As the only two teams set to play twice in Gameweek 36, Arsenal and Southampton players are expected to dominate this week’s Captain Poll.

Yet both sides have struggled to convince in recent matches.

Alexis Sanchez – our go-to Gunners option with the armband and the top-scoring player in Fantasy Premier League – has a single goal in six ahead of clashes with Manchester United at home and a trip to St Mary’s in midweek.

Indeed, with two goals and a pair of assists over that same period, Mesut Ozil has emerged as the unlikely form route into Arsene Wenger’s attack.

For the Saints, Claude Puel’s decision to haul off Manolo Gabbiadini before the hour-mark at home to Hull City on Saturday has hardly helped matters.

The most transferred-in player for the previous Gameweek, the Italian – who has a single assist in his last four – heads to Anfield at the weekend prior to entertaining Arsenal.

Having played 90 minutes in each of the last five, Dusan Tadic has seemed immune to his manager’s rotation at a time when both James Ward-Prowse and Nathan Redmond have endured bench-warming duties.

Yet the Serbian’s missed spot-kick against the Tigers – extending a poor run of form to one assist in his last seven – won’t have many reaching for the armband.

Ironically, Tadic is the poster boy for those considering single Gameweek players this time around – his 16 point-haul away to Watford in Gameweek 27 outshone Man City and Stoke’s main men, despite both the latter sides offering two matches apiece.

Nonetheless, although there are certain players with just one fixture that could prevail, opting only for the most reliable, in-form performers will reduce the degree of risk for those who choose to overlook Arsenal and Southampton.

With that in mind, Spurs trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen remain very much in the mix for the Friday night trip to West Ham.

Kane has three double-digit hauls in his last five starts and bagged 13 points against the Hammers back in Gameweek 12.

Alli – with a goal or assist in eight of his last nine – and Eriksen (returns in six of his previous seven) offer alternatives as Mauricio Pochettino’s side face a defence that has been breached at least twice on eight occasions at home this season.

Man City’s home encounter with Crystal Palace also heightens the appeal of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

We’ve yet to ascertain the extent of the Argentine’s groin problem but, having found the net in six of his last seven, Aguero has upped his output over the last couple of months. A 12-point haul alongside Jesus away to Middlesbrough – a first double-figure score since Gameweek 12 – highlights his form.

Yet Jesus – the most transferred-in player in the Gameweek – could also benefit against the Eagles’ injury-hit backline. A leveller at the Riverside means that the Brazilian has netted four times in as many starts and his stock will surely be on the rise if Aguero misses out.

Nine goals in his last ten league outings ensures that Josh King is also among the main single-Gameweek contenders as Bournemouth welcome Stoke to the Vitality.

The Cherries have scored ten times in their last four at home and host a Potters outfit that have failed to score in six successive road trips, with Mark Hughes’ men perhaps another side already on the beach.

Jamie Vardy has been Leicester’s main source of FPL points since Craig Shakespeare took the helm.

The Foxes frontman has delivered a goal or assist in eight of his last nine league outings and has scored in four consecutive matches at the King Power Stadium ahead of a home encounter with Watford.

Still floundering in the drop zone, Swansea Ciry need a result at home to Everton, with Gylfi Sigurdsson vital to their survival bid.

Yesterday’s goal at United – his first since Gameweek 24 – bodes well for the Icelandic international, who scored against the Toffees earlier in the season.

With a single goal in his last eight road trips, it’s fair to say that Romelu Lukaku will struggle to garner attention. Yet it’s worth noting that the Swans boast the worst home defensive record in the top flight, having shipped 33 goals in front of their own supporters.

After taking just one point in their last two home matches against Bournemouth and Palace, Liverpool’s bid for a Champions League spot is in danger of dissolving.

Results yesterday, however, should offer fresh impetus for a weekend visit from Southampton.

If Jurgen Klopp’s men can prevail at Vicarage Road this evening, then Philippe Coutinho – with goals in four of his last five – and Roberto Firmino, with returns in six of his previous seven, are the Merseysiders’ form men.

Chelsea’s home encounter with Middlesbrough next Monday night offers armband potential at both ends of the pitch.

Eden Hazard – with points in seven of his last eight – is the Blues’ in-form asset against a defence that has conceded four times in each of their previous two away matches under Steve Agnew.

The Belgian has more goals (11) at home than any other FPL midfielder and bagged six lots of 10+ points hauls at the Bridge

Only last week, Diego Costa served up 16 points at home to Southampton – his highest haul of the season – to finish just one point behind United’s Double Gameweek 34 duo David De Gea and Anthony Martial.

Having earned a first clean sheet in 12 attempts away to Everton yesterday, the Blues’ Marcos Alonso could also be in profit.

The Spaniard – who is ranked top among defenders for both shots on goal (39) and FPL points per match (5.5) this season – will face a travel-sick attack with a mere ten goals away from home in 2016/17.

The Captain Poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under Recent Comments.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll ahead of Friday evening’s 7pm Gameweek 36 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article, offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

How’s the rest of your team? Hope you don’t mind me asking. I’ve chosen Anichebe to allow a decent midfield, backline and goalie duo, but still I find myself wondering whether I should downgrade Sánchez also to allow further upgrades.

This is what I'm currently lining up with:

      Caballero
      Alonso - Cahill - Yoshida
      Sanchez - Hazard - Alli - Sane - King
      Kane - Jesus

      Pickford - Stephens - Holgate - Anichebe

If he's going to continue to play then I want to find 0.5m to bring in Davies for Yoshida.

Double Chelsea defence due to fixtures and the fact Cahill has goal threat - hopefully not missed all the goals already!

I'd really like Kompany in there somewhere and have toyed with going 4-4-2 at the back. Tough decisions ahead!

Very similar to my team too. Which of the following options would you choose?

        Option A (Double gameweek * and x 2 DGW **)

        Cech** Caballero*
        Alonso* Monreal** Yoshida** Stephens** Holgate
        Sanchez** Hazard* Alli* Sane* King
        Kane* Jesus* Anichebe*

        Option B

        Pickford* Caballero*
        Alonso* Monreal** Yoshida** Stephens** Jones*
        Sanchez** Hazard* Alli* Sane* Pedro*
        Kane* Jesus* Anichebe*

Really tempted to go with B to have as many possible double gameweekers as possible. Fools gold?

If Rose is on the bench for the next GW, then I'd give it 1 more GW for Davies.
Sanchez is a must because of his explosiveness (many will disagree).
King is essential IMO. Look at those fixtures!
Gabbiadini will probably disappoint (coming from an owner).

This is my current WC. Pretty happy mostly except just not sure about Redmond. Having Redmond/Anichebe over Gabbi + cheap mid gives me 1m extra to do Gabriel to Yoshi though. And with Redmond having a double double its worth the risk I think. May get JWP instead and then maybe Koscielny

      Cech, Pickford
      Alonso, Monreal, Vert, Yoshi, Stephens
      Sanchez, Hazard, Eriksen, King, Redmond
      Kane, Jesus, Anichebe

Holgate is an option. Can see a cleanie vs WAT. Could also go for Gabriel but game time is a risk - reckon he will start one. Another option is Ake - risky but I can see him start one game.

How quickly will Rose oust Davies? Rose is training outdoors with the team, but it is a nibbling injury. I reckon Rose will make the bench in 38.

Is Sanchez still a must? Yes. He plays against a United team who are knackered and have no defence. Plus Southampton are conceding LOADS of attempts in the box. Going into this GW, they were top for shots conceded in the box. See the last captain sensible article.

Is King essential without a double? Yes.

Will Gabbiadini disappoint? You have to have him IMO. His points ceiling is potentially much higher across 4 games. I certainly wouldn't replace him with a player with just 2 games.

Southampton are conceding lots of attempts in the box. But who is taking the shots in the box for Arsenal? Not Sanchez, not Ozil. That is the concern. Giroud or Welbeck may troll everyone. If only Wenger would play Sanchez up front then it would be a no brainer.

Not sure on Gabbiadini at all. With Long, Rodriguez and perhaps Austin back for GW37, his pitch time is surely going to take a big dent and few will captain him with that in mind.

I think a single GW option with heavier investment in a GW37 bench boosted defence might just be a stronger option.

What Strikers are you considering then?
I think Jesus and Kane are the two essentials. City have two home fixtures and Aguero is likely going to be sidelined. Kane is Kane.

Certainly it's Kane and Jesus. But then it's whether I want a stronger presence at the back - or take a chance on Gabriel's two starts. Having Monreal, Cech and Cabellero could balance out not going for Gabbiadini if he only gets 100 minutes over the two GW37 matches. We can't forget that his fixtures are pretty bad too - depending on the Boro situation and United's teamsheet.

I think the four (potential) appearances is key. I'm stuck with him because I wildcarded last week, but even if I was wildcarding this week I would get him.

Southampton have been creating tonnes of chances all season and have had no one to put them away. I think Puel will be aware of this and will want his most clinical player on the pitch.

I can't see him rushing Austin back given his injury record.

I think with two double gameweeks Gabbiadini is pretty unlikely to disappoint. In any one game he has the quality to score, so even with the potential rotation I expect him to do well.

He's not in that many of the wildcard teams I've seen on him the last two days and I think that is a bit strange. His ceiling is super high and his risk isn't really bigger than anybody elses.

He's struggled a bit after his injury and I agree he's not been good, but if he's benched I still think he's likely to come on and he might just as well refind his form in which case it would be disastrous to leave him out

He's up against Liverpool, Arsenal, United and a Boro perhaps fighting for survival - what's his ceiling with those fixtures in a Southampton side in very scratchy form with nothing to play for?

Had he shown some form and not suffered early withdrawals, I'd agree, but it's not as cut and dry as it was.

My other considering is that, in GW36, playing Gabbiadini would mean dropping one of my midfield (Sanchez, Hazard, King, Eriksen and Alli) or not playing Jesus vs Palace. Who gets dropped for Gabbiadini in that lot? Not easy. It points to a cheap striker with bigger investment at the back.

I think his ceiling in those fixtures is very high. He scored two goals, and another wrongfully disallowed, against United in the league cup final so he has proved he can do it against good teams.

I agree with your last point though, it's not clear cut because those other players also have good fixtures. I think if you want the Gabbiadini punt you need to move one Spurs player from midfield to defence, or drop Sanchez, and that is obviously not for everybody.

I'm personally not 100% decided on Gabbiadini either, but I think he is a very good risk/reward bet so I'm leaning to just going with Vertonghen instead of Eriksen to make room for him.

Then I agree. But for someone like me who doesn't have his wc anymore, knowing I can bench Son or Zaha (one will make way for Sanchez before 36 as I have 8.0 itb) in 36 makes keeping Gabbiadini a better option than it is for you. And I can still have that same midfield in 37 AND play Gabbiadini with BB37

Yes, totally with the same dilemma - go with Gabbiadini, which I believe is not a strong move.
Or drop in Anichebe to have strong defense and midfield and play 3-5-2 instead of 3-4-3

Thats the very dilema I have. Seriously considering benching gabbi and swapping him for anechibe and upgrading to double Chelsea defence. The niggling issue i have with gabbi is this. He is up against Liverpool, leaky to say the least. Arsenal, i dont need to say anymore. Boro who must attack without fail (leaving them open) and a injury ravaged United defence who have europa league glory to chase. He could, i know its only a could, Score pretty well. These 60 minute cameos may just have been precautionary to get him to full fitness. But it is still hard to bench any of the names you have mentioned and with no other 6 to 6.5 dgwers available to replace gabbi your're on a hiding to nothing whatever you do. Grrr. Blasted FPL !

His form is limited to a four game purple patch a month ago - may have been just a bit of luck and he is a dud - doesn't have a great recent goal scoring record before he came to Soton

Disagree, running into an offside position doesn't mean poor service - his team mates were getting very frustrated with him. If it was just poor service Puel would have changed the midfielders rather than Gabbiadini.

Sounds like you are trying to justify having him ... and I am trying to justify not having him 😉

I will be playing Sanchez and gabba in gw36 and will captn Sanchez. Weak Man U defence and 2nd string and not convinced about saints defence either. Sanchez world class on his day.

Will then get rid of both in gw37 and get sane and Jesus in for their dbgw.

Gabba will be rotated in gw37 with the other strikers. Jesus could be a must in gw37! Also have Kane and costa.

King also a must for me. Will be at both afcb games at home to burnley and stoke.

This is my defence heavy sanchezless one andy.

So I don't think sanchez is essential at all!

In fact I think 'essential' is one of the greatest fantasy football myths

Hope for tight low scoring games in the doubles -

I have looked at this potential wildcard a 'bottom heavy' team

      (Pickford) - Cech

      __________

Huth - Cahill - Koscielny (Yoshida, Kompany)

      __________

Ali - King - Eriksen - Hazard (Albrighton)

      ____________

      Costa - Jesus - Kane

It would be a hope that all the defenders start and pick up at least one clean sheet each, knowing they are likely starters barring injury

I have changed it slightly since

          Cech - CABELLERO

          ________

Koscielny - LUIZ -huth - MONREAL - HOLGATE

Decided I do not trust the saints defence at all and treble arsenal defence is worth a gamble.

I figure my captain choices are Cech/Kane/Hazard

I have not made my mind up yet leaning towards Kane (on pens - good fixture - on form)

I just think Rashford will be played from now on and looks like the only Utd striker that can score, even off the bench with 15 minutes to go. He is young, fit and showing no sign of fatigue - this is his time

I much prefer a cheap 5th mid that I bench that has a real chance of playing 2 DGW games as a BB to the idea of a cheap 3rd striker like Anichebe or Barnes etc

Before the injury yesterday I was considering an Aguero - Jesus double up but it would have depending on results.

Now that Spurs have kept up with Chelsea again I'm not so keen on offloading Kane (which would have been a huge risk anyway).

Fitting Aguero and Kane in with my team value is tough but if he's fit he's certainly one to consider

Aye, I was considering that double up too and risking no Kane. Though it would probably have depended on Davies' gametime being secure and offering me a value alternative from a Spurs side who are worth investing in. Basically Aguero + Davies vs Kane + lesser defender, not a bad risk I think.

Aguero's injury and uncertainty around Rose are scuppering that idea though.

The problem with Anichebe is that he's a very injury prone player with questionable fitness. I highly doubt he'll play both games in a DGW. He's also a complete waste of a player slot in a Bench Boost because the Sunderland attacking threat is exactly Zero.

I'll go with Gabbiadini in GW 36 and see how it goes, if it fails, i'll either go with Anichebe and a second Chelsea defender or get Costa and downgrade Sanchez to Albrighton.

For me the front eight are fairly fixed, just defence that's giving me a headache:

      Cech / Pick
      Clichy / Davies / Huth / Yoshida / Holgate
      Sanchez / Hazard / Alli / King / Albrighton
      Kane / Costa / Jesus

Would ideally like Kompany over Clichy, and Vert over Davies, but money is too tight. Also considering Caballero for Cech and then turning Clichy into Monreal. Keep playing around with options at the back and getting nowhere!

Rose hopefully will oust Davies sooner rather than later(bleeding 6-9 pts every gw bcos of him)
      Sanchez is definitely a must
King is more essential than ever (after afobe injury n sick form)
Gabbiadini is a classy striker and could score 2 goals vs any opposition. Whether he will or not that's a different story. However he could explode n thus with 5 matches in 3 gws he's still near essential.
Already used my wc a few weeks ago but I can't picture going into 36&37 without Kane,delle/eriksen, sanchez, hazzy, aguerro (if passed fit), gabbiadini and king. I believe catching the dgw defenders will be extremely hard and thus spending on either cheap dgws or expensive big names (most subject to rot) is not really worth it especially if it comes at the expense of one of the essentials named above

WC a few weeks ago but currently on this for - 4:

      DDG
      Stephens Bertrand Davies
      San(c)hez Alli Eriksen King Hazard
      Gabbiadini Costa

      Pickford Rashford Bailly Gibson

Decision whether to get Cech or Kos or Gabriel for this week. 14 doubles plus King. Monitor Jesus for next week.

Going without Kane as Eriksen and Davies are matching him and the loss is diminished as I wouldn't captain him the next two weeks. Costa £1m cheaper.

Kane, Sanchez, Hazard, Alli/Eriksen, Chelsea Defense are absolute must haves for me
King seems essential at that price
Uncertainty and fixtures surrounding Gabbi puts off his appeal
Looking for answers on Davies' and Sane's likeliness to start all the remaining games

      WC Draft:

      Willy Pickford
      Alonso Huth Gabriel Yoshida Stephens

      Current WC is:
      Jaku Pickford

      Ozil Hazard Sane King Eriksen
      Jesus Vardy Kane

0.0 ITB but thinking Bailly > Davies for funds

I'm a bit stuck on Vardy to Gabbi. Vardy has form and good fixtures. Gabbi has one more fixture and would free up a lot more money to invest in defence. I'm happy with the midfield and GK.

I wouldn't be surprised once Chelski win the league,
Changes at the back with Terry,Ake,Zouma coming in.

Terry will keep getting sub appearances until the end of the season I'd imagine. See him out the door with a trophy ceremony and a winners medal.

      Caballero Pickford
      Alonso Bailly Gabriel Yoshida Stephens
      Sanchez Hazard King JWP Albrighton
      Kane Costa Jesus

Any hints and tips most welcome 🙂

Downgrade Costa to Gabbi to upgrade a JWP/Albrighton type. Looks decent though really, wouldn't be disappointed with that team!

      Without WC, aiming for:

      Cech, Willy
      Alonso, Vert, Yoshida, Stephens, Holgate/Ake
      Hazard, Sanchez, Eriksen, Sane, TCarroll
      Kane, Jesus, Gabbi

AOA in 38 with Cech downgrade funding a Carroll upgrade

How quickly will Rose oust Davies? Guess GW38
Is Sanchez still a must? No. But will be behind the sofa for two GWs if you don't have him
Is King essential without a double? No
      Will Gabbiadini disappoint? Probably

      RMWCT Team:

      Cech (Willy)
      Stephens - Yoshida - Gabriel - (Davies) - (Benalouane)

      Sanchez - Hazard - Eriksen - Sane - King
      Kane - Jesus - Anichebe

Over the last 4 GWs, Arsenal are top for shots conceded in the box. Even Middlesborough who have played an extra game have conceded fewer.

3 at the back not working for Arsenal.

Thinking of going to Watford this eve to luck a ticket. Only 30 mins away, guess there's no chance of me getting in the away end though

I would play your DGW players. What was the point of picking them if you aren't going to play them?

Fair point for Gabbi 😉 Tadic, however, have been in my team for a while. But you have a good point there 🙂 who would you bench then?

What do you think of this WC-team? Any way I could improve it?

    Cech Pickford
    Monreal Gabriel Alonso Yoshida Stephens/Holgate
    Hazard Alli Sane King Morrison
    Jesus Kane Gabbiadini

triple Arsenal defence is a worry...

Would get Vertonghen over Monreal perhaps. No sanchez is a bit worry imo.
      But overall looks good!

Can't see why you would leave Sanchez out. Cheapen the D and possibly consider the unholiest of holies and do Kane to Costa.

On WC, GTG as things stand? (Double game week 36* 37")

    Cech*" (Willy")
    Monreal*", Alonso", Yoshi*", (Stephens*", Holgate)
    Sanchez*", Haz", Ali", King (Morrison")
    Kane", Costa", Jesus"

I am happy with that, BB options a little weak but still could see decent returns.

    5 DGW for 36.
13 DGW for 37 with BB used.

Going forward to 37 will likely Save FT and use both GW38.

How about going Tadic on a WC and leave money to upgrade to Sane for 37 ?

    Valencia and Benteke >
    A. Koscielny and Gabbi
    B. Monreal and Gabbi
    C. Gabriel and Jesus
Jesus will come in for 37 whatever, no wc left so leaning towards B as reckon Monreal will play for rest of season whereas Gabriel may get dropped.

Repost. Which two players to bring in for a -4? Who do you prefer below?

    A) Henn & Zaha to Cech & Sánchez
    B) Gibson & Zaha to Monreal & Sánchez
    C) Henn & Benteke to Cech & Jesus
    D) Zaha & Henn to Özil & Cech

    Henn / Pickford
    Alonso Vertonghen Yoshida (Bailly, Gibson)
    Hazard Alli Zaha King JWP
    Kane Gabbi (Benteke)

Ok, cool. The way I see it Yoshi could score against both Pool and Arsenal because both teams defend set pieces poorly.

    Verts 8 7 7 6 2 7 last 6
    Alonso 6 4 0 8 2 1 last 6

    Verts better value for money?

Verts nailed till end of season
Alonso could be rested if Chelsea wrap up league with 1 or 2 games to go..

Just trying to plan my route forward...do I need to bring in a Chelsea defender in a week or 2
