Next up in our summer series of members’ articles, offering in-depth team-by-team analysis are Southampton. A side that carry extra significance ahead of the new campaign given their exceptionally kind early fixtures.

To get underway, we’ll analyse performance at a team level and attempt to spot trends or improvements. We then delve into the player data, analysing the key individuals as we scour for potential targets ahead of next month’s Gameweek 1 deadline.

In addition, we’ll also focus on any specific periods of interest brought about by tactical changes or breakout Fantasy performances – in this case we’ll focus on the Saints’ home/away displays, investigating a trend that saw them score just 17 goals in front of their own supporters.

Southampton finished in sixth spot under Ronald Koeman back in 2015/16 – a total of 63 points was just three points behind Manchester City in fourth. But the Dutchman’s decision to move to Everton proved detrimental to their prospects, with replacement Claude Puel struggling to maintain those standards.

Despite claiming eight place, Southampton bagged just 46 points and found the net on 41 occasions – a tally that bettered only the bottom five and well behind the 59 strikes under Koeman.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Considering current ownership levels if spurs blank gw1 who is more likely to drop value alli or eriksen?

Alli, i believe high owned players drop quicker

I am assuming Alli is highly owned?

To be honest I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Eriksen is someone I'd be happy to keep all year.

Can't see people selling them after 1 GW unless Ozil or Pool mids get hauls. People see the price tag as a measure of points, and I don't think they'll downgrade too much and risk losing points the next week, especially given the history of points Eriksen and Alli have.

Hmm thought people might see as an easy downgrade if zaha/willian etc get hauls. Think I'm going to go eriksen

A Liverpool mid hauling wouldn't exactly be a surprise and Spurs have Chelsea up next. The mob is fickle, brother.

Thoughts on Salah? He looks good pre season, all this barcelona malarkey surrounding coutinho could unsettle him, im tempted to start with Salah instead, hes also a small differential compared to coutinho, 15% less owned.

Im also finding it hard to pick between KDB and sane.

Alonso, Lukaku, Kane nailed into my team.

This is the aspect that few seem to consider. It's not like it's Alonso vs. Willian. It's Alonso (because you'd start him every match) vs. the in-form, fixture-friendly combination of Willian/Tadic/Zaha/Ramsey/Redmond/Lanzini/Antonio/Arnie/Walcott/Fabregas/Barkley/Mata...

I 've had Zaha, but then remembered owning him close to the end of the season and he disappointed me.

    Jesus lukaku Kane

    Myhill rangel RLC chalobah

I know midfield is weak but I'm hoping up too will make up for it... short term I will tweak 1 or 2 but long term I aim to work in chicha/Gayle and Marcos alonso

    Best tactic?

    A) Change team name to EPIC GAYLE to start a ML bandwagon.
    B) Get Gayle and change name on August 11

Is Alonso safe or will Chelsea look to upgrade? If he's safe then B

Evening all. I know how irritating RMTs can be so I'm limiting myself to 1 a week.

Here's my first attempt of the season.

    Foster Myhill
    Trippier Cedric Monreal Dunk Mee
De Bruyne Zaha Sigurdsson Ward-Prowse Carroll
    Kane Lukaku Hernandez

Is the attack strong enough to paper over the cracks?

Midfield needs work I think. Rest is fine.

Too much uncertainty around Siggy at the moment. Bound to get a move, but we have no idea when. Hasn't had any pre-season and won't do until a move is sorted.

I'd be tempted to downgrade one of the 4.5 defenders to 4.0 and upgrade JWP.

Reckon Siggy will be at Everton within the week and I think could be gold. If it lingers on for long then I agree with you.

Just throwing this one out there. Is Sterling a terrible idea, or have we completely overlooked him?

There was a game, @SUN, it all went Pete Tong. He could challenge Sane on the left but Sane is a very good player.

    Too punty?

    DDG
    Trippier, Cedric, Suttner/Francis (Rangel)
    Salah, Sane, Ramsey, Willian (Carroll)
    Kane, Lukaku, Chicharito

Was just an attempt at squeezing in attacking players from each of the big sides. Don't think I like it.

Think I preferred it with Kane, Sane > Aguero, Alli. Also don't like Trippier's early fixtures.

Eriksen means steady points all season long.
Alli can expload one week and then have few 2 pointers on a trot.
For me Eriksen is the one to have.
