Jamie Vardy’s second-half goal is too little, too late as a spirited Leicester City finally exit the Champions League.

Leicester City 1 Atletico Madrid 1 (Aggregate 1-2)

And then there was one…the Premier League’s European aspirations now rest with Manchester United after Leicester could only draw the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final with a savvy, if at times rocky, Atletico Madrid.

Jamie Vardy’s second-half equaliser provided a measure of hope as the Foxes, easily subdued in the first half, went back to basics after the break and caused a measure of discomfort to the visitors’ backline.

The difference between the sides, in the end, was quality – Atletico controlled large parts of the tie and took the occasional chances that came their way. Leicester were second-best until all that was left was to give it a go. That they did, with impetus gained by a switch to 3-5-2 after half-time, and the Spaniards bent but never broke under the less than subtle onslaught.

Foxes boss Craig Shakespeare made one change from the first leg. Robert Huth was suspended, so the fit-again Wes Morgan, back after missing five league matches with a back issue, partnered Yohan Benalouane in the centre of the defence.

The Leicester captain’s return should have been welcome news for the 10.9% of Fantasy Premier League managers with him in their squads – only Vardy (14.8%) is owned by more.

But Morgan never looked match-fit and succumbed to a hamstring problem in the second half that threatens to put him straight back on the injured list again.

As for Vardy, he remains the talisman of a team reborn under Shakespeare but still lacking consistent returns from Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian has managed two goals and an assist in the seven league matches since Claudio Ranieri was sacked. Vardy has scored six times and provided three assists over the same period.

That form makes the England striker almost undroppable, although the Foxes’ run-in is a decidedly mixed bag.

They face West Brom, Watford and Bournemouth and have a double Gameweek 37. But that involves Man City away and the visit of a rampant Spurs, while their next match is a trip to an Arsenal side scrapping to keep themselves in the hunt for the Champions League places.

The worry is that, as their place in the Premier League looks safe enough, there will be precious little for the defending champions to play for now their European campaign is finally over.

Shakespeare will know that a strong finish would do wonders for his own ambitions to lead the club on a more permanent basis. Whether that is motivation enough for the players remains to be seen.

In the meantime, Vardy remains the only Leicester asset worthy of consideration but, given the current clamour for the likes of Harry Kane, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Christian Benteke, he has become a casualty of heavy sales.

Vardy lost over 86,000 owners over his past two Gameweeks and has suffered a deficit of 17,000 so far ahead of the weekend deadline.

Team: Schmeichel; Simpson, Benalouane (Chilwell 45), Morgan (Amartey 84) , Fuchs; Mahrez, Ndidi, Drinkwater, Albrighton; Okazaki (Ulloa 45), Vardy.
Subs not used: Zieler, Musa, King, Amartey, Gray.

I was out of it for some time. I'm confused as to when to make use of my WC and AOA and BB (TC already used).

My team as of now with 1 FT and and 0.5 ITB is

    Jaku Grant
    Alonso Mawson Nyom Holgate Chambers
    Sane Coutinho Pedro Alli Fletcher
    Aguero Zlatan Lukaku

What should I do this week? Maybe ship Zlatan for Kane?
But really don't know what I should with regards to WC, what is the thinking behind the timing etc.?

Zlatan has a DGW... I'd be looking at Sane to Zaha or a defender to Gibson.

Of course not. Check the season ticker and their last fixtures. Home against MID, WAT SUN, and away against WBA. Alonso nailed if the title race is open, and I can't see Spurs stumbeling just yet.

Before reading a few recent posts, not only was I intending on (C) Negredo, but even considering (TC)!

    Rationale being:
    - GW35 WC (instead of GW36) is likely to hurt you in GW37
    - Min 4 points with EV of 7 points for Negredo is actually pretty solid vs. SGW

    Am I mad?

    REPOST
For the current keepers combo, Mignolet and Pickford

    Which is better?

A- Mignolet > DDG (-4), already have Valencia
    B- Mignolet > Valdes (-4) if fit
C- Play Mignolet to palace at home
    D- Something else?

    1. WVA
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 3 months ago

A as DDG is a season keeper but if you still have WC then B if fit although most will say no hits for keepers.

      1. _Gunner
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 3 months ago

Well I think Palace will score past LIV, I still have my WC

DDG has a DGW followed by SWA at home which is really tempting.

I am inclined to think Negredo just for gw34, Benteke if you also need him for gw35

    Valencia, Davies, Robertson, Stephens, Wilson
    Sanchez, Alli, Sigurdsson, King, Carroll
    Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

    1FT, 0.2 in bank

Only got Zaha as a DGW player for GW34 atm.

Who do you think will be the single most profitable player in GW34?

Thoughts on Siggy to Pedro for an FT, seems a weird one on paper, but with renewed legs in the title race and with a DGW coming, is Pedro a decent differential?

    Wk35
    Valencia&Ibra OUT > Yoshida&Aguero IN

    Zaha&Henessey OUT > Redmond/JWP & Bravo IN
    Wk37

      A few...
      1. Barragan may be dropped. Chambers is ready, Ayala played well so Chambers likely to be RB from now on
      2. Bravo apart from he is useless, he may also not play as Caballero should return
      3. changing King for DGW-er only because he plays 2 games isn't wise- King plays Burnley home, do you really think Dier Xaka or Kante score more?

        Cheers

ref point 1 . I thought Barragan OK on Monday theroy was he would keep the same team

ref point 2. Man City have a good run in so either bravo or caballero will do

ref point 3. im using my all out attack for the DGW so want a decent return hence changing it to a DGW-er
