A Marouane Fellaini goal helps Manchester United to the Europa League final – a match in which key defender Eric Bailly will take no part after he is sent off at Old Trafford.

That could mean extra league involvement for the centre-half in a United side otherwise subject to major rotation ahead of that late-May final.

Here’s the Scout Notes from a night of intrigue and golden chances missed.

Manchester United 1 Celta Vigo 1 (United win 2-1 on aggregate)

Manchester United’s 12th 1-1 draw of the season was one of the more lively ones, with red cards and late Celta Vigo misses contributing to an anxious Old Trafford finish.

Marouane Fellaini headed home from a superb Marcus Rashford cross – a goal that should have settled first-half nerves.

But the Spaniards were twice the craven team of the first leg, dominating possession and creating a number of chances throughout.

Once the visitors had finally equalised, United were left clinging on to their aggregate lead and survived courtesy of Celta’s profligacy – most notably when striker John Guidetti missed a golden opportunity with effectively the last kick of the tie.

But they will go into the final on Wednesday, May 24, without centre-half Eric Bailly.

The Ivorian was sent off following a mini-melee, opening up the intriguing possibility that the 9.0%-owned defender could now play all three of United’s league matches in a run-in he would otherwise have expected to be used sparingly.

A double Gameweek 37 starts hard, away at Spurs, and then eases to Southampton at St Mary’s before a final day home match with Crystal Palace rounds off the domestic season – just three days before the Europa League final in Stockholm.

Should he feature heavily in the league, Bailly could be expected to score well at the heart of a defence that’s kept five clean sheets in the last six matches.

But with United now just one match from Champions League qualification, doubts over the make-up and motivation of Jose Mourinho’s teams from here on in will involve many more players than just Bailly.

The coach started the same XI in both legs of the semi-final. If that is his Europa League template, then the likes of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and the fit-again Juan Mata could be in for a busy end to the domestic campaign.

United, however, are turning few heads with their attacking prowess at the moment – they’ve scored just one goal in their last three Gameweeks.

Decent Fantasy returns, therefore, are likely to come from more defensive outlets, if at all, with the 34.3%-owned David de Gea a solid candidate.

United have eyes only for Europe now. Fantasy managers would be wise to look far closer to home – a view that takes in precious few of Mourinho’s men.

Manchester United XI: Romero, Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Darmian, Fellaini, Herrera, Pogba, Mkhitaryan (Carrick 77), Rashford (Smalling 89), Lingard (Rooney 86).
Subs not used: de Gea, Jones, Mata, Martial.

Still on Sanchez(c) but really nervous about this Arsenal formation...they look so average going forward with Sanchez rarely amongst the final couple of touches for chances.

Alternative would be Kane or Jesus.

        Yeah.

Many aren't considering Kane - but i think mentally they're in another place compared to last season. They lost the plot last season...but honestly, they have done nothing wrong this season. Should end season well.

Did you watch Vardy play earlier in the season?

He was constantly irate at his teammates for not finding him early -- definitely up for it

But Ranieri wanted to play 2 strikers, rather than Okazaki as journeyman feeding Vardy, and more deliberate buildup

This is where many fans are short sighted fickle idiots. They forgive players far too easily for this sort of thing. They boo'd for a couple of games then all is forgiven. Hazard should have been sold for what he did.

Really stuck here guys, I've got at least Rashford and Valencia to sort out and also ideally two Saints attackers.

      DDG Caballero
      Alonso Mustafi Valencia Yoshida Holgate
      Sanchez Hazard Alli Eriksen JWP
      Kane Rashford Gabbiadini

1 FT, 1.9 ITB, BB active.

      A) Valencia & Rashford > Clichy & Jesus -4
      B) Valencia, JWP, Rashford, Gabbiadini > Brunt, Sane, Anichibe, Jesus -12
      C) Valencia > Kompany FT
      D) Valencia, JWP, Rashford > 4.5def, KDB, Anichebe -8
      E) Valencia, Gabbiadini, Rashford > Holding, Defoe, Jesus -8

Just worried that aside from Valencia, all the other outs are all capable of playing both and scoring well and their replacements are just as nailed as they are.

Eriksen, Rashford, Valencia to Sane , Jesus + 1 premium defender.
Honestly i think Saints attackers could be oversold now. They re due a goal or two so holding JWP & Gabby is almost a differential.

Wenger: "Koscielny has a small chance"

That's enough for me to lump all in on Holding

But will he play both games?

It's him or Gibbs who drops out (ignoring the possibility of Monreal being rested at some stage). I'd rather have less capital tied up in the gamble and already have Mustafi. Nobody else under 4.8 to replace Pieters really

Arsenal defence dilemma is dominating the posts this morning

This is how I see the options:

If Kosc PLAYS (who has "a small chance" of being fit) then the current back 5 would surely be:

      A) Bellerin - Kosc - Mustafi - Monreal - Gibbs

However, he could favour Holding and put Monreal out as wing back:

      B) Bellerin - Holding - Kosc - Mustafi - Monreal

So Kosc playing puts EITHER Holding or Gibbs at risk (I'd say Holding more likely)

If Kosc NOT fit (which seems likely), Bellerin just comes in for Ox:

      C) Bellerin - Holding - Mustafi - Monreal - Gibbs

On this basis, both Holding and Gibbs are safe for the 1st game

As concluded already, I think Monreal & Mustafi are safe but Gibbs is my next preference at a bargain price

Unless of course he scraps the back 5, but I don't think he will.

Nice, a lot riding on Gibbs this week for me

I don't think Gibbs is safe at all, but definitely plays if Koscielny is out.

You think Holding will stay in then and Monreal plays wing back?

Gibbs has played last 4 games, Holding only the last 2

Unless he switches to back 4 but I doubt this

Who is more nailed in defense for United

      A) Tuanzebe
      B) Jones

Or any other suggestion for a defense costing 4.5 or less ( already have holding)

When choosing the Kosc replacement, it's hard to ignore a guy whose name is spoken Must-Have-He surely?

      Anyone going Kane (C)?

      - Going for golden boot
      - Spurs playing a depleted United team
      - last game at WHL carnival atmosphere
      - Explosive

I can't see United conceding all that many really, 0-0 or 1-0 is my guess.

Is losing Haz for a City mid really a wise thing to do if you're leading? Already have Jesus

For a hit, no. Otherwise (and assuming no more work needed elsewhere) I think it's a good move

I'm in the same boat. Leading by 35 points and rival has gone Haz to KDB but he doesn't have Jesus. Not sure if to follow suit with a city mud or hold Haz for a hit. What's your lead?

Same boat for sure. My lead is 40 points. I'm reluctant to lose Haz as he could haul in the last game. I also have Eriksen and would be more inclined to lose him for KDB but would need to take a hit and downgrade someone else.

Bad K of the two but I'd be tempted to keep him in given the motivation to win.

Which of this is a good idea.....

      De bruyne in for Sanchez
      OR
      De Bruyne in for Hazard

Possibly the 2nd one but I'm not 100% sure it's wise

was thinking the same. Hazard gets subbed off at 70ish if Chelsea are controlling the game.

And if they win at Brom, he may be dropped for the second game

Neither. Unless you are chasing. In which case haz but you must (c) KDB.

I have Jesus as well. And im using my Triple cap.

was not sure between KDB or Jesus
