An largely uninspired encounter, marked by a moment of brilliance from Emre Can. Liverpool’s 1-0 victory was priceless, from a Fantasy perspective, it was notable only for Philippe Coutinho’s early exit. Here’s the Stock Check from the final match of Gameweek 35.

In Decline

Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian went into Monday’s clash as part of just over a million FPL squads, having been acquired by more than 50,000 new Fantasy Premier League owners ahead of Liverpool’s Vicarage Road visit.

In addition, Coutinho claimed the armband for 122,000 managers who had big expectations having seen the midfielder score in four of his last five Gameweek starts.

But his night lasted less than ten minutes before he suffered a dead leg in a clash with Watford’s Adrian Mariappa; a collision which ultimately led to Coutinho succumbing to the injury on 12 minutes.

His departure saw the re-introduction of Adam Lallana following a five Gameweek absence, but that will have been little consolation for Coutinho’s owners.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed post-match that the injury should not represent a major setback…

“He has a dead leg, hopefully it’s not too serious but of course it’s really painful and no chance [he could continue]. Everybody could see he tried hard, but no chance.”

While he will be expected to be back in contention for the visit of Southampton in Gameweek 36, Coutinho’s single point return at Watford, coupled with any minor doubt of his participation against the Saints, will undoubtedly accelerate sales.

He is already hovering outside the top five for transfers out, with 22,000+ jettisoning Coutinho so far, with traffic moving to both Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard in particular.

Roberto Firmino is not far behind his team-mate and compatriot. He went into the Watford encounter having returned in each of his last five Gameweeks, producing two goals and three assists.

Despite that form, his Monday night blank will exacerbate recent sales, with Firmino already ranked fourth behind Coutinho, Son Heung-min and Wilfried Zaha among FPL midfielders.

Quite simply, with Wildcards active, double Gameweek assets are dominant and despite Liverpool’s obliging run-in, both Coutinho and Firmino look set to become unlikely differentials for those without the option of an end of season refresh.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

United won't be easy, Mourinho will just park the bus and he usually outsmarts Wenger so I can't see much for him in that. Unless he does something mildly interesting this week, I'm not getting him for gw37 either

Exactly. As an Arsenal fan so often we have played a weakened united or Mourinho team and still not got a result. Plus we have a poor record away to Southampton.

    Hazard, Sanches, Alli, King, *****
    Kane, Jesus, *****

    A) Monreal, Sane, Gabbiadini
    B) Verthongen/Gabriel, Capoue, Costa

B is more tempting, but A feels more safe as it leaves me with an Arsenal def who is nailed. Thoughts?

City defense isn't worth it I don't think. 2 goals to Middlesborough. That's just not good enough. And he's an injury risk. Either splash out for Cahill or get Vertongen.

I have caballero as my man city defence. Think that's enough. Kompany always an injury risk or could be rested.

So my plan was Cout to Sanchez for free this week. Now wondering if that's best, or go form over DGW?

    A - Cout to Sanchez
    B - Cout & Gabby to Erikson & Jesus (-4)

    Already have Sane/ Kane/ Alli

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 36

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 9am tomorrow (Wednesday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 12noon by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

The champion will be revealed in a midweek Scout Squad article, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

          Not really.
Last season the highest score won, but this time it's the biggest margin over the Scout Picks.
This makes the picks more realistic, and it may not be so easy to outscore a Scout Picks team containing most of the best DGW players.

Morning fellas. New day and a new wildcard draft. Please give your verdict if you see something obvious to change:

    Caballero, Pickford
    Vertonghen, Alonso, Gabriel, Yoshida, Stephens
    Alli, Hazard, King, Sanchez, Sane
    Kane, Jesus, Gabbiadini

This would leave me with 0.0 ITB. Gabriel's game time is a worry so could also switch him to max 4.8 sgw player.

Smooth - Reasonable week with a green arrow and 56 points. Captained Kane while rivals captained Gabbiadini, so a little gain there. Super Charlie Daniels and Josh King helped out alot.

Rough - Swapped Negredo out for Gabbiadini and benched Sigurdsson.

Unlike most weeks where I almost did something but didn't I can safely say that at no point this week did I entertain the thought of playing sigurdsson or Negredo. In fact which ever I didn't swap out would have been benched.

51 points is the bench to beat from 2 years ago as far as I know: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2015/05/21/the-rough-with-the-smooth-gameweek-37/

"Aguerooney was going for another world record this week, of having the highest ever bench score in FPL. His bench of Liverpool’s penalty-saving goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, Mane, Tottenham’s Danny Rose and Leicester’s Jeffrey Schlupp brought in an incredible 51 points."

      Incredibly simple this week:

      Rough: Negredo > Gabbi
      Smooth: Lukaku > Jesus

Although this could also be seen as rough: Lukaku > Gabbi, rough: Negredo > Jesus!

      I'm taking the positives:-)

      Smooth and Rough

      Smooth..
Sanchez to Haz and Gibbo to Daniels on my 2fts worked out well. King, Alli and Alonso.

      Rough..
Decided to hit Son out for Coutinho to cover my rival and benched Siggy in the process. Tekkers and Kaku and DeGea

54pts, 16 ahead of my rival now but had I not jerked in Coutinho I'd be feeling so much better

      Got 88 -4

Could have been 99 -4 if I had played Siggurdson and Chambers instead of Benteke and Yoshida.

But seriously, a bizarre and amazing week for me where only 1 of my 11 players blanked (Benteke) after punting on (c) Kun and Jesus in for -4 on transferring out Lukaku and Negredo.

Put me into the top 10K for the first time in 10 seasons of playing and now I'm nervously trying to figure out how to stay there on WC.

      Smooth:
      - Um, King?
      - Spurs go marching on
      - A Chelsea clean sheet! But 3 Chelsea goals all from the wrong side of the pitch for Alonso.

      Rough:
      - Coutinho captain. Enough said. If he hadn't played at all...
      - Benched Rashford. Because there was a big risk he wouldn't start, right?
      - Transferred out Fraser for Coutinho as a 1-week punt. Should have kept him and his 5 points.
      - Played the wrong keeper - Hennessy over Heaton. What a time to get their first away win (and a clean sheet with it) of the season.

      Average 55 points.

      Rough, benched jaku and chambers.

Smooth, Kane captain and Ali scoring in 2 mins of each other. Big plus was the Man U game, Bailey bagging clean sheet points then siggy saying goodbye to my team with a goal wiping off loads of Man U cleanies in the process.

Smooth: Brought in Josh King (finally!) on a wildcard. Alli and Kane keeps delivering.

Rough: My pre wildcard team actually outscored my wildcard team. Who would have thought that players like Negredo against City, Siggy against United and Davies against Arsenal would outscore my carefully crafted triple City, triple Chelsea wildcard team? That's football I guess...

      Smooth Baillys deserved 6 points

Rough Sold Negredo for Gabi and benched Chambers. In the final minute of Saturdays 3oclocks I lost Pickford CS and bonus and then a Yoshida assit due to Tadic being Tadic and fluffing the pen. Jaku Pen save also gave me ML rival 14 points. Urgh.

Maybe I'm being pedantic but benching players who hauled that you were never gonna play aint rough, if anything it's smooth that you've got them in your squad. It's only rough if one of your starters is benched and comes on for a 5 minute cameo at the end

Or a 13-minute cameo at the start...

Agreed. But there's always an element of "if only I'd taken the risk on my 5th mid / 4th defender...", it's only natural.

Smooth: swapped Jaku for Pickford Saturday morning to gain on Gabbi's owners in my ML in case of Hull CS, penalty saved was a nice add-on, very good performance from my team except Zaha&Benteke, 69pts no hits, 9th green in a row 🙂

Rough: picking my captain between King/Kane/Benteke, of course I had to chose Christian, I just had to... 🙁

After WC, a lot of different roughs and smooths:

      Rough:
Gabbi for Negredo, I'm sure that one is pretty common.
Got rid of Alli to get Costa, that didn't work out too well.
Got rid of Siggy, but got King so it evens out.
Got Firmino instead of Sanchez, expecting a haul. I gained 1pt but I wasted a transfer.

      Smooth:
      Double Saints defense.
Finally got King and he delivered right away.
Kane (c) not so good but better than plenty of alternatives.

        Rough:

Negredo > Gabbi for a hit.
        Benched Siggy.
        Benched Davies.

Rough - Negredo to Benteke (c) as a one gameweek punt. Also benching Jaku for foster, and Walker's cameo preventing Robertson's points coming off the bench.

        Smooth- few and far between

Mini league lead intact minimal gains from Rivals

        Rough
        Tfr punts never paid off
Gab and defoe in Lukaku and Negrado
        Kane scored which helped
        Kind Benched 🙁
        OR from 57K to 90K
Valencia coming on would have had 5 from Maguire
Hennessey 4 game stint very low returns and Jako 14 pts on bench
        46 with a minus 12

Overall a bad week but limited damage in ML due to others captain choices .

Played AOA, with Valencia (rollercoaster) and Erik Pieters (No show). Pieters got replaced with Alonso, so made no difference there!

Triple spurs attack still rolling along nicely, gutted that Ali and Erik missed sitters, with Kane captain that's a 16 point difference pre bonus between the 3 of them!

Smooth; Full house of defensive points in Heaton, Maguire, Alonso and Toby again. Siggy returning, Alli.

Rough; Benteke captain, second time he's mullered me but at least it wasn't a -2 this time around! Chose the wrong Negredo replacement getting Gabbi in to beat price rises did fancy a one week punt on Vardy or even Sane in as 5th mid and going AOA.

Rough: Benched Jaku and Toby for Hennesy and Valencia (that was ups and downs during the sunday afternoon for sure-) Cout injured annoyingly since so few had him (for that who counts respectively ML and OR, his total ownership is high, i know) Yoshi was partly rough and smooth, Cs of course nice but that Tadic miss..
Smooth; all in all a fairly nice GW, with 58 points. Jesus started and scored, and Aguero injured so that punt could´nt have gone better-) and Kane captain vs MLL had Costa, so that one went well. My team set up is nice, even without WC-)

Went for a last minute wildcard Saturday morning!

It worked out well - got 61 points and up to 14k in world.

Smooth - Stephens, Yoshida, Hazard, Alli, Eriksen, King, Kane (c).

Rough - Pickford, Kelly, Sanchez, Gabbiadini.

Most bizarre GW ever for me.

Rough: First time in three years missing the deadline (Potting beans in the greenhouse). Left Negrado (c), Siggy in the midfield, Sterling and Daniels on the bench.

        Smooth: Negrado 🙂 , Siggy 🙂 , Alli, Heaton & Alonso returns.

Smooth: Every player returned apart from Gabbi and Henessey. Benching Sanchez paid off.

Rough: Captained Kane over King, having toyed with the idea of either all week.

Brought in Jesus for Lukaku for free transfer
Jaku penalty save and clean sheet for 14 points
Stephens came off the bench (replacing Stones) 8 points
Bailly's 6 pointer and Alonso clean sheet
        Kane (c) and Alli
Sane getting a 45 min rest - and delivering an assist

        Rough:

Robertson's 6 points remained on the bench. Would have given me a 40 point defence.

I think 20+ points on my bench for the 2nd week in a row definitely counts as a rough 🙁

The biggest rough of all though has to be my sub goalkeeper (Jaku) saving a penalty from my one of my outfield players (Tadic).

        Lame.

It could be argued you made a mistake in benching the bench boost as well this week, but that's probably not what you want to hear right now!

After all this its almost guaranteed your bench in 37 will bring in a mere 8 points or something now....

I wasn't going to use it this week, fixtures didn't look great on paper. Was 50/50 about using it last week so was disappointed when they delivered and I didn't use it.

Haha I know, was just saying it would be sod's law of FPL for something like that to happen! Hoping you can bring in a nice 30+ points off the bench in 37 of course 🙂

I think this week was just really bad luck. I was the same 50/50 on Bench Boost last week, kinda wish I'd used it then too as I ended up losing a key H2H match by one point because my opponent had De Gea...

I know its said by Mark that its better to own these players and bench them than not own them at all, which I guess is true, but it certainly feels worse than not owning them doesn't it! It is also easy for him to say that as he almost always gets his high scoring bench players on the pitch somehow 😉

        Rough

Phillipe Coutinho was a big reason not to pull the WC trigger a week early. Proceeded to get all my 50/50 calls wrong:

Sold Negredo for Gabbi rather than Zaha for King (was close to hitting in King as well as I really feared him).

Played Brunt (2) over Adam Smith (8), but not to worry as Valencia wasn’t going to play!

WBA concede from the only SoT against them, whereas Bournemouth get a CS from 5 SoT against.

Kane booking as Captain taking away possible Baps.

          Aguero (C) out 24pt.. Jesus (C) in 12 points (-4 points hit)

Foster playing 2pt.. Jakupovic on the bench 14 pt.

Coutinho in 1pt.. Sigurdsson on the bench 10 pts...

Ended by 60-4 points. I could have ended by 93 points. That's the difference between 5k rank and 1-2k rank.

Valencia comes on about 10 minutes into the match. Uh-oh! Swansea are all over United.. (Not looking good.)
United are looking at the last 15 minutes with a goal lead and I am already checking my scores... (too-soon)
          United concede. (Obscenities...)
Walker benched! Yoshida will surely come on now!
89th minute, Walker comes on for Trippier. Yoshida rooted to the bench now (orders a large drink)
Monday night I have only Coutinho and hoping for him to salvage my 32 point week till then.... (lol)
10 minutes in, Coutinho suffers a dead leg. (switches off tv, throws the remote into the river and goes to sleep)

Rough: Siggy's goal (who I sold for Zaha a couple weeks ago!) cost me 10-13 points from DDG/Valencia CS + bonus. No bonus from Alli Erik Kane (c) triple up, who all somehow only single returned despite missing open goals, and that Kane yellow card for nothing was brutal. Swapping captain/vc between King to Kane before deadline (my 5th week of getting c/vc wrong in a row which has cost me 27 points). Zaha/Gabbi 1pters. Yoshida missing out on 6 points due to Tadic missing the penalty he won.

Smooth: Valencia coming on early was nearly a huge piece of luck, ended up matching the 2 points I would have got from Brunt autosub. Bailly coming off before conceding, although will be neutralised if he's injured and I have to -4 him out. King late winner for an extra 8 points. Erik Alli Kane triple up all returning some points. Yoshida - the gift that keeps on giving.

Bit late as I was working, but massive smooth this week!

          Rough = 47 pter, Kane yc = 6pt swing.

Smooth = just about held on in my uber-competitive ML April standings (and £10) by 2 points. I only won because the following things happened:
          1) Gabbi (his c) went off 59'. 20 more seconds on the pitch and I'd have lost.
          2) Bailly went off 60:01 (got me a cs). If he crossed the line a la Cedric I'd have lost.
          3) Firmino blank. Anything from Bobby and he'd have won.
          4) He had Alonso (6) first sub and Luiz (8) second sub. He got Alonso on. If he'd have done the reverse, he'd have won.

Ludicrously lucky after an indifferent GW.

Rough: I sold Jakupovic for Caballero and did Negredo to Gabbiadini for a hit.

Caballero and Gabbi scored me 3 points.
Jaku and Negredo scored a combined 25 points.
          Net loss: 26 points.

Smooth - Kane (C) while others in my ML did Gabbi or Lukaku

Rough - Took a rare (-4) to bring in Benteke/Arnautovic for Lukaku and Siggy as pre WC punts while benching Heaton, Maguire and Negredo. All these decisions resulting in a whopping estimated -27 points 🙂

I’ve been let down by Benteke quite a few times this season, despite his ‘good’ stats, so I shouldn’t be surprised. I should’ve seen that triple Palace couldn’t go well. The moves probably lost me two money leagues, and a couple head-to-heads. I loaded up on Palace also with the Burnley at home fixture in mind, seen as the most favorable this gameweek, and there were signs of form in the Palace side. But yeah, it was well deserved.

Can I get a smooth with a red arrow? Not sure I can figure this out. Dropped 300 places overall. So a tiny red. Did a -8 Sterling Valencia and Negredo out for King Alonso and Jesus. Obviously King got 11 points, Alonso 6 points with his first clean sheet in 11 matches and three juicy home games coming, and Jesus also coming in with a goal and 3 great home fixtures now. Sterling was benched and Valencia too. Negredo did slightly better!

3 Roughs, 1 Smooth, Green arrow worth 10k.

          R:
Transferred Negredo out for -4 (11 this GW) to Costa (1 this week), net effect -14 points.
13:59pm Captain change Kun to Kane, net effect = 14
          Jaku bench, -11 points!

          S:
          Emre Can 11 unexpected points!

Rough - benched Siggy, sold Negredo and Alli, took a -8

Smooth - King (about it really!), pleased to have Hazard in place although I should have waited a week before selling Alli for a -4.

small red overall, no WC probably means another -8 this week... really hope I make the top 10K, a lot resting on BB in GW37

          The roughest gameweeks of all
          - Did Gibson + Lukaku -> Kelly + Gabbi (-4)
          - Had six 1 pointers from Kelly, Coutinho, Tadic, Zaha, Gabbi, Tekkers
          - Benched Siggy and Maguire
          - Finished with 35(-4) and dropped from 50k to 80k

          Rough:
Got rid of Negredo for Gabby.
Also brought in Caballero and benched Heaton.
Benched Stephens over Valencia and ML rival had Bailly.
Had 23 points on the bench. (Stephen, Heaton, Friend, Carroll)

          Smooth:
All my on field mids got returns and Daniels got me a cs on debut.

Smooth : Scored 63 after a Saturday morning WC
Daniels, Yoshida and Alonso chipped from my new 7 man defence along with new arrivals, King, Hazard and Jesus.

Rough : Tadic penalty miss cost a Yoshida assist and losing a few high scorers on WC like Jaku/Heaton, Siggy and Negredo. Chances are Negredo would have been benched and minimum Heaton.

Smooth for some people should be Baily getting injured and taking two minutes to leave the field. This goes back to a scoutcast from a few weeks ago saying that a player could lose a clean sheet by crossing the white line at 59:59. Baily crossed at 60:13. Lucky, lucky people.

My week so rough that I have waites to comment the last week to now:

Rough: 38 (!!) points on the bench (Jaku, Chambers, Robertson and Siggy) and I had Tadic and Yoshida who would got a lot more point if Tadic scored and Jaku on the bench would got less points. I got only 42 (-4) points so equally points in first XI and on the bench.

Smooth: I got a gift from the FPL-community in Norway for my bad luck 😉

        Greetings Pundits!

I am in the money for my mini league but I am looking to cement 1st place (behind by 18 points) I have all 3 chips intact for the final run in, do I:

        Option A: 36 TC Sanchez, 37 BB, 38 AOA

Option A logically would make more sense considering a player is playing twice (xpts*3)*2 but with Sanchez not firing and Gabi being subbed at 59, it's looking slim pickings.

        Option B: 36 AOA, 37 BB, 38 TC

Option B would be to x3 captain any player chasing the golden boot, Chelsea at home to Sunderland looks lucrative in 38

Mini league rivals are wildcarding this week and have used the x3 captain

        Your esteemed opinion is awaited.

        This'll do, won't it?

        Jaku
        Alonso, Yoshi, Robertson, Daniels
        Sanchez, Alli, Costa
        Kane, Jesus, Costa

        Grant, Davies, Zaha, Gibson

        0FT + 0.7m

        Anything else worth a hit?
