A Marouane Fellaini goal helps Manchester United to the Europa League final – a match in which key defender Eric Bailly will take no part after he is sent off at Old Trafford.

That could mean extra league involvement for the centre-half in a United side otherwise subject to major rotation ahead of that late-May final.

Here’s the Scout Notes from a night of intrigue and golden chances missed.

Manchester United 1 Celta Vigo 1 (United win 2-1 on aggregate)

Manchester United’s 12th 1-1 draw of the season was one of the more lively ones, with red cards and late Celta Vigo misses contributing to an anxious Old Trafford finish.

Marouane Fellaini headed home from a superb Marcus Rashford cross – a goal that should have settled first-half nerves.

But the Spaniards were twice the craven team of the first leg, dominating possession and creating a number of chances throughout.

Once the visitors had finally equalised, United were left clinging on to their aggregate lead and survived courtesy of Celta’s profligacy – most notably when striker John Guidetti missed a golden opportunity with effectively the last kick of the tie.

But they will go into the final on Wednesday, May 24, without centre-half Eric Bailly.

The Ivorian was sent off following a mini-melee, opening up the intriguing possibility that the 9.0%-owned defender could now play all three of United’s league matches in a run-in he would otherwise have expected to be used sparingly.

A double Gameweek 37 starts hard, away at Spurs, and then eases to Southampton at St Mary’s before a final day home match with Crystal Palace rounds off the domestic season – just three days before the Europa League final in Stockholm.

Should he feature heavily in the league, Bailly could be expected to score well at the heart of a defence that’s kept five clean sheets in the last six matches.

But with United now just one match from Champions League qualification, doubts over the make-up and motivation of Jose Mourinho’s teams from here on in will involve many more players than just Bailly.

The coach started the same XI in both legs of the semi-final. If that is his Europa League template, then the likes of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and the fit-again Juan Mata could be in for a busy end to the domestic campaign.

United, however, are turning few heads with their attacking prowess at the moment – they’ve scored just one goal in their last three Gameweeks.

Decent Fantasy returns, therefore, are likely to come from more defensive outlets, if at all, with the 34.3%-owned David de Gea a solid candidate.

United have eyes only for Europe now. Fantasy managers would be wise to look far closer to home – a view that takes in precious few of Mourinho’s men.

Manchester United XI: Romero, Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Darmian, Fellaini, Herrera, Pogba, Mkhitaryan (Carrick 77), Rashford (Smalling 89), Lingard (Rooney 86).
Subs not used: de Gea, Jones, Mata, Martial.

With Koscielny a major doubt looks like I'll just have to switch him to Monreal as my transfer.

Wanted to do Hazard to KDB...but not sure that's worth a hit. Besides Hazard should play twice in the next three at least and It'd be a shame to miss out on him v Sunderland GWK 38.

Monreal more nailed by the looks of it - can play LWB and CB in a three. Holding could be at risk if Kosc returns for the second match - or even makes the first. Wenger says Ox is fatigued not injured - so that indicates Bellrin may only get one game.

As a Cech owner having two Arsenal def is a differential enough.

It says he has a "small chance" so far from both I'd say. Could do, but big risk. I was hoping Wenger would have said - Koscielny is fine to play but it was definitely not that.

Oh, I thought he was saying that for a Sou game. Shame, wanted to save transfer after a while

Thanks for info, Kosc and Huth have to go for Monreal and Yoshida. This means you and I will have identical teams apart from my Ndidi to your King! 😉

Thoughts on Huth's possible injury Jonty? And what that could mean for Man City vs Leicester (i.e. get more City assets)?

Have to go! Tough fixtures and will concede in both games most likely..

Huth a big doubt. with him and Morgan out that could be a goal fest for City indeed - but who will score - so many attacking options at City - tricky to predict who will mop up.

Have gone through the same thought process with Hazard. I agree.

We can join the 'Hazard ditchers deserved to be punished' club when he scores a brace against WBA to clinch the title 😉

I think so too. But i need a differential, instead of Hazard to KDB. What do you think Alli and Moses out to bring in KDB and maybe Arbrighton? I have Kane, Sanches, Jesus, King.

Sorry did a mistake. to get KDB for alli need to sell King too... To risk!!

Monreal obviously the safest option but also 1.2m more expensive than Gibbs and 1.9m more than Holding.
Is that premium worth paying ?

If you have Koscielny - who is more- then getting Monreal's price is irrelevant. It is only an issue if you think you can spend 2.1m more elsewhere as part of a hit. I could upgrade Anichebe with it - but to who? No striker who is 6.4 or less appeals for the DGWK for a hit, when Anichebe will probably get 4 himself. I'd need to get a 6.4 striker who can score more than 8 pts.

Why not Mustafi? He should play both, just returned from injury, won't be rested

      RE Hazard.
Im keeping him for that reason. Chealsea field day against Sunderland in 38 and Hazard could be a big part of that.

For that reason im uping my hit from 8 to 12 to accomodate KDB. Tadic the man to go in this...

      Gibson,Gabriel,Tadic,Gabbiadini > Stephens,Gibbs,KDB,Anichibe.

this means i can keep all my big hitting midfielders.
      Sanchez,Hazard,Alli,KDB

If I sell Hazard he'll haul, if I keep he'll blank. Still getting over selling him just before he went on that five goal spree early new year!

I'll keep then and have 2 FT's next week.

I know WBA have difficult fixtures but does anyone think Brunt is worth a punt just for possible attacking returns over two games?

I've transferred him out. He's bound to score or assist now.

I think captaining is extremely difficult this GW. It's between Hazard and Sanchez for me.

Who do you think will get more points this week... Emre Can or Albrighton? And is Can to albrighton (or a 5.4 mid) worth a -4?

      Albrighton and probably not
