Tom Ince hits his third goal of pre-season as Huddersfield Town lose in Germany, while a Stefano Okaka strike is enough for Watford to seal their first victory of the summer.

Here are Tuesday’s notes.

SV Sandhausen 3 Huddersfield Town 2

Summer recruit Tom Ince scored for the third consecutive match as Huddersfield slumped to a 3-2 defeat against their Bundesliga 2 opponents.

The midfielder, currently one of only three Terriers players enjoying more than 2% Fantasy Premier League ownership, curled home from the edge of the area after coming on at half-time.

Pre-season goalscoring exploits always need to be taken with a generous measure of salt – Burnley’s Andre Gray (9 goals) being a prime example last summer – but Ince’s form is welcome for those of us looking for an asset to exploit Huddersfield’s kindly start to the season (pal, NEW, SOT, wham, LEI, bur).

Elsewhere, club record signing, Benin forward Steve Mounie, was also on the scoresheet – his second goal in as many matches since his move from Montpellier.

Both goals were set up by Rajiv van La Parra.

The match was rather less memorable for defender Martin Cranie, who was brought on after 54 minutes and promptly had a hand in two of the German side’s goals, including the concession of the penalty that proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Town coach David Wagner again stuck to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation and made a raft of changes at both half-time and on the hour-mark.

But a number of players remain unavailable to him. Tommy Smith (foot), Nahki Wells (ankle), Jon Gorenc Stankovic (knee) and Michael Hefele (Achilles) are injured, while Aaron Mooy is still on extended leave following Australia’s participation in the Confederations Cup. Meanwhile, Scott Malone suffered a knock and was forced off on 40 minutes.

Huddersfield Town XI: Lossl (Coleman 46); Scannell (J Williams 46), Jorgensen (Edmonds-Green 75), Schindler (Cranie 46), Malone (Lowe 41); Hogg (van La Parra 60), Whitehead (D Williams 60); Kachunga (Billing 60), Palmer (Lolley 46), Quaner (Ince 46); Depoitre (Mounie 60).

Viktoria Plzen 0 Watford 1

A Stefano Okaka goal 10 minutes from time handed Watford their first victory of pre-season.

The striker, currently the Hornets’ only fit first team forward, scored from close range having been set up new signing Will Hughes.

The former Derby County midfielder had been handed 20 minutes by coach Marco Silva to make a good first impression, and he did just that.

Silva again employed a 4-2-3-1 formation in a match in which neither goalkeeper was overly busy, but right-back Brice Dja Djédjé at least caught the eye, coming on at half-time and impressing in an unfamiliar role on the left flank.

Etienne Capoue was again deployed as part of the attacking midfield three behind the striker, with Ben Watson and Abdoulaye Doucouré occupying the roles in the double pivot.

Watford XI: Gomes (Pantilimon 60); Janmaat, Prödl, Kabasele, Holebas (Dja Djédjé 46); Watson, Doucouré; Berghuis (Amrabat 46), Capoue (Hughes 68), Success (Sinclair 68); Okaka.

Have you got another Saints defender? For example, I currently have Trippier and Cedric and am happy. If it were either/or, it would probably be a coin toss for me

Tried and tested often works best. I read somewhere that of the top 25 scoring players last season in FPL, only Ibrahimovic hadn't played in FPL before.

I personally do have Lacazette but I can understand people being wary at first.

first, it's not an excuse, Premierleague has millions of stories when players don't adapt. But this year there's good competition between premium strikers and still Lacazette sits on 3rd place.

Cheaper goalkeepers tend to get more save points, and that's where the real value comes from. Keepers are generally the best value players in the game because of the save pts. There is generally a relatively small gap between 5.5m keepers and 4.5m keeper pts because of this.

That million would go further elsewhere imo.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm a seasoned player, so I know this is the consensus. Don't think that Foster will have the same amount of saves and bonus as Heaton though, and WBA cs record is kind of overrated.

Begovic and Elliot. But waiting for confirmation on Elliot and how the other teams are set-up.

I am thinking about goalkeepers like Hennessey, Gomes and Ryan. But we need to monitor their tactics in pre-season.

Thanks for your replies, guys. My point is that if you really want to cover chelsea CS because of ownership etc, then Courtois is the one that saves you money.
      Courtois + Dawson = 5.5 + 5 = 10.5
      Alonso / Azpi + Foster = 7 / 6.5 + 4.5 = 11.5 / 11

RMT final time for a while I think:

    Foster, Begovic
    Lindelof, Trippier, Cedric, Dunk, Mariappa
De Bruyne, Salah, Willian, Ince, Carroll
    Lukaku, Lacazette, Benteke

This will be for the first 5-6 weeks until I use my wild card. With the odd change here and there to increase value. Thank you!

I'm personally swaying towards Gayle, but I don't know where to use the extra 1.5 and I have left our Spurs attack purely because I want to see how they deal with the Wembley change before I commit to Alli as well as they are just generally slow starters.

Austin is definitely one I'm keeping tabs on. It's between him and Gayle. My concern is Gabbiadini. What about this:
            Cedric - Kolasinac
            Mariappa - Yedlin
            Benteke - Gayle/Austin?

3 in 3 for Ince so far in pre season, will keep tabs on him and may change him, but if he goes into the season with that form I'm happy to hold some faith. Feel like the potenital reward massively outweighs the risk of him.

That's why I've tried to squeeze De Bruyne in, but I have no spurs attacking cover instead (except Trippier).

Do you really need 2 premium strikers?
If you have Lukaku - Tekkers and Rooney or Gayle.

You can afford quite the midfield such as KDB - Coutinho - Ali - Willian

I think this year 2 is a minimum, I am leaning towards 3

Chelsea scored 103 goals in a season. Do you think anyone will beat that record? I can see both ManCity and Liverpool push 90+ goals this season.

Yeah I reckon City will get 100+ if things go to plan.

Could see Ramsey playing well this season player well at the back end of last season think the formation change could have rejuvenated him

I'm getting them with the hope of goals, not just assists. They love to push into the box, particularly Ramsey.

Hazard is injured for the first few weeks so Willian would step in to cover. Would have set pieces too.

Gayle and Zaha or Defoe and a 6m like Ritchie or Stanislas

Gayle and Zaha I'd think. Not too sure on Defoe this season. But I also really like the look of 6.0 Ince.
