Our series of summer members’ articles continues this afternoon as we assess what’s on offer at the managerial merry-go-round that is Watford.

To begin with, we analyse the Hornets’ performances on a team level, checking out last season’s data in order to spot trends and areas of improvement. Following that, we take a look at the players to pinpoint their key individuals.

For this article, we also focus on new manager Marco Silva’s impact on his former club Hull City after an impressive stint at the KCOM Stadidum during the second half of 2016/17.

Watford parted company with Quique Sanchez Flores at the end of 2015/16, scoring 40 times on their way to finishing in thirteenth spot on 45 points.

Yet the now-departed Walter Mazzarri failed to improve upon those performances in his only season at the helm. The Vicarage Road outfit scored the same number of goals but picked up just 40 points, ending the campaign in seventeenth position.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Thinking go for Kompany and see if Kola is nailed.

I've got 12.0 to spend on 2 defs that will play every week. Was thinking of both of them. Or is there a better combination? Bailly in the mix there?

Rather choose De Gea over Baily now, must assess few game weeks. Toby is also good choice for nailed def in strong team.

Any thoughts on a Suttner/Lowe rotation pairing?

Currently on TAA and Suttner, but exploring alternatives. Other defenders are Kompany, Stephens and 4.0.

Really good price structure to your team making it easy for you to swap players in and out in coming game weeks.
Just me but I'd go Bavies to Alonso and Willian to Fer as these two are more secure over time.

They are certainly good fixtures, I was considering Mooy based on fixtures and set pieces, Mounie intrigues me as I have had Austin as my budget striker but he's looking less and less like the one.

See how we go. Easy to swap him to 4.5 and upgrade defense after a few games in. He's certainly worth a shout with those fixtures. Mooy is great and will feed him some nice opportunities.

So Alonso scored against Bayern and he was in 70% of RMTs on this site after that. Yesterday he had a poor performance and I see loads jettisoning him right away. The knee jerking on here is insane, and we haven't even begun the season proper yet.

I wouldn't consider the above to be likely non-starters in GW2. If they play well they could retain their spots (well Danilo and TAA anyway).

More likely is perhaps Iwobi (place-holder for Sanchez), and Holding? er, holding the place of suspended Kos.

        1. Rover
          • 9 Years
          8 years, 6 months ago

Danilo may be able to equal Mendy and Walker as rotation prospects but I can't see TAA keeping Clyne out however well he plays.

And Iwobi is an excellent idea, especially with Ozil, Ramsey out too.

I was looking @ GK scores last night trying to answer this question myself. Came to conclusion that if you can get 135-ish points out of you GK you are doing well. The 5.0 & 5.5 keeps don't even seem to get much more than this so better going with a 4.5 imo.

    4. Andy_Social
      • 13 Years
      8 years, 6 months ago

I'm taking a tactical approach as follows:

I'm starting with DDG as I'm confident he'll get a few clean sheets in the early fixtures. My intention is to see who establishes himself as the bandwagon keeper, this year's Heaton at which point I can switch from DDG to him painlessly.

In the same way, I'm starting with Bailly as my United place-holding defender. My intention is to see who gets nailed in defence - Lindy, Jonesy, Smally, Darms, Blindy at which point I'll pocket some change with a simple free transfer.

Thanks All - I think Andy_Social's flexible strategy sounds good to me.

Fancy MUN to get a good number of clean sheets with Matic onboard, and easy to move to any other performing keeper once better performers become apparent.

Whilst I could do with the extra 1m, my team is pretty balanced as it is, and I don't think that extra money will be able to significantly improve my squad at this point.
