We assessed the double Gameweek 36 defensive options yesterday and now turn our attentions to attack in the second of our two-part series.

Neither Arsenal nor Southampton approach their pair of fixtures in convincing form, yet while the Saints are ensconced in the security of mid-table, Arsene Wenger’s men have plenty to play for with a top-four spot still in the balance.

Their push for a Champions League finish is very much in Fantasy managers’ minds – Alexis Sanchez, as the top scoring player in FPL, is the most sought-after pick in the Gameweek ahead of a home encounter with Man United and a midweek trip to St Mary’s.

Over 66,000 have snapped up the Chilean this week, yet one goal in the last six Gameweeks is a clear concern, with the recent switch to 3-4-2-1 seeing Sanchez alternate between a central support berth and the lone striker spot.

Mesut Ozil has been stationed alongside Sanchez behind the lone striker in recent matches. A secure starter, two goals and a pair of assists in his last six make Ozil the Gunners’ form attacker and, at 9.4 to Sanchez’ 11.5, he is far kinder on the budget.

Wenger’s shape-shifting has seen Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud all drift in and out of the starting XI in recent matches, with too many question marks hovering over their pitch time.

The switch to 3-4-2-1 could promote Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as an unlikely double Gameweek asset, though. He has been handed a wing-back berth in recent matches and bagged an assist in the FA Cup win over City.

For Southampton, Claude Puel’s recent penchant for rotation may have limited our viable options.

The number one transfer target for Gameweek 35, Manolo Gabbiadini, was hauled off before 60 minutes in last weekend’s goalless home draw against Hull City.

Four goals in his first three league appearances highlighted his points potential, yet the Italian’s pitch-time remains an issue – he’s been replaced before the hour-mark in two of his three outings since returning from injury.

Having played 90 minutes in each of the last five Gameweeks, Dusan Tadic (6.9) looks the most secure option in Southampton’s midfield. Granted, a single assist in his last seven is far from encouraging, while the Serbian’s missed spot-kick against Hull has also deterred many from taking the leap.

Elsewhere in the sub-6.0 category, Nathan Redmond (5.9) and James Ward-Prowse (5.0) have both started eight of the Saints’ last nine league matches, scoring three and two times respectively over that period.

However, it’s only recently that doubts have emerged over their minutes – Redmond was benched in Gameweek 34 and Ward-Prowse in Gameweek 35 as Puel looked to give the fit-again Sofiane Boufal more pitch-time.

The Top Targets

Alexis Sanchez – despite a downturn in output, the Chilean remains a dominant figure in his side’s attacks and has produced eight double-digit hauls this term. Owned by over 25%, Sanchez looks the runaway armband candidate this week – over 51% of the voters have picked him in our Captain Poll.

Manolo Gabbiadini – although there are question marks over the Italian’s pitch-time, he still offers the most potent goal threat in Puel’s side. Since making his debut in Gameweek 24, Gabbiadini has registered more shots in the box than any team-mate. Over the season, only Sergio Aguero (18.3 minutes) has fired an attempt on goal more frequently than the winter signing (22.3 minutes) among first-choice forwards.

Differentials

Mesut Ozil – it’s fair to say that Ozil has been fortunate to score twice in the Gunners’ last six – he’s produced just three efforts on goal to Sanchez’s 16. Nonetheless, the German has the potential to serve up explosive hauls – he’s registered 10+ points hauls on six occasions this term.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – he has started three of the four matches as a right wing-back in all competitions since Wenger’s change of formation. The only exception was at home to Leicester City, where he was benched with a minor knock. A big punt but, at a price of just 5.8, the versatile midfielder could appeal to those unwilling to shell out on Ozil.

Dusan Tadic – over the last six Gameweeks, the playmaker sits fifth for shots on goal (18) and fourth for chances created (16). Although he’s struggled to translate that into Fantasy returns, Tadic – with just a 2% ownership – has the underlying numbers to emerge as a valid differential for those keen to invest in Puel’s attack.

Nathan Redmond – he may have only scored six times this season, yet the summer signing from Norwich still boasts a decent goal threat. Priced at a mere 5.9, Redmond is ranked top for shots, efforts in the box and attempts on target for Southampton in 2016/17.

I've not done it yet but I honestly think a WC team with no Kane and no Sanchez could outscore the teams with. It's a gamble but tough fixtures and almost no form mean you could really win by upgrading other parts of the team. Esp if you are BB next week and therefore scoring from every player.
I know it's against the template but does anyone agree?

      Depends on the upgrades.

You will only get some of them for one gameweek and have a weaker side for 36 and 38.

        But look at their fixtures.
They aren't scoring big against Leic or United. At least I struggle to see more than the odd goal. Alli has been involved in plenty of their goals too.
Kanes only hit double figures once away from home.
3 of 4 are away from home.
Look, I'm not saying it's the way to go but with all these like for like template teams and very few teams worth over 105m, it's worth looking at differentials of who to leave out as much as who to shoehorn in.

      I agree with this
But you need to have One Atleast out of the Two
Going without Both is Dangerous and also I think it's easy to afford one of them and have a Very good Team
So dont see the need to go without Both

I agree and I made my team without Sanchez, albeit with Kane. I want form players above all else - Costa, Kane, Jesus (arguably), Hazard, Alli and Sane are the stars of my team. I would have to forgo two of those if I wanted Sanchez in.

I've had Sanchez all season and it's seems mad transferring him out on a double double but I'm seriously thinking about it. If I make him Sane that's almost 4 mill more to spread elsewhere.
That's at least 1 improvement in midfield and two big improvements in defence. That could easily be worth 15-20 points ie Vert over McGuire, Bailly over Yosh, Haz over Ozil. Will Sanchez score more than that over Sane?
      Food for thought.

Disagree, I think it will be more centered on self criticism. Like I knew the guy had no form and was way out on the wing playing 2 tough matches, what was I thinking!?! And then we will all ship him out for DGW37 and he'll haul and then the angry screw this season posts will flood in.

Or he could haul just enough this week to match the Aguero TC decision.

    A) Kane (whu)
    B) Hazard (MID)
    C) Sanchez (MUN) (sou)

C, one goal in two matches should net about 36 points for the GW.

Just realised I've given myself a huge benching dilemma:

    1. King (STK)
    2. Alli (whm)
    3. Sane (CRY)

Have Kane and Jesus - currently benching Sane due to lower ownership - though maybe that's a reason to play him too...

    I'm lost.

      Sané, with regret.

I think a lot of people will have benching headaches with DGW37 obsession 🙂

Very tough decision, wouldn't want to be in your shoes.
But with a gun to my head, would be Sane.

Thoughts on this for a wildcard draft?

    Cech Caballero
    Alonso Monreal Yoshida Stephens Holgate
    Sanchez Hazard Alli Sane King
    Kane Jesus Anichebe

Nothing in the bank. I could go Vertonghen over Monreal.

Something different from all the wildcard talk. Check this video out, where there's a hockey style penalty shootout. Also some great moustaches and hair styles on show.

    Penalties ~2.15 minutes in.

    Pick one of the options:

    A - Costa and Siggy
    B - Sanchez and Llorente
C - Sanchez and other attacker (£6.3m available)

    Start 2 from:
    A) Benteke (mci)
    B) Vertonghen (whu)
    C) Baines (swa)
    D) Stephens (liv, ARS)

    Current 9, DGWers in caps:
    CECH
    Alonso, YOSHIDA
    SAN(C)HEZ, Hazard, Sane, Eriksen
    Kane, GABBIADINI

I'm assuming that was a reply to me, I am currently on A and B. So totally different. Only reason I haven't gone for D is that I already have Yoshida. Swansea fighting for their lives, West Ham have nothing to play for, though Carroll might be back.

        Benteke tough gsme
Vertongan could leak a goal away from home
        Baines on pens
Stephens 2 games (8 points last game)

Am chasing in 2 ML's so need some differentials for WC. Squad is

    Pick / Caballero
    Kone / Vertongen / Gabriel / Stephens / Blind
    Eriksen / Ozil / Sanchez / Tadic / Sane
    Jesus / Costa / Gabbi

    Look ok?

    1. Coaly
      • 13 Years
      9 years, 28 days ago

      Blind no
      Gabriel no

Diff team could have Huth, Maguire, Trippier, Vardy, Kompany

Not sure whether you need both Sanchez and Ozil. Blind not nailed on now that Jones and Smalling are back. Kone has little to play for now. Otherwise looks good

Hi. WC. Pretty template but is this G2G? Only concern is Gabriel. 0.1 ITB

    Caballero
    Alonso, Vert, Gabriel
    Sanchez, Hazard, Alli, Sane, King
    Kane, Jesus

    Pickford, Yoshida, Anichebe, Stephens

With the Mustafi news I'd probably forget about gabriel. If wenger reverts to a back four you're goosed.

Is Gabbiandi too likely to be benched/rested over the double?

Am I better to bench him and play JWP instead? He already got his rest last weekend?
