A Marouane Fellaini goal helps Manchester United to the Europa League final – a match in which key defender Eric Bailly will take no part after he is sent off at Old Trafford.

That could mean extra league involvement for the centre-half in a United side otherwise subject to major rotation ahead of that late-May final.

Here’s the Scout Notes from a night of intrigue and golden chances missed.

Manchester United 1 Celta Vigo 1 (United win 2-1 on aggregate)

Manchester United’s 12th 1-1 draw of the season was one of the more lively ones, with red cards and late Celta Vigo misses contributing to an anxious Old Trafford finish.

Marouane Fellaini headed home from a superb Marcus Rashford cross – a goal that should have settled first-half nerves.

But the Spaniards were twice the craven team of the first leg, dominating possession and creating a number of chances throughout.

Once the visitors had finally equalised, United were left clinging on to their aggregate lead and survived courtesy of Celta’s profligacy – most notably when striker John Guidetti missed a golden opportunity with effectively the last kick of the tie.

But they will go into the final on Wednesday, May 24, without centre-half Eric Bailly.

The Ivorian was sent off following a mini-melee, opening up the intriguing possibility that the 9.0%-owned defender could now play all three of United’s league matches in a run-in he would otherwise have expected to be used sparingly.

A double Gameweek 37 starts hard, away at Spurs, and then eases to Southampton at St Mary’s before a final day home match with Crystal Palace rounds off the domestic season – just three days before the Europa League final in Stockholm.

Should he feature heavily in the league, Bailly could be expected to score well at the heart of a defence that’s kept five clean sheets in the last six matches.

But with United now just one match from Champions League qualification, doubts over the make-up and motivation of Jose Mourinho’s teams from here on in will involve many more players than just Bailly.

The coach started the same XI in both legs of the semi-final. If that is his Europa League template, then the likes of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and the fit-again Juan Mata could be in for a busy end to the domestic campaign.

United, however, are turning few heads with their attacking prowess at the moment – they’ve scored just one goal in their last three Gameweeks.

Decent Fantasy returns, therefore, are likely to come from more defensive outlets, if at all, with the 34.3%-owned David de Gea a solid candidate.

United have eyes only for Europe now. Fantasy managers would be wise to look far closer to home – a view that takes in precious few of Mourinho’s men.

Manchester United XI: Romero, Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Darmian, Fellaini, Herrera, Pogba, Mkhitaryan (Carrick 77), Rashford (Smalling 89), Lingard (Rooney 86).
Subs not used: de Gea, Jones, Mata, Martial.

"a small chance"? Perhaps Koscielny sits out the Stoke game too. Would be daft to risk it with the FA Cup final to come.

I think Ox is given a rest too with Bellerin stepping in. He can always come back in for Sunderland where is defensive qualities aren't needed so much.

My thoughts too. Nailed on ness, goal involvement, motivation and above all else - great fixtures.

Also he's a midfielder and those CS points all help with a captain - especially over two games.

      Can't decided between Sanchez/Jesus.

Sanchez - play 180, midfielder goal points and CS points. However, Arsenal not free scoring.

Jesus - City free scoring. Won't play full 180. Maybe 100 across both.

Jesus, man city in better form with better players that haven't just played 2 games in quick succession, both games at home, weakened leic team, plus his goal involvement when on the pitch is far better than Sanchez recently

Tempted by Alonso, can't see him being rotated out as he is so essential to the way Chelsea play, and there's no like - for - like replacement. If he plays twice, 2x CS and potential goal threat + BPS

      Disagree completely on Sanchez.

What if Stoke hold Arsenal and Liverpool beat West Ham? Have we learnt nothing from last Friday?

A not-caring Arsenal with one eye on Wembley?
A bored-looking Sanchez with one shot on target over 2 games?

KDB by a mile for me. City were wonderful last week and he, Sane, Sterling and Silva could rack up points.

Like most here torn between Jesus and Sanchez. On Jesus atm, based on fixtures and City's form. Got lucky with Sanchez (c) goal last gw but his positioning and involvement is worrying, can see him blanking in both games. Have a feeling that Giroud will start up front after his goal though, which can only help Sanchez. Decision of the season.

        Anichebe is so pointless imo..
Don't see him getting any points
Imo getting Anichebe is the kneejerk of having all dgw players

2 fixtures so potentially 4 points, lots of good midfield options.

He's 0.5 cheaper then some of these albrightons and Ndidi lot that people are going for as enablers

Plus he plays Swansea so it's not out of the question he could get something, they won 2-0 last weekend!

Yeah but Leicester is playing good and Albrighton has all ready provided something.. Anichebe hasn't.. I've gone with cheap option Ayew have more confidence in hes one game then in Anichebe hes two games

      Quite tempted by Sane captain.

He was given a rest vs Middlesborough game before last, so I can see him starting both games. He and Sterling were bombing on and were the main penalty box threats vs Palace, with Jesus dropping back and occupying defenders.

To be honest i don't see Pep playing both Jesus and Aguero. Certainly not in the first game anyway, I think Aguero will start on the bench.

2 ozil and gabbi to kdb and vokes for -4 - play king, bench vokes, play him next week home to WHM
3 save transfer, play gabbi bench king
4 ozil to sane for free

      My front eight:

      Sanchez ozil hazard eriksen king
      Kane Jesus gabbiadini
