It’s almost like turn-based Fantasy Football.

Alexandre Lacazette’s 17.8% ownership will be more than happy with the night’s work from the Frenchman.

His goal and spritely performance was enough to provide comfort and early re-assurance for those who snubbed one or more of Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane or Gabriel Jesus.

Lacazette scored one, he perhaps could and should have got more. He certainly did enough to indicate that he can justify the 10.5 Fantasy Premier League fee.

His non-owners must acknowledge that Lacazette showed promise, but they will also know that there are more turns to play out.

Jesus will go on Saturday, backed by a 13.6% ownership, with 30.7% of those handing him the captaincy for a trip to Brighton.

Then it will be Kane and Lukaku on Sunday, with the 49% owned Manchester United striker backed by over a million armbands.

Meanwhile, up on Tyneside, Kane will be part of 37.9% of squads and with 55% of his owners trusting him as their skipper.

Those captaincy percentages are telling.

For while Lacazette’s promising performance might already cause some to consider the saving from Lukaku or Kane, it’s significant that the pair are both backed by more than half of their Gameweek 1 owners with the armband.

Lacazette earned the faith of just 29.1% of his managers, with the majority doubtless turning to one of the two big-hitters.

And therein lies the difference.

The Arsenal striker was impressive, but there is plenty of ground to make up before we consider him at the same level as Kane and Lukaku as a captain.

For starters, we will want to assess the impact Olivier Giroud’s dramatic winner.

Once again he sprung from the Arsenal bench to send Arsene Wenger a message. Once again, as we saw with Alexis Sanchez last season, we will wonder if Giroud will eventually gain starts as the central striker, pushing Lacezette into a support role.

To an extent, we have the same worry with Jesus. Sergio Aguero’s presence could eventually shift the Brazilian to a flank or behind the lone striker at times.

How that will impact either striker is unknown. What we do know is that this is not a concern with Lukaku or Kane.

So while Lacazette convinced and demonstrated that he will have a say in our seasons, early talk of Arsenal’s new signing being elevated to their level seems premature.

He has the pair on their toes, and they will need to take their turn to shine.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I had them both, in a 4-3-3, to enable Jesus alongside Kane/Kaku/KDB... chickened out 15 mins before deadline & swapped them to Phillips/Zaha & Jesus >Firmino.

They could really make me regret it - good luck with them!

I have JWP but Ritchie on bench for this GW so if he doesn't start hopefully shouldn't be too bad. i think as long as you're not relying on him as a serious starter you'll be ok because looking at the Southampton fan forums and predictions he's likely to be a rotation risk

Stoke away will be an eye opener for them... but Stoke aren't great either.

The Liverpool match is a potential sneaky arsenal smash & grab win... it will be liverpool's 5th game in 15 days, likely with no Coutinho also... arsenal will have had 7 days rest.

Could see them getting 3 wins from 3 to open the season to be honest

I don't know... from what I saw he is going to score a lot of goals. His touch was clearly world class at times & if he's on penalties he's pretty much fixture proof. I take your point though that he does appear to have handed the initiative to Lukaku & Kane at least initially. I did always feel that might be the case so avoided starting with him. But will want to get him in at some point now I think.

The trick will be not to knee jerk out Kane or Lukaku if they blank GW1/2 to chase points - they need to be given time & they will score!

Bellerin was in the box a lot, but he is still a rotation risk, and Kola will be just as advanced when he is moved to a WB. Happy not to own him atm anyways, the Arsenal defence looked horrible. I'm not getting over that corner goal, Vardy standing all alone 5m from goal.

Liecester are very good on the counter as they showed towards the end of the season with their new manager and might do well against top teams (except Chelsea and Man U maybe). Don't assumed the worst. But you do need attacking returns and Monreal isn't going to provide any.

Grumpy this morning following last night.

Not only did my team lose but as living in Leicester, Vardy was a hugely popular pick amongst my competitors.

Thought LEI were quite good actually back to their counter-attacking best. Need to tighten up at the back - all but Vardy behind the ball for the Rambo goal was poor defending.

Yeah, it's kind of what we're used to as Leicester fans. Definitely never boring and complete extremes.

The sooner Huth is back to partner Maguire the better, but I do hope we get Smalling or Gibson over the line to bolster that defence.

If Stormzy doesn't score today I'm going to be extremely upset.

Those who watched the match, what did you think about Mahrez? He looked hungry.

Personally, I thought he was terrible bar one or two decent passes. He gave away the ball for the first two goals, trying showman trickery in his own half and just generally showboating rather than trying.

Unless he improves his ethic, Gray will be in for him soon, should he not be sold.

Could be a painful day tomorrow

The majority of my mini league have lukaku no Kane,

And two of us have kane no kaku

It's that fear that meant I had to have both. Much better all round team without Kaku if he does not kick off he will get shipped pretty soon for midfield upgrade

That's why I went all 3,Jesus Kane, Kaku.

        Defence is fine

Midfield is a bit week however I thinks it's an easy move to downgrade the one with least promise after gw2 or 3 and use the 4/5 maybe 6 m to upgrade a mid and defender for a -4.

Saved me the headache of picking 2 of the 3 also

I had to have those 3 and went 523 to get it!!
Well Kola has worked out so far.
Only Salah and Zaha in mid right now - that can't last for long. Kaku downgrade seems most likely right now but if Jesus gets restricted minutes he might go.

Too early to say which one but yes, Lukaku would have been the one I left out of I was pushed to decide. The ownership got me though. I captained Kane but having him is a worry off my chest.

Salah, Fraser, Ritchie, Carroll and Zaha in midfield. Fraser will probably make way for Alli/DeBryune or whoever looks most promising

I managed Kane Kaku Jesus Alli Salah Willian with a defence that is strong, though lacking any premiums

I have kane Jesus Willian kdb salah Pogba and opted for Alonso instead of a stronger 5th or 3rd striker

Sounds like nice teams guys - I think I over did it on the premium defenders 🙂

Im expecting Cpl and Bou to blow Hud and Wba out of the water, yet at the same time, I wouldnt be to surprised if they lost. Go figure.

So basically you don't know what the score is going to be. That's the same as me, don't worry it's normal.

Whenever a threshold is reached. All player started last night at 0 so they have to climb to 100 before we see any changes. Probably Monday unless something crazy happens today

Who would you rather own long term/ for a draft league?

    A) Ramsey and Mounie

    B) Siggy and Abraham

B, because Siggy. Had him last year in my draft and was pure gold, even though loss of pens/some set-pieces assuming he moves to Everton will affect his output.
