Wednesday’s release of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game means we’re now ready to officially launch our Projections and Rate My Team tool. Both have been updated and are available in our Members Area.

Members can get access to these areas via the menu bar and start putting both to use in their pre-season selections.

Once the season starts, members will be able to enter their FPL IDs to add their current squads. Until that point, squads can be built using the Build My Team feature. Once a team is built, it can be saved and shared by bookmarking the URL.

We will be tweaking this numbers on a daily basis as new players enter the game and as the summer friendlies reveal more on likely starting line-ups and tactics.

Once again this term, the projections are based on the Rate My Team statistical model, developed by Chris Atkinson.

Below you’ll find an FAQ on our Projections and Rate My Team, plus links to movies with Chris that talk you through the functionality of the tool and even the methods that go into building and maintaining it week on week.

Access to these tools requires membership and these are available for the pre-season price of Β£12.50 (RRP Β£15.00). Registered users can upgrade their accounts via this link, while new users can register as members here.

View this page for full details on all our benefits for members.

How do I use the Projections?
Crucially, these tables can be used as another opinion-former when comparing players. Every player is rated for goals, assists, clean sheets etc based on values created by the “Rate My Team” statistical model – the values returned for each player are the expected values in accordance with its calculations.

A good way of thinking about them is to consider them average values for each player. If the season was played out 500 times, the values you’ll find in these projection tables are the average that the model would expect the player to score in each Gameweek.

One of the most useful aspects of the Projections is the value column. You can sort by this to find the best value (Points Per FPL Million) delivered by players in each position.

With tables for the season and the opening six Gameweeks, you can get a view on long-term and short-term returns and value.

What are these values based on?
The Rate My Team statistical model is a complex beast – it uses historical data stretching back a number of seasons and, of course, specific player and team data.

When generating the player values, the model looks at the specific fixture in each Gameweek, assessing the strength of both teams before calculating the likely team goals scored and how these goals will translate to specific player stats. The probability of a player taking part in the match is also a key ingredient – factors such as rotation, injuries and suspensions are taken into account and fed into the algorithm.

When will these Projections be updated?
We will update the projections almost each day during pre-season. As we get more data on likely first choice line-ups and as the transfer market moves to cast doubt over starters, we will adapt and tweak the model accordingly. A new player can have a major impact on the projections and Rate My Team, influencing the projected output of his new team-mates.

The projections will also be updated throughout the season – again, almost on a daily basis, providing a week by week view of what the model expects each player to score for the remaining Gameweeks to help guide your selections and transfers. Major updates are made on both Tuesday and Friday in order to build the latest team news into the numbers.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves.

The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match, with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member, you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. You have a players’ table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Once the season starts, Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL line-up, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and order of substitutes and allow you to model your future transfers.

How Accurate is Rate My Team?
We’re not going to try and claim that Rate My Team is X% accurate – we’ve never attempted to track a figure, focusing our efforts on keeping the tool up to date to serve those who use it.

Instead what we will say that both Tom Fenley and Simon March were members of Fantasy Football Scout and also used Rate My Team – Tom and Simon were, as many will know, FPL champions in 2014/15 and 2013/14.

We’ve previously created a number of movies, together with the creator of Rate My Team Chris Atkinson, which explain the tools in full detail. You can view these below.

      C) Redmond (unless it looks like he's being shafted in preseason)

Not sure it really matters unless you're concerned about taking up a WBA spot in the team? If you think Foster will get more points than other 4.5 keepers, I don't see how the fact you have another WBA player will change that.

Will you ever be rotating de gea? If not, then elliot instead. I'd use the money to upgrade Daniels to trippier. I'm personally not mad on Pedro or defoe but I see the appeal. I'd prefer coutinho to firmino but again I see the appeal

I think Firmino needs to be upgraded with salah coming into the team and stealing more points from Firmino along with the fact he gets less point than his teammates from scoring a goal. Maybe Dawson to yedlin/mee, Pedro to Willian, and downgrading Defoe/Zaha, in order to do Firmino to laca/Jesus??

Aguero seems a favourable option on here but don't forget Peps dislike for his type of play making him more prone to rotation. Also, Jesus thrives much better than Aguero in Peps style of play and Pep loves him much more than he likes Aguero. Just saying to those thinking Aguero is a better option than Jesus. IMO Jesus has the same opportunity as Aguero if not better to score more goals than him this season, and still being a whole 1mil less than him.

Aguero started the last 7 games of the season, with Jesus fit, scoring 6 goals and an assist.

During those 7 games, Jesus started 5 times, scoring 4 goals and 2 assists.

Aguero has been seeking assurances about his role from Pep. As he's still at City, he got those assurances.

I assume this has already been discussed but one downside with the new chip is whether you "lose" a week of transfers for your regular team, or whether the transfer you don't do that week rolls over and you get two the week after (unless you already had 2). It says:

"At the next deadline your squad is returned to how it was at the start of the Gameweek."

This could potentially be a bit of a pain if you are trying to build towards an upcoming DGW. You could also miss out on price rises for a player you want or lose money in a player in your team.

Really like actually, maybe fabregas to Willian and that is near perfect. Ramsey is nailed in the centre of midfield and most likely Sane is as well with city starting with a Jesus Aguero Sane frontline. If Austin is nailed that is a great team.

Is Özil really that expensive? It all depends if we see last years Özil or the Özil from the 15/16 season.

Will be interesting to see how the signing of Lacazette will impact Özil's return.

People carried him through his injury where every week was a "will he, won't he play". He had his hot streak and could early on with the fixtures. Still a Pulis player and decent options at 6m and a touch higher.

Utd should tell them to get stuffed?

Give me Tony Martial all day. He just needs the right manager to develop him. Utd would be making a mistake letting him go. They'd end up re-signing him for £100m.

Martial and Perisic are both good players but Martial is better 4 sure

I have no idea why utd would want to sell martial anyway. The guy is an absolute baller

Would be laughable to give up on Martial.

It's BS, Sabatini simply said that they're open to counter offers with player rather than just money but he didn't mention anyone and he also said that United hasn't offered any players in exchange for Perisic for now.

United won't get rid of Martial and definitely not for Perisic. Plus Inter needs money for Di Maria.

Hands off Martial!! He was involved in 47.6% of goals last season!! Second to Ibra I think.

Had another go at a team,

Heaton / Foster (Burnley/West Brom rotate well, and its not the template Fabianski, and I have a Swansea defender, see below, plus there were times last season I'd wish I made Heaton captain each week and forgot about it)

Milner / Kompany as the mainstays, my only Liverpool cover.

Then a "posh" triple rotation of Palace/Bournemouth/Swansea - Van Aanholt, Mawson and Ake - in theory one of these three each week, but strong enough if the other two pick up injuries or have tricky away encounters.

    Eriksen / Sane / Willian / Pogba / RLC

Bit budget, could have gone Alli, but I think Eriksen is a "safer" if less explosive option.

    Lacazette / Rooney / Gabbadini

Rooney a gamble, and hey, the team's called Purpe Wayne, Lacazette obvious, and the Saints fixtures are too good to ignore - it might be possible to go Ward Prowse and someone else?

    Foster | Begovic
Lindelof Dawson Cedric Trippier | Rangel
Pogba Ozil Alli | Loftus-Cheek Romeu
    Lukaku Benteke Jesus

    Any suggestions welcome

Liverpool defence cheaper and will hopefully have VvD in it as well as better protection in midfield

If Liverpool do sign VvD, I think the Liverpool defence will be a lot more appealing.

I wouldnt rule it out. Liverpool had 4 out of 4 clean sheets in May. Money saved could be used better in other positions

Milner in the first two but if they sign a new LB then no other Liverpool DF. I might get Trippier in that case, IF Spurs doesn't sign a new starting RB, although i think their defense will take a few GWs to be fully functional.

Not too keen on him from the get go. I would like to see how Bournemouth overall play with King and Defoe before getting one of them.

Fixtures are a bit mixed but I can see goal/s v wba,WAT and BHA in his first five

Firmino at 0.5 more tempting me though

I do like the new feature that allows you to view other players squads.

Mark's team looking tasty. Ronka seems to be going maverick.

Still not sure why they've made it an option - should make it open for all, or not at all
