The Sky Sports Fantasy Football game for 2017/18 was officially launched on Wednesday.

This time around, the top prize has been doubled to a substantial £50,000 – incentive enough to assemble a team in time for kick-off on August 11.

It’s also worth noting that Sky Sports have introduced a handful of tweaks to their rules and scoring system for 2017/18.

We take a look at the main implications below…

Overhaul

Without doubt, Sky Sports’ biggest bombshell for this season is the new Overhaul feature, as described in the rules section on the site:

“For 2017/18 we have introduced our new Overhaul feature. You will be able to take advantage of Overhaul twice this season; once in September and the other taking place in February. During these weeks, you will be able to make an unlimited amount of transfers but must remain within the budget of £100 million. These transfers will not come out of your 40-player transfer limit.â€

Akin to FPL’s wildcard, this new feature looks set to shape the way that Fantasy managers will play the game, with initial team selection likely to be heavily focused on the opening few weeks.

By using the Members ticker feature here on Fantasy Football Scout, you can stack up on the teams with favorable fixtures from the get-go.

Captain Scheduling

One of Sky Sports’ biggest draws is the multi-captain angle and, thankfully, it’s here to stay for the season ahead.

They have, however, rolled out a scheduling feature to help Fantasy managers keep on top of mid-Gameweek swaps – you can now pick your captain for each matchday ahead of time to avoid last-minute Wi-Fi related panics.

The Scoring System

There is just one tweak here, though it’s a welcome one that should help improve the prospects of defenders.

“Defenders will now only start to receive -1 point per goal conceded after the first goal they let in.â€

Shipping just one goal now means defenders hold on to their two appearance points rather than dropping to one as in previous years. Defenders from the lesser teams are therefore likely to hold more appeal than before and could begin to represent decent value for the season ahead.

Weekly Articles and Podcast

We’re delighted to announce that we will be back supporting the Sky Sports game with weekly articles again for 2017/18.

This begins with our pre-season coverage.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be providing Player Price List analysis articles, Man of the Match analysis and much more.

Also, I’ll be talking through the week’s action and upcoming plans with FFS posters Buffrey and Lewis on our regular podcast – the latest episode can be found here.

There will also be a new community article to exclusively deal with Sky Sports Fantasy teams.

Those looking to get involved should click this link.

Scout League

Of course, we have already set up our Fantasy Football Scout League and after winning the League of Leagues for each of the last four seasons, we’re looking to defend our crown in 2017/18.

Get your teams in – the name is FFScout and the pin number to join is 8300422.

    Lacazette has right price
Straight in my team. All arsenal attack is focused on him !
He wil be 12 next season 😉

      Good price.

Need to wait and see on Sanchez first, though, as I would rather have him and if so, I won't want Lacazette.

No problem with his price and I expect him to do well and will definitely own him at some point but I prefer Kane, Lukaku and Jesus for the start. Probably only two of them. That heavy front three leaves the rest of the team unbalanced and I definitely want a premium mid or two.

I want all kane, lacazette and kin/jesus
Only problem is I rate kun but he will come 1.5 more expensive
        Jesus may play right side

13.0, 12.5, 10.5: 36 mil minimum... Much rather save the 1.5 in a team with that much up front. Not saying a "Superior Firepower" (TM) strategy isn't viable, but that 1.5 could be the difference between
          5.5 5.0 4.5 4.5 4.0 and
          4.5 4.5 4.5 4.5 4.0

Always been set of having two 4.5m goalies at the start of the season that rotate nicely. With the heavy hitters last season going up in price, it will he hard to fit in a 5.0 keeper imo.

Might be different definitions of price fairness, but for me it means right on the edge of affordability, making it a real debate whether or not to select the player because of the knock on effect to the rest of your squad.

Anything cheaper or lower is too easy and too comfortable, imo.

  15. Waxys

Well most I was willing to go for Lacazette was 10 no worries Ozil will happily replace him at a much cheaper price, I just need Lacazette to score from Ozil's assists.

Anyway how's this team looking so far?

As it stands my Forward Line is composed of Jesus or Aguero depends on pre season and formations, Kane for obvious reasons and Rooney as he's cheap ( presumably ) and likely to move to Everton to start as striker.

Mids I haven't decided yet except for Ozil and Hazard, and a cheap one like King. Salah needs to convince me first he could flop like at Chelsea.

Defenders im looking at Kompany so far for his goal scoring record and iron defence. Alonso for his goals and assists and a defender on the cheap. Like Yoshida or Stephens

My goalkeeper will be Lloris 100% with a cheap backup keeper I just don't trust Spurs defensive rotation with Walker and trippier anymore.

    1. Witty Pun: Not good at this…
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 4 days ago

Why would Rooney be cheap? I was thinking around 8.0 for him, especially if the Everton deal is closed before prices are out

Agreed. Kane Aguero Jesus is likely to cost minimum 33.0, no chance Hazard and Ozil could fit with them in one team

Ozil will have a price drop I'll just compromise on the defence if need be Alonso is a premium option I may just get Davies if he's nailed on and Courtiois for my Kelsey coverage over Alonso.

This team is within my price range I've done the maths. Assuming my price drops and raised prices assumption are relatively close.

Now Knockaert 6.0 is a bit of a surprise. Matamatics predicted it when we looked at him (http://whogottheassist.com/posts/421) but I didn't agree, based on the fact that last year the ceiling for promoted mids was 5.5 (Markovic, Snoddy, Fischer - Brady when he signed for Bur).

I think that's a good price though and to be expected. Depending on Mooy and Ritchie's price, as well as Gross I'm keen to get Knockaert in....easy to downgrade to say Gross if he can't bring his Championship form into the PL.

Considering his high points threshold last season I took a punt on 5.5....he's a rare beast of offering CS and save points and scored very highly for a keeper....better than the likes of Lloris or DDG.

His 5.0 tag indicates that FPL think he will regress this season. He performed like a 5.5 gk last season, 5.0 shows they don't think that will happen again.

I hope not. If Courtois, Lloris and De Gea were 5.0, then it will be too easy to forget about every other keeper.

If that is true then all the outfield players will be put up in price to compensate.

Releasing the price on a reclassified player would stir it up a bit

I'd say Milner is a better left back than Robertson going off last season.

      Interesting. Thinking something like:

      Butland (2.9)
      Francis (2.8) Stephens (2.6) Holgate (2.9)
      Eriksen (5.5) Coutinho (5.4) Siggy (4.8) Pogba (4.6) Sane (4.9)
      Kane (7.0) Lukaku (6.6)

Sad news regarding Bradley Lowrey who's just passed away after his battle with cancer.Heart goes out to his family. Also have to say Jermaine Defoe has shown himself to be a true hero for the kid these last few months. Two truly remarkable people.
