In addition to the recent raft of player price reveals, earlier today Fantasy Premier League announced that they have introduced a new chip ahead of this week’s launch.

While the two wildcards, Triple Captain and Bench Boost chips remain intact, All Out Attack has belatedly been given the elbow, replaced by a brand new “Free Hit†chip.

Essentially, the Free Hit can be used once in a season and allows you to make unlimited changes to your entire 15-man squad for a single Gameweek.

Once the deadline for that Gameweek has passed, though, you squad immediately reverts to the previous line-up.

It’s important to note that you cannot use this chip to play the market to your advantage.

Any value gained/lost by those players drafted in as temporary new additions will not effect your squad.

This only applies to new players acquired on the Free Hit chip.

Ie, if you already have Alexis Sanchez in your original squad and choose to keep him on your Free Hit Chip, then his price would still be subject to fluctuation.

So if you have any players plummeting in value in your original squad, playing the Free Hit chip won’t stop their price drops from being taken off your budget.

Of course, if you choose to use transfers or the Wildcard instead, you’d avoid those drops in cost and earn the appropriate value from any rises.

Arguably, then, the Free Hit chip could be used to help temporarily trade out injured and/or banned players that you ultimately want to retain. If they’re seen as expendable, a transfer out is perhaps the best solution.

Like the second Wildcard, Triple Captain and Bench Boost chips, the Free Hit chip could be used when planning for Double Gameweeks in order to maximise the number of players with two fixtures.

A specific example of this would be Double Gameweek 27 last year, where Stoke City and Manchester City were the only teams to play twice.

Despite knowing that both sides blanked in Gameweek 28, many managers took points hits to bring in the likes of Sergio Aguero and also played their Triple Captain chip on the Argentine.

The Free Hit chip would have allowed us to temporarily acquire City and Stoke assets without the need to tear apart our teams, while also navigating the upcoming blank more efficiently.

However, it could also be used as a reactionary chip.

Although this may be a helpful tool as a quick fix when your squad is hit by injury and suspension, it could ultimately come in handier when utilised on those Gameweeks hit hard by FA Cup postponements.

We witnessed this last season in the afore-mentioned Gameweek 28, where only four fixtures went ahead.

Bournemouth’s Josh King was the star turn that day, serving up a season-high 18-point return at home to West Ham.

The Norwegian had bagged four goals in as many matches prior to that fixture but, with many managers choosing to be prudent with their points hits, he was drafted in by just over 141,000 for Gameweek 28 and selected by only 252,000+.

With the option of a Free Hit chip, King would surely have been a major player in far more squads for a Gameweek that also saw the likes of Everton and Liverpool participate.

As this comment from Lateriser in this morning’s Hot Topic also pointed out, though, the Free Hit Chip could also help take advantage of big fixture swings and help you load up on sides with very appealing fixtures.

In that respect, it could be viewed as more subjective and dependent on the players you hold and state of your squad in any given Gameweek.

Certainly, when assessed against the merits of the All Out Attack chip, the new Free Hit chip looks a far more useful addition and one that should afford a greater degree of tactical variety from FPL managers over the course of 2017/18.

I reckon FPL didn't foresee him playing as a mid last year when they priced him as a def.

Mids are more expensive than def in general.

I know, I get that. But if you were to price him as a defender for the 2017/18 season, what would you price him as?
          5.0, maybe 5.5 at a push? Definetely not 6.0

Maybe this just proves that expensive defenders have more value than cheaper wingers.

They are pricing compared to Ince, Knockaert etc. The real fodder is at 4.5 and 5m.

I understand that. I guess what I got from this whole comparison is that investing in a 5.5 defender will probably be more beneficial than investing in a 5.5 midfielder unless that said mid has a rare breakout season like Mahrez.

It's impossible for the FPL to win really isn't it?

In previous years there would have been no indication of a release date and no information given beforehand. People moaned there wasn't enough communication.

Now they give us the week it's going to release a while in advance. They then give us some information so that it's not all news when the game launches. People moan the game isn't launched.

People also act like the two are mutually exclusive, like the game isn't being launched because of the teases. If you didn't have the teases the game still wouldn't be released, it will be different teams working on both.

        Seems reasonable.
Don't see why it needs to be "week commencing" 10th July... why can't they just give a date, and then everyone would chill?
Games that require A LOT more development than this free web based game, games like, I dunno, Grand Theft Auto V or something, don't have a "the game will be out some time in the next 7 days" release date. It's bull.

True true - big Destiny fan myself, will be gutted if the release of Destiny 2 gets pushed back. I understand your point.
However - there are ways they can appease us - like how video games release open beta's or demos' - a nice equivalent of this for FPL would be a full price list 😉 evidently they have one already.

Haha it's amazing how people react when they don't get what they want (myself included). People like poor old Jules Breach who tweeted earlier in the summer saying "it'll be July 10th" getting a lot of grief as her word was taken as gospel.

I think the issue lay in lack of specificity. If they said "game will be released on [DATE]" then I think they couldn't avoided this issue, as uncertainty can cause negative cognitive effects and lead to the kind of behaviours we've been seeing. But hey, I'm just a behavioural scientist, what do I know? 😉

Some really gloomy people on here really moody and gloomy they need to lighten up and have some fun with posts outside conventional thinking encourages CIVIL debate

Rooney is an English legend who is coming back to first team football we should all be happy. Maybe those people aren't happy because he has more trophies as a player than some clubs have in their entire history .

Just a problem with the mentality of people right now they're so quick to talk trash about players and managers whenever they hit a rough patch but are quick to complain that players these days aren't loyal.

obviously I have my reasons for thinking the way I do about players But I guess it's much easier to label someone with a different opinion es thats all it is a different opinion a troll rather than debate facts or why it is or isn't so.

        Not really.

I posted some interesting facts about him and some reasons for why he may be a viable pic for teams. And they just blindly disagree and continue to claim he's past it after two seasons of poor management.

Di Maria and Mkhitarian both had amazing seasons prior to being managed by these two managers respectively.

Why do you want them to agree with you? If you keep on posting this again and again, they'll just make stupid comments to have a great laugh at your expense. That is annoying for other users who come here to have fun. It's also not good for the site. Hope you understand it.

Because I'm looking for reasons why they think that way as I gave reasons for why I think that way such as stats and articles.

I'm looking to improve my fantasy game so if someone can tell me why rooney wouldn't be a good sky KGB with reasons I'm open to that and being convinced.

Instead it's just troll responses this is a discussion forum is it not?

Waxys, people are just expecting a trend that has spanned several seasons to continue. As such, they will be inclined to ignore any underlying statistics you show them. You could be right, you could be wrong. The fact is, however, that most people don't really give a toss about it right now

        Nope

I confirmed he would be an undisputed starter for Everton.

That he will be a striker and his intent to work hard to be ready for the World Cup.

Prior to that all I said was his pace has not declined as much as people would think. As journalist uear he was the 8th fastest footballer in the world.

And I just give my reasons for why he's a good fantasy prospect.

I've had 'tis reaction for a while I say I like joe hart and he's great I'm a troll, I think David Moyes fits west ham im a troll much.

Good for you then...If he does well you will fly the rankings and we will lose face for not trusting you..

But from your repeated commented seems that you are afraid that his low ownership will kill your OR.

I don't think you can't blame someone for not trusting Rooney from the beginning.. He has been a legend for Man Utd and he we will be even after his career comes to an end.

But the sensible thing to do is just wait to see him first.

Ya the arguments have been, Rooney has been off form with the last 2 seasons. You can blame management all you want but at the end of the day he's a professional and it's his own responsibility. Sure he could bang some goals in for Everton but people might by him after they see him line out.

Il worry about that next season

  19. Triple Captain – captain gets 3x score instead of 2x – simple and self-explanatory
Bench Boost – bench players points count – simple and self-explanatory
Free Hit – needs a massive article to explain it and even then there are massive questions unanswered – name is completely misleading also. FPL FAIL.

      Seems simple to me

      1. Explain it fully to me in one sentence and convince me then 🙂

A loan version of a wildcard

          1. Yeah - that fully explains it perfectly and answers all unanswered questions - nice one 😆

It does if you don't assume anything and ask unecessaty questions and take it at face value

'A temporary wildcard valid for one gameweek .'

The title is fine. Every chip needs an explanation.

What constitutes all out attack? Could be 0 defenders.

What is triple captain? Do I select 3 captains?

What is bench boost? Can I add a player from my bench to my starting lineups?

I think people just complain for the same of complaining no matter what.
Even if it's a positive change there will be a guide when the game is released and I think this chip is a welcome addition and solved the issue of blanks

"Free Hit" and "Loan Version of a Wildcard" are entirely different. If anything, free hit suggests you can take a hit before a gameweek and use the chip to remove the -4 from taking a hit.

The title is misleading but there's an explanation offered just by clicking the title.

The explanation is simple enough for anyone to understand.
I just summarised the chip in a sentence,

              2. Of course they need explanations, but they should be a sentence and easy to understand, rather than requiring a manual, which this chip seems to need as the lengthy article explaining it doesn't fully explain it.

I understand the AOA chip generally served no purpose at all and needed to be ditched but it did not need replacing with anything imo

In another season or two once everyone has realised this is the biggest load of bollocks something else will take it's place

Not sure why you need answers before the game is open. No doubt all will be revealed in more detail in the FAQ's and rules.

      1. It shouldn't need explaining though - that's the point. Chips are supposed to encourage the casual, not baffle them.

I'm kind of with Jarvish on this one. I'm pretty sure a man of his intellect and ability to get to any number under a thousand from 'two from the top row and four from anywhere else please Rachel' is not that difficult to get his massive head around. But it isn't a simple chip like the others. When I first saw 'free hit' I thought it would allow me to make an extra transfer for free - nothing about it being more than that and it would automatically revert back but some of my transfer gains would count and others wouldn't etc etc. It is a deviation from the simple game that FPL used to be.

    IT'S LAUNCHED!!!!

India launched a new rocket this week, extending the country’s ability to place larger payloads into orbit. Until now, India had depended on buying launch slots from other countries and organisations, using the European Space Agency’s Ariane 5 rocket, for example.

Haha yes 🙂 I read a couple of reviews, plus you have the feedback from end users too (admittedly on the amazon website).

I think it'll be useful in the kitchen to play music, news, provide recipes etc. Had a £20 amazon gift card so it came down to £60 today. I'd have tried the Dot but want to also use it as a speaker to play music, so the Echo seems better for that purpose.

Yeah, I use an echo in the living room & a dot in the bedroom. They control the lighting, heating & entertainment. Great timers for cooking, alarms for the morning etc. Speaker quality is good enough for me. Shopping list and to do lists work well. Still frustrating at times when she stumbled over the simplest thing. On balance after getting on launch wouldn't be without.

I presume they don't want to announce date & time as everyone and their dog will jump on the site at the same time.
If I were them I'd do the same thing.
It's a new version of the game and If the load is incremental they'll have more time to react to malfunctions on the ramp up.

Not even the best English RB. Clyne is so underrated

will keep an eye if he gets a transfer in that case, a defender with attacking returns in a very attacking team could be gold

Good on him. He's world class and needs to be a guranteed starter if pep can't gurantee that then fine alves will move elsewhere pep's loss
