A decidedly old school Chelsea brush aside a more youthful Arsenal in China, while Crystal Palace and West Brom get feisty in Hong Kong and Wayne Rooney scores again for Everton.

Elsewhere, there’s double rations for both Burnley and Huddersfield Town and victories for Bournemouth and Brighton.

Here’s the first set of Scout Notes from Saturday’s packed pre-season programme.

Arsenal 0 Chelsea 3

Chelsea were far too strong for Arsenal in Beijing.

Two excellent goals from Michy Batshuayi and an equally fine strike by Willian underlined the Blues’ superiority, although a touch of gloss was taken off proceedings when Pedro had to be taken off in the first half following a collision with Gunners keeper David Ospina.

The Spanish midfielder spent the night in a Chinese hospital with suspected concussion, with coach Antonio Conte not overly concerned about the seriousness of the injury.

“Pedro went to the hospital and for sure he should be okay but I think he had concussion. For this reason, our doctor preferred to take him to the hospital and check him in the right way.â€

The player himself later took to social media to reassure his fans, but he has now flown back to London for a further review while his team-mates travel on to Singapore for the rest of their pre-season tour.

Goalkeeper Willy Caballero was the only new signing to feature for Chelsea, coming on at half-time for Thibaut Courtois, but the core of last season’s title-winning squad still impressed in what was their first major match of the summer after breezing past Fulham in a behind closed doors run-out last week.

Willian (7.0) scored a hat-trick in that encounter, and the 12%-owned midfielder continued his fine form with a well-taken goal to make it 2-0 in China. His stock continues to rise at pace, presenting an obvious 7.0 solution for our midfields – at least until Eden Hazard is fit to put the Brazilian’s starting role under threat.

Batshuayi’s appeal is more difficult to justify.

He provided the assist and hit two goals of his own, curling home from an N’Golo Kante pass to open the scoring and then superbly finishing off a fast break with an excellent first-time shot from a Marcos Alonso cut-back.

The young Belgian striker will need a lot more goals to convince both Conte and Fantasy managers that he is the man to lead the Blues’ attack, however. Despite only signing late last week, the 10.0-priced Alvaro Morata already boasts 5.9% Fantasy Premier League ownership. Batshuayi (8.5) is owned by just 1.7%.

The encounter was Arsenal’s fourth of a gruelling pre-season, and it showed, with a mini-farce over the half-time introduction of Olivier Giroud – who hadn’t been named among the substitutes – an indication that this was perhaps a match too far for the Gunners.

The Frenchman did eventually get on to the pitch, replacing record signing Alexandre Lacazette, who was mainly a peripheral figure for 45 minutes – hardly encouraging for his 23.7% ownership base.

Arsenal XI: Ospina (Martinez 74); Maitland-Niles (Koscielny 46), Mertesacker (Elneny 46), Monreal (Kolasinac 46); Oxlade-Chamberlain (Willock 69), Ramsey (Nelson 69), Xhaka (Coquelin 46), Bramall (Welbeck 46); Ozil (Malen 74), Iwobi; Lacazette (Giroud 46).

Chelsea XI: Courtois (Caballero 46); Azpilicueta (Kalas 75), Luiz (Christiansen 75), Cahill (Clarke-Salter 75); Moses (Tomori 69), Kante (Scott 75), Fabregas (Pasalic 75), Alonso (Kenedy 69); Willian (Baker 75), Pedro (Boga 30); Batshuayi (Remy 69).

Crystal Palace 2 West Brom 0

Making a major issue out of finishing third in the Asia Trophy is akin to two bald men fighting over a comb.

But that didn’t stop Palace and West Brom going toe-to-toe in an ill-natured affair settled in favour of the Londoners by goals from Luka Milivojevic and Bakary Sako.

Eagles’ midfielder Wilfried Zaha spent much of the match enduring the close attentions of West Brom full-back Allan Nyom, with Palace boss Frank de Boer sufficiently displeased to suggest post-match that his man had been deliberately targeted.

â€They were looking for him, to injure him. He’s one of the exciting players in the league. I don’t want to think he’d be out for two weeks or months.â€

Tony Pulis was taking notes and storing that early shot from the Dutchman.

FPL managers will certainly be keen that Zaha is protected – part of 21.4% of squads, he is easily the side’s most-owned asset.

Elsewhere, Milivojevic continues to simmer as a budget option.

His finely finished free-kick, following an almost inevitable foul on Zaha, broke the deadlock and showcased his dead-ball prowess. The 5.0-priced Milivojevic is also the side’s penalty-taker, but is currently owned by just 0.5%.

But Milivojevic is unlikely to be considered in light of the Ruben Loftus-Cheek (4.5) option. Found in 16.2% of squads, the Chelsea loanee was given a 45-minute run-out by De Boer. Milivojevic was used as part of a three-man defence to make way for Loftus-Cheek in midfield.

The Serb was happy to comply, but still sees himself playing further up the pitch.

“He (de Boer) tried me there when we played a game against each other and it was a position that I was playing for the first time in my life. I don’t feel very comfortable there but I am there for the team and I will try and give my best for them, but my position is as a midfielder. I think I did OK but hopefully, in the future I will play as a midfielder!”

Andros Townsend was again used as a wing-back, while on the other flank Jeffrey Schlupp was preferred over Patrick van Aanholt once more.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis shrugged off suggestions that Nyom had been targeting Zaha, insisting simply that ‘Allan likes defending’.

And he had other things to worry about when Jonny Evans, who had been handed an unfamiliar midfield role, was forced off with an ankle injury, although Pulis played down the extent of the problem after the match.

“Jonny got a twist of his ankle but could have carried on and was happy to. But there was no point taking any chances, and we kept him out of it. As I have said all along, the key thing from pre-season is to avoid injuries.”

Evans’ erstwhile centre-half partner, new signing Ahmed Hegazy, played the full 90 minutes and missed a great chance when he blazed over from close range in the second half.

Crystal Palace XI: Hennessey (Speroni 46); Milivojevic (Cabaye 60), Delaney (Tomkins 60), Kelly; Townsend (Wan-Bissaka 75), Puncheon (Williams 75), Loftus-Cheek (Ward 46), Schlupp (van Aanholt 46), Zaha (Kirby 69); Benteke (Ladapo 75), Sako (Phillips 60).

West Brom XI: Foster; Dawson, Evans (Yacob 22), Hegazy, Nyom; Livermore (Field 68), Chadli (Roberts 75), Phillips (McClean 61), Rodriguez (Leko 61), Brunt (Wilson 62); Rondon (Robson-Kanu 61). Subs not used: Myhill, Harper, O’Shea, Melbourne.

KRC Genk 1 Everton 1

Wayne Rooney notched his second goal of pre-season and linked up well with new signing Sandro Ramirez, who provided a sublime assist to cap a promising Everton debut.

Another new boy, Jordan Pickford, also made his Toffees’ bow, while Mason Holgate returned to first-team action as Ronald Koeman’s men stepped up their preparations for Thursday’s Europa League tie with Slovakian outfit MFK Ružomberok.

Koeman opted for a 4-3-3 formation in which Rooney and Kieran Dowell operated either side of Sandro up front, the England eventually assuming the central role when Kevin Mirallas was introduced on the left at half-time.

The interplay between Rooney and Sandro caught the eye. Both forwards are available for 7.5 in FPL, but it is the former who has won hearts and minds thus far, with 20.7% ownership to Sandro’s 2.0%.

Another new signing, Cuco Martina, played the second half as the 4.5-priced defender attempts to secure a right-back role that currently remains very much up for grabs.

But we’ll be handed a considerably more authoritative indicator of Everton’s likely Gameweek 1 team when the Toffees take the field for Thursday’s European encounter.

Everton XI: Pickford (Stekelenburg 46); Holgate (Martina 46), Keane, Williams (Besic 73), Baines (Connolly 67); Gueye (Davies 73), Schneiderlin (Barry 67); Klaassen (McCarthy 73), Dowell (Lookman 67), Sandro (Mirallas 46); Rooney (Calvert-Lewin 79).

Portsmouth 1 Bournemouth 2

Lys Mousset and Benik Afobe scored to see off Bournemouth’s south coast rivals as boss Eddie Howe handed debuts to new signings Asmir Begovic and Jermain Defoe.

Afobe set up Mousset for the first while full-back Simon Francis was allowed to burst into the area and set up Ryan Fraser, whose mis-hit shot eventually fell to Afobe to back-heel home from close range to seal the victory.

The attacking threat of left-back Charlie Daniels has persuaded 20.2% of FPL managers to include him in their squads, making him the Cherries’ most popular pick.

He was introduced at half-time, while the 14.4%-owned Defoe was handed just over 31 minutes of action. But there was no Adam Smith, who is currently nursing a thigh problem. Francis started at right-back, with Mings at left-back.

Bournemouth XI: Begovic (Federici 59); Francis, S Cook (Worthington 46), Cargill (Ake 59), Mings (Daniels 46), Gradel (Pugh 59), Surman (Gosling 59), Arter (L Cook 59), Fraser (Ibe 59), Mousset (King 59), Afobe (Defoe 59).

Crawley Town 0 Brighton and Hove Albion 6

Premier League new boys Brighton had way too much quality for their League Two hosts Crawley Town, with six players getting on the scoresheet at the Checkatrade Stadium.

Solly March, in for the injured Anthony Knockaert on the right wing role, opened the scoring from Beram Kayal’s pass before new signing Markus Suttner’s cross was volleyed in by his former Bundesliga club team-mate Pascal Gross.

Tomer Hemed then tapped in after March hit the post and Jamie Murphy bagged the fourth from a Lewis Dunk assist.

Connor Goldson headed home a Jiri Skalak corner before Glenn Murray rounded off the scoring from the penalty spot.

Brighton lined up in a 4-2-3-1, with Chris Hughton’s back five looking suspiciously like a first choice unit. As expected, Duffy was preferred alongside Dunk with Hünemeier – a 4.0 option owned by 8% of FPL managers – replacing him on the hour mark.

Brighton XI First half: Ryan; Bruno, Duffy, Dunk, Suttner; March, Norwood, Kayal, Murphy; Gross; Hemed. Subs: Sanchez, White, Molumby.

Brighton XI Second half: Maenpaa; Rosenior, Goldson, Duffy (Huenemeier 62), Bong; Skalak, Sidwell, Stephens, LuaLua; Towell; Murray.

Burnley v Kidderminster 1-0 & v Alfreton 3-2

Burnley boss Sean Dyche opted to split his squad cross two Saturday matches in a bid to get as many players as possible a 90-minute workout.

Dyche himself went to Derbyshire to see Andre Gray net a hat-trick in a 3-2 win over Alfreton, while assistant manager Ian Woan and first team coach Tony Loughlan took charge in the 1-0 victory at Kidderminster thanks to Robbie Brady’s free-kick.

At Alfreton, James Tarkowski limped off on the half-hour mark, and Chris Long and Ben Mee also made way in the second half. The latter’s fate was of particular concern – with 13.7% ownership the defender is the most popular Burnley player in FPL.

But Dyche insisted that all three were precautionary moves.

“Jon Walters is another one we’re being careful with, he’s new to us, he’s getting used to what we do and how the team operates. We’re being cautious with him.â€

Striker Sam Vokes didn’t feature in either game, with Dyche adding:

“He got a knock on his ankle, it’s nothing major, but at this stage we’re being ultra cautious.”

Burnley XI v Kidderminster: Pope; Lowton, Ward, Westwood, Anderson; K Long, Ulvestad, Hendrick, Agyei, Brady; Barnes.
Subs: Stone, Hendrie, Leitch, Bayode, Flowers, Howarth, Metz.

Burnley XI v Alfreton: Heaton; Darikwa, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Gudmundsson, Cork, Defour, C Long, Walters; Gray.
Subs; Mitchell, Birch, Whitmore, Limb, Thomas, Chakwana, O’Neill.

Huddersfield Town v Barnsley 1-0 & v Girona 1-0

Huddersfield Town were another club to plump for two matches – a behind closed doors run-out against La Liga opponents Girona and a trip to Yorkshire rivals Barnsley.

Elias Kachunga set up Kasey Palmer’s winning goal against the Spaniards, the midfielder hitting home sweetly from 15 yards out.

At Barnsley, club record signing Steve Mounie grabbed his third goal in four matches to secure the victory.

Huddersfield’s line-up in South Yorkshire included 22-year-old Dimitri Cavaré – a right-back on trial from Ligue 1 side Rennes.

A number of players missed out altogether, including Tommy Smith (foot), Scott Malone (glute), Nahki Wells (ankle), Jon Gorenc Stanković (knee) and Michael Hefele (Achilles).

Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy is yet to play a single pre-season minute, but is now back in training having been given extended leave following his participation in the Confederations Cup.

Huddersfield Town XI v Barnsley: Lössl; Löwe, Schindler, Zanka, Cavaré; Billing (Scannell 72), Hogg; Ince, Lolley (O’Brien 82), Quaner; Mounié

Huddersfield Town XI v Girona: Coleman; Booty, Cranie, Hudson, Bunn; Williams, Whitehead; van La Parra, Palmer (Payne 60), Kachunga; Depoitre.

A second instalment of Scout Notes will be published later today after what was a hugely busy Saturday of pre-season matches.

A reminder that all the friendly results and key Scout Notes are being captured here, in our Pre-Season Guide.

I wonder what chicharito's price will be? I'd say about 8m same as Defoe and benteke. Think I might get him from around gw 3 or 4 as this gives a bit of time to look at him and get his hard first 2 fixtures out of the way

New players usually come in a bit lower than you'd expect. I hope he is around £7m - £8m.

Yeh, I think 7m would be an absolute bargain! He's a cut above the 6.5m strikers. I know it's miles off but I noticed West Ham have a glorious run of fixtures from gw 19 to 30 so I reckon he'll be in most teams then if not earlier.

Wouldn't want to double up on Soton defense despite the fixtures and Zaha over Redmond easily.

How about Daniels, Dawson, Otamendi or Clyne along with Zaha?

But B if you only want one of these chosen.

Yeah was considering Daniels but he has lost pens so not sure if worth it?

Basically happy to drop Kompany for someone 5.5 or less but just not sure who as I agree Zaha > > > Redmond

Pick best 3, any 1 from each line is a possible combo - cheers!

    Bailly (3.8) / Valencia (4.1)
    Cedric (3.2) / Bertrand (3.6)
    Willian (4.1) / Fabregas (4.2) / Salah (4.5)

TFF prices listed as reference of price differentials

      Valencia
      Cedric
      Willian

Think 6m is too much for Bailly considering he offers little goal threat and no bps

This is my worry! I would pick Lindelof but assume some rotation with Smalling?

Any particular reasons for Cedric over Bertrand though?

  4. Free Hit Chip Revisited

Now that I’ve had some time to digest the new free hit chip I’d like to share my thoughts. I'm actually really disappointed to see such a strong chip introduced. I think it goes against what a lot of us heavy planners on here all enjoy. The ability to change your entire 15 man squad is perfect for a double game week. Here is what I’m thinking:

    - Unlike using bench boost there is no need to plan ahead or play a wildcard the week before. You'll have the most up to date info on all players ahead of activating.
    - You can throw in a couple of bench fodder to make up a really strong 11. You'll only really need 1 sub for cover if you pick a solid first 11.
    - You can take a risk or two because there's no commitment to those players.

I think this chip is by far the most powerful now and has taken away the planning for at least one of the doubles this season. To balance things a little the one positive thing I will say about the chip is that maybe it now gives us a reason to consider playing the other chips in standard weeks. Am I being too harsh? What's other people’s thoughts on this?

It will help people who plan for a shorter time frame better than for those of us on here who will have their wc, transfer and chip strategy for double worked out a long time in advance.

Yep, like you, I've looked at other scenarios with this chip and new strategies have come to light.

It is powerful but, like you say, I think it also does make us reconsider the use of the other two and the second WC.

I get what you're saying about the DGW but then how much stronger will a FH DGW squad be than a squad built by the WC BB combination?

True, they have last minute information but a WC BB has at least one free transfer and we do kind of know the DGW targets in advance.

There's perhaps some advantage, but is it big? I need to look again.

Cheers for the hot topic! It's a new chip so like you I'm trying to not judge too early. Being honest though I cannot see how anyone can justify this chip not being used for a double game week. It just looks stronger than triple captain and bench boost in terms of what you can do for a single week. As we now know bench boosting 15 decent players on a double just doesn't happen and there was a lot of talk last season about now considering this chip for a standard week.

I guess my way of looking at it is I can't actually think of anything much stronger they could have given us. One of my crazy ideas for a chip was to loan in any one player for one week, regardless of team or price. FPL have given us a 15 man loan option 🙂

I think it's a great chip, I don't know what all the fuss is about.

Most said the same about BB/TC but there is still a lot of thinking/strategy involved and it helps the stronger players of the game (which is surely what we all want on here).

I still think it could be best used during a blank GW to avoid basing all of your transfers prior to it on non-blanking players. That has cost me a shedload of points in the past so I think that's what I'll do.

So you think it's best used during one of the small doubles?

I can possibly see using it in a game week with several blanks. However I think if you are talking about using it's full strength I think using it for a double game week is just that.

        Can't agree there.

Yes, every year there is a template but there are a group who go with their gut instinct in certain situations on here that separates them from the rest.

        Always has been.

I spent more time managing my team and deliberating and purring over stats than ever last season. I thought it was a season where you couldn't follow a template or herd. It was far far more difficult than that.

To succeed, you had to make difficult choices and get them right almost every other week. The season before, we could get the Leicester mob and Alli and relax on a decent tally which covered any mistakes. Last season, it was ruthless at times.

Every season is different and you can play FPL as you describe but I don't think the winner is going to be saying that he/she succeeded by forming a template and following the mass opinion. He or she will need to do far more than that.

Will team value still be crucial to getting the most out of this chip? Ie can you transfer players in exactly same way as your wildcard? so if your selling value is 104 that is how much you have to spend? or will it be set at 100m?

confusion is because of the price freezes of your existing players

I like the chip, but agree completely it will give casuals even more of an advantage

I can understand it though, they want to keep more people playing the game for longer and it's still a lot less arbitrarily lucky than the triple captain chip. which I utterly detest.

where I do like it is this

there will probably only be two serious doubles again and this will mean a muddying of the waters with potentially all four chips having to be used in a five week stretch between 33 and 37

All out attack was just garbage and the skill now will be which of these power chips to use at what time

As mentioned above, I agree the one positive to having this strong chip is that it does now mean we can consider triple captain or bench boost outside of a double.

I'm not sure I'd use the chip in a dgw as I then wont be able to use either BB or TC, which I prefer.

I'd most likely use it in a cut down gw where a few of the top teams are missing, though this still makes a point you made valid. There will be no reason to plan for, lets say, last seasons gw28(I think) as we all could field 11 then(the best possible 11).

Disclaimer, I have no intention to to think about this chips best use so other scenarios might be the way to go for those wanting to get the most out of it.

too random I think still, hard to predict line ups that week

At this stage I plan to use it the week after the short fall of fixtures, which I think will be of better use than during

so say last year we had only 4 games one week, then a double, then a full week, then two more doubles

if that's repeated I would go

plan for short week by front loading
        free hit chip
        wild card

I've been thinking about this, and I think it could work nicely. It's basically a 3rd wildcard if you use it for gw38.
The fact there were big scores last year in gw38 is rather meaningless. Assuming that it will work out the same way this season is foolhardy.

I like the chip and I think there will be a variety of ways to play it. Given that you can't play 2 chips in the same GW I don't think your strategy will be the most popular. It's another decision for casuals to get wrong so should favour the better FPL managers.

It's too easy to use it for a double, it makes perfect sense. The only scenario I can see where it isn't favourable would be when fixtures shift around the same time as the double, then a permanent wildcard might be better maybe.

You can not play two chips in the same GW, so I can't see me using this in a DGW because I would want to use BB and WC in the two big DGW.

For me this is best used in a blank week, or when you have lots of injured players, or during a week where the top teams are resting players due to CL or the fixtures through up strong home advantage to the top six against poor teams

Unless we get 3 strong DGWs which is unlikely i think its super likely this chip is just used for a blank GW.

Lets you plan your team over the fixtures around it without worrying about keeping dross in your team just because they're playing one fixture.

I think this is by far the most exciting, potential rewarding and innovative chip. I do not find it disappointing and on the contrary, it minimises the "chance" aspect of the other chips. Indeed, if the FH can be utilised properly on a DGW, it will free our second WC. What always frustrated me the last two seasons is that we have only one TC and one BB, which everyone uses in GDWs, which kind of makes it boring and routine. Now, there is a new chip that may relieve us of such liabilities as to TC, BB or WC during a DGW. We can play all other chips much more freely and in a DGW, merely concentrate on "winning by force" by fielding a perfect 11... Of course, this is one of many other potential usages of this chip but to sum it up, I find it "liberating" the other chips.

Willian is looking fantastic and yes hat opening day fixture is looking good, but bringing him in means losing someone else

I think Liverpool, City and United mids are going to be great at the start

Burnley Spurs Everton Leiscter Arsenal isn't great going for Chelsea

I see the fixtures but I just think Willian is so central to their game. He's creative, has a goal in him and is also on a big proportion of set-plays.

Added to that, it's clear that he is in very strong form.

I think Chelsea and Willian can overcome that start and he still offers exceptional value.

Spurs are the only other team to play Burnley at home. None play Watford at home, which is currently the home fixture of choice.

I will, and may still feel uncomfortable going past that fixture without either Willian or Morata, and I am gutted that I cannot afford Luiz at present.

Chelsea are champions for a reason. Ferguson would counsel us in similar terms.

Of those, C but it is difficult to decide without knowing your bench.

Also, don't plan for an early WC. You might not need it but feel you have to stick to the plan. I prefer to plan for 6 GWs as it gives flexibility to change 1/3 of your squad and 1/2 of your first team.

I see a clear winner in C I reckon. But that's because it's closer to my squad so there's obvious bias.

I just think Kane and Lukaku offer such security and you still have strength in midfield and some good fixtures in defence.

Alli and Kane might need a look and I'm considering Salah over Coutinho.

That logic would mean that Romero is the best keeper because of his PPM last year.

Ake is a great pick though and if Bournemouth tighten up he will be the go to option

Need to discard outliers but otherwise this seems an important metric to me. Fabregas should (didn't check) be a good example where points per game will be misleading in terms of his impact when on the pitch. ppm will correctly reflect it.

Of course you also have to factor in whether they'll get enough minutes...

In Ake's case that statement of "overlook points per minutes" is bollocks. Ake played at Bournemouth as a starting player and not as a substitute.
He will be in my team.

Probably only 100% nailed defender at the minute. Was it last year that they changed the bps in favour of defenders? He might just quietly scoop them up if they are on offer. He even had a shot on target yesterday in preseason that led to Mitro's goal.

    Please RMT

This isn't my preferred team, but could this be fruitful if I excluded the very top premium players (excluding the keeper) and fill it with decent players of top teams (that will hopefully play regularly)?

    De Gea (Elliot)

    Lindelof Monreal Trippier (Rangel Cranie)

    Ramsey Mkhitaryan Sane Willian (Loftus-Cheek)

    Morata Lacazette Jesus

The bench is very poor, but I could always downgrade one of the players by 1mil and upgrade the 2 defenders to 4,5mil playing defenders

The big question is, where is your captain?

You'd be trusting it on Jesus or a new signing. I'm not sure I like that over a 50% owned Lukaku or a Kane.

      Mkhitaryan is gutsy borderline inspired.

7/10. Quite a few unknowns: new signings, Chelsea poor fixtures, city possible rotation and doubts over fitness/ gametime for Ramsey, Mkhi, and Lindy. Possibly some of these points can be dismissed, and on paper it is a very strong team. The players you've picked possibly are better value than last season's stars like Kane and Sanchez who have had price hikes.

I appreciate the feedback guys. I never considered my captain options when creating this lineup. I'd be losing valuable points from players capable of producing regular double figures, and doubling it as my captain. Back to the drawing board for me I guess lol

Benteke isn't a bad pick but he's really frustrating as he's not always taking the shots in the team meanwhile Zaha saves a mil of the budget and seems to be more influential - that is my only argument for now.

I think for me, the question is Trippier/Lindelhof/Monreal - or go DDG and downgrade Trippier to a 4.5.

Sorry just seen this. Yes looks decent, I prefer Trippier and a 4.5 keeper (Hart/Begovic?).

Please help me pick a combo:

    1) RLC | Mane
    2) Milivojevic | Coutinho/Salah

2 for me (although depends on what formation you are playing - are you planning on playing the CRY player every week?)

Thanks Reuser, no will be rotated between Palace mid and Mee (3-4-3 to 4-3-3) on basically alternative weeks.

        Thoughts?

          That's a nice rotation.

Think 2 is the way to go. Mane is recovering from injury. Salah and Coutinho look sharp and are cheaper.

And Zaha is going be fouled. A lot. Mili could do well there. RLC is a price drop waiting to happen if he starts slowly.....

I have the very same dilemma.

Currently on Coutinho as I like to be a bit dull and choose proven epl performers for gw1. But Salah is looking very tempting though.....

Think I'm with you on the 'safer Coutinho atm, everything good Liverpool do seems to come through him anyway....

Already I'm punting on Austin so will go with the prem proven Coutinho for now! Thanks again, just replied to your post about Trippier.

Hi all, no internet the past few days travelling so catching up on all sport now.

Joe Hart still not confirmed at 4.5?

See Coutinho, Lukaku, Kane, Micki, Willian, Batsuai are all tearing it up..

Any cheaper gems coming to light? Phillips?

Joe Hart has arrived at 4.5. Still not sure on the Hammers defence, though.

I'd say Willian and Micki are the form midfielders so far in pre-season. Ince for Huddersfield I guess.

Still time for budget midfielders to emerge. I think JWP might yet have a say when he gets back for Southampton. We're going to be tempted by some Saints cover with those fixtures.

Nice one Mark, was just interested to see if FPL went with 4.5

True on the Southampton point and same with Micki and Willian, interesting few weeks ahead

Hopefully a new podcast coming soon

Any information/comments on Austin? He's scoring the goals in Pre-Season.

Will he be nailed on to start or Gabbi? Very good option I think, considering Saints opening 6 fixtures...

    Thanks.

Yes, I'm surprised. I would have thought that Gabbi would be preferred for his mobility over Austin but it's not looking like that. However, Redmond and JWP to return yet - we've not got the full picture at Saints.

Austin has to be monitored though. Minutes = points.

Exactly. And he scored 176 pts in the 2014/15 season when he played regularly.

I'm really keeping a close eye on him. He could be the surprise for the first few weeks with those fixtures.

        Thanks mate!

I hope to see a special article on him and the Saints attack.

For now, I'll keep him in my frontline.

        Cheers!

Wonder could both start, its not like they have a glut of attackers. Austins composure will hopefully get him a run at the start before injuries manifest.

Can any one guess City lineup?
    Jesus, Kun, Sane
    KDB, Silva
    Fernandinho??
AGUERO is a lot cheaper now and could be gold but I don't want to pick him and worry about his nailed-on ness.

    Foster Elliott

    Cédric Aké Tomkins Naughton 4.0

    Coutinho Willian Zaha Phillips Chalobah

    Lukaku Kane Agüero

    Help me lose 0.5.

    a) Aké > Francis

    b) Phillips > 5.5

    c) Zaha > 6.5

When are citys next pre seasom friendlies? Need some clarification on whether aguero or jesus will start up front

With that attacking formation if its both then aguero through the middle for 11.5m is a steal

I think you've got to start off with him. If Aguero looks nailed, or Morata scores as consistently as Costa than it's an easy downgrade.

I just think morata is great value, then lukaku is the best way into Manchester and lacazette just fits arsenal system.

Lacazette will struggle IMO. Lukaku will fire from the off. Morata may be eased in given Michys form in pre season, he's earned more minutes.

Lacazette will be good, but I wouldnt jump on him early doors. Going from the French league to the EPL is a big jump.

Thinking of going Aguero and having the money ITB to switch to Kane with 1FT.

Too early settle on my team though as may look to use that money to upgrade a midfielder.

Which team looks better? It's essentially Zaha & Gayle/Austin vs Salah & 4.5 striker and play 442

    A) Foster Myhill
    Lindelof Trippier Cedric Daniels 4.0
    Alli Mkhi Willian ZAHA Carroll/RLC
    Lukaku Kane GAYLE/AUSTIN

    B) Foster Myhill
    Lindelof Trippier Cedric Daniels 4.0
    Alli Mkhi Willian SALAH Carroll/RLC
    Lukaku Kane 4.5
