Dugout Discussion – Arsenal vs Leicester

The 2017/18 season gets underway this evening as Arsenal entertain Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.

With last season’s top scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player Alexis Sanchez stuck on the sidelines through injury, the stage is set for new arrival Alexandre Lacazette to make an immediate impact.

Boasting an FPL ownership of 17%, he’s is the most popular Arsenal player after netting 28 times in Ligue 1 for Lyon last season.

Encouragingly for the hosts, Lacazette scored six goals in his last four opening day appearances in the French top division.

Fellow new arrival Sead Kolasinac also makes his Premier League bow tonight – he’s owned by 12% on the back of Sunday’s Community Shield strike against Chelsea.

With clashes against Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool also to follow in the first six Gameweeks, Leicester’s key assets have been mainly overlooked.

Only 4% have taken a punt on Jamie Vardy, who averaged a healthy seven points per appearance under Craig Shakespeare in the latter stages of 2016/17.

The Foxes also face promoted pair Brighton and Huddersfield over that period, though, affording us a chance to scout Vardy and new strike partner Kelechi Iheanacho as potential differentials up top.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

            Ideally, both.

            But even the best defences will usually only keep about 15 CS a season. For 6m you want CS and baps/assists.

      Really hope this match proves that no one is essential. I saw too many people say that a RMT isn't good because it doesn't have Kane. Doesn't have Lukaku. Doesn't have KdB. There are more than one way to play the game.

          I have both Kane and Lukaku. I think they will do well. But they're aren't essential. It is perfectly possible that Laca/Jesus/Aguero match their points for a cheaper price.

          People said the same thing last season about Aguero and Zlatan. Kane Costa and Lukaku covered their points at a cheaper cost. Once again I think Kane and Lukaku will do great. I have both. But they aren't essential.

          My main gripe is when people post something asking for tips and people say things like "no Kane" when they have perfectly viable alternatives.

      Wow after weeks of planning I was all set. Decided on a team last night and I went to bed very content. Left work at 6 and had one last look at the team to make sure captain was set right and everything was still good. Then I saw it, a red flag over Pedro. A panic came over me! I didn't want to just do a straight swap with Willian and leave a whole 1m ITB. I had spent too long putting together the perfect mix to leave 1m in the bank. Time started passing very quickly and like a rubrics cube that was one spot away from being perfect, I kept on twisting and twisting. Before I knew it I had a team that bore no resemblance to the beautiful team I slept so soundly on. I stopped, it was 18:30. I took a breath and decided to just hit reset. I hadn't realised that at some point while my thumbs bashed the phones screen in what resembled a mix between a shark feeding frenzy and a scene from the matrix, I had hit save.
      18:38 and I thought it had started to rain, it was actually sweat dripping from my newly furrowed brow. It was now as if all the information I had tried to digest of the past few weeks was slopping around my head like some sort of fantasy asset stew. I put the laddle in and mr bumble style, dollopped out the biggest helpping of groul you've ever seen. Not even oliver would have asked for more.
      18:42 lightening struck, I had screenshots saved of some of the better options of teams I was looking at a few days ago. Hit save and quickly opened my photo gallery. There it was, a beautiful creation from Wednesday night. Switched straight back in to FPL website and the thumb frenzy whipped back up but it felt a lot more controlled this time. I am the one. Hit save and smiled until i saw it was 18:46 and the page was not loading. Hit refresh only to be greeted by team groul :'(
      Just then my better half walked in to find me sitting sweaty, red faced and looking "suspicious".
      "I hope your not watching porn at 6 o clock in the evening she said with a folded arms and a stern tone.
      "No" said I in a tone that questioned her intelligence.
      "Oh my f**king God" she exclaimed, "you're on that fantasy football thing again aren't you". I paused for a moment before considering my answer. I vaguely remember her muttering things like "turn that down" as I listened to the scoutcast in bed and "are you listening to a word I'm saying" as I was putting together my billionth RMT.
      "Yes I am on it" I protested.
      "I wish you were watching porn" she stated as she walked out and slammed the door. Then from the hall she bellowed the lowest of blows "It would be less f**king werid"
      I thought I should pen this before I take her advise 😉

            Still, the difference between Arsenal's CS record and a better defensive team isn't the difference between 0 and some high number. People saying you have to rely on attacking returns with Kola are way off the mark, because he will get CSs, just maybe not as many as other players. Then add the attacking returns and you may have overtaken most of the other players.

        It's the best league in the world because it is faster paced and more competitive. Not the best teams in the world like Real, Barca, Bayern. But when you have 6 teams who are fighting at the top of the table and then a mid-tier who don't give up even when they are 1-0 down then it is exciting.

        No one is saying its the most talented league, though a case could be made for that as well.

        When you consider a League, talent wise the Spanish La Liga is perhaps the best, with 2 perenial Champions League favourites in Madrid and Barcelona as well as Europa League pedigree in Sevilla

        But it is hardly competitive. And competition is what makes sports fun. No one expects any team other than Barcelona or maybe Atletico to beat Real. And most of the time you see them winning comfortably occasionally giving up a draw.

        In the premier league, while the top tier is not as great as Spains, the rest of the teams are much more competitive in relation to each other.

        This in my opinion makes it the best League.
