. I personally hate having 8 bonafide options each week. Nearly always have 2/3 point bench fodder as 5th mid just to spare myself these decisions.

What are peoples thoughts on Hazard? Can bring him or Alli in this week - everyone raving about Alli, understandably, but with Kane missing there's surely a slight worry that will affect all of Spurs' potential.

Hazard looks electric currently and seems to off the radar now. Thoughts / fears?

always a good option. For me depends on personal preference. Maybe Sanchez in for many because of DGW means Haz will be overlooked somewhat, Pedro is also fantastic for Chelsea attack.

Another way of looking at it: which pair will give better returns? Pedro + Alli / Hazard + Son?

    2. True Blue
      • 11 Years

I would recommend Son - better value over Alli if the mid term solution is to have Sanchez + Hazard + Liv mid

Yep, he's a very good differential. May bring him in for the good run of games from 31 though, when we know more about DGWs, Kane and international fatigue etc

I had planned a DDG/Pickford combo but was advised to free up the funds as GKs don't score many points in general. I think this was sound advice.
Depend on your funds I guess, but after thinking on it Pickford can be played for the rest of the season and also has a DGW so I'm going Pickford/Jaku and I'm very happy with my team now:
          Pickford/Jaku
          Valencia/Walker/Alonso/Mawson/Yoshida
          Sanchez/Hazard/Alli/Siggy/King
          Lukaku/Deeney/Gabbi

News, pressers and an update to the fixture calendar so you don't have to take hits to fix the hits you already took because you couldn't wait.

Of course I will wait until friday evening (neither is going up/down in price soon). I'm more curious of what people though of the transfers. 🙂

            Thanks! 😀

Count has produced hardly any returns since coming back from injury, but is he worth just one more week ?

That's what I'm wondering myself. He has a good track record against ManC, but he doesn't look good atm. 🙁

He is killing me too but I wait in hope - evened Captained him over Lukaku last week. Not prepared to take a hit for him though until after the international break

On my wildcard, Deeney or Defoe as my third striker?

Toss a coin mate. Deeney is in slightly better form perhaps.

I'm in the same predicament. Really unsure. Defoe has been unlucky lately with the posts but Deeney stats are crying out.

Deeney is on a better run but Defoe is a better striker. I think he will start scoring again soon - luck has been against him.

    Re-Post: Jaku/Randolph
    Baines/Coleman/Brunt/Chambers/Mawson
    Siggy/Sanchez/Mane/Eriksen/King
    Carroll/Crouch/Lukaku

Anything you'd do for a hit? (Using my FT on Coutinho to Sanchez)

That front three is a bit light, maybe upgrade Crouch or Carroll? Are you going 3-5-2?

Yeah I thought I'd leave it this week as Carroll has a decent fixture but I was thinking of getting Gabbiadini in

Have the exact mids as you but Llorente up top with Lukaku, so wondering the same! If anything I'd want Chelsea cover (Hazard is on red hot form) but taking any out for a -4 doesn't seem worth it.

Yeah same I think I'm gonna get Pedro in for King when Bournemouths fixtures get bad

Pick 2 for my WC team

    Gabbi Deeney and Defoe

Currently on Gabbi and Deeney. Benching Gabbi for King this week.

Vardy punt or Costa (got Haz)?

Vardy if rolling the dice, Costa if consolidating - I've gone Costa to protect cash ML lead.

    Who to bring in?

    C. Alli
    D. Sanchez

    Thanks

      Keep Mane.
Sanchez if you captain him. If not, I think Alli.

      A

Second part is much tougher....I'm v.tempted to just get Sanchez back now and hope he can continue his run of scoring points.

People are making very persuasive reasoning behind getting Alli too though.

      I'm more tempted by Sanchez.
