The ScoutCast – Episode 228 – Countdown

The final countdown has begun with the new season kick-off now less than 24-hours away.

Earlier the week the ScoutCast grew gathered as the clock ticked down, with Jonty, Andy and Luke joining myself to tackle a raft of perfectly targeted questions from you – the community.

Each of us take turns to reveal our current line-ups, while the collection of queries allowed us to put each of the four positions under the microscope. On occasions, we even broke from the ScoutCast tradition to provide some definitive answers.

Pre-season gremlins struck as I dropped out in full flow on Paul Pogba, but I managed to return to steer the ship towards its final destination – the first weekend preview of the new campaign.

It’s good to be back.

      It is giving everyone problems. I was all set on Iwobe until I heard ozil and Ramsey in the mix.
      Reckon best bet is pick the one with best fixture, chances are someone will become big bandwagon after this week and you can just switch to them.
      4th mid is the money making slot, dont think long term as it does not exist for that positiomn

      It could be o.k if you have a list of possible transfers where by spending the funds you'd have to take a hit ti do, but I think I'd still prefer the funds on the pitch.

      Hopefully. It seems terrible using a WC to sort out goalies when all you need to do is spend 0.5 more to get a nailed keeper, even if it pays off though, all you save is 0.5, it's not great payoff.

    Cannot decide on GK. Want a united defender and have DDG right now but i think downgrading him to a 4.5 and using the 1m elsewhere could be very useful. Thoughts?

    It's worth keeping an eye on who wins the right side in Palace's front three. Seems like it's a battle between Schlupp (5.0m defender) and Lokilo (4.5m mid). I foresee a massive OOP bandwagon incoming if Schlupp nails down that role.
    Even Lokilo, in a more advanced role than RLC, looks promising.

    I've yet to see a RMT without De Bruyne.

    I know he's a great player but is he really as Hazard/Sanchez/Bale in past fpl seasons?

      Hes cheaper than Jesus and if they come out firing he will be involved. He had 20+ assists in a bad yeat for him by some standards

      I think the bigger issue is that he is ManC cover without having to play the will he/won't he with Aguero or Jesus (or Sane). KDB will be in almost every game. That kind of certainty is worth it, for me.

      I think a player who got 21 assists and 199pts last season and had a good preseason is nearly as good as Hazard, probably 0.5m off him I'd say.

    Well, I guess it's finally time for me to do a RMT.

    Here goes:

    Forster (Elliot)
    Keane/Bertrand/Hegazi (Maguire, Mbemba)
    KDB/Eriksen/Salah/Loftus-Cheek (Carroll)
    Lukaku/Kane (Mitrovic)

    Will swap Keane for Trippier after first GW and Forster for Pickford (and Keane for Betrand) when EVE fixtures improve. Not loving Mitrovic as 3rd striker, but only way to shoehorn in the 5 big hitters.

    Anyway, if you see something to help me out, I'm all ears!

        I'm really gun-shy about Jesus. I mean, when he plays, he's fantastic. The problem is that I can see Pep learning some tricks from Real Madrid last season when it comes to resting players. In fact, I worry quite a bit about all the big teams following RM's script from last season, and the Aguero/Jesus rotation just scares the pants off me.

          My fear too. He was a no-brainer a few months ago when he was 9.1. But 10.5 is a lot for someone who you are not 100% comfortable with captaining.
