It’s almost like turn-based Fantasy Football.

Alexandre Lacazette’s 17.8% ownership will be more than happy with the night’s work from the Frenchman.

His goal and spritely performance was enough to provide comfort and early re-assurance for those who snubbed one or more of Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane or Gabriel Jesus.

Lacazette scored one, he perhaps could and should have got more. He certainly did enough to indicate that he can justify the 10.5 Fantasy Premier League fee.

His non-owners must acknowledge that Lacazette showed promise, but they will also know that there are more turns to play out.

Jesus will go on Saturday, backed by a 13.6% ownership, with 30.7% of those handing him the captaincy for a trip to Brighton.

Then it will be Kane and Lukaku on Sunday, with the 49% owned Manchester United striker backed by over a million armbands.

Meanwhile, up on Tyneside, Kane will be part of 37.9% of squads and with 55% of his owners trusting him as their skipper.

Those captaincy percentages are telling.

For while Lacazette’s promising performance might already cause some to consider the saving from Lukaku or Kane, it’s significant that the pair are both backed by more than half of their Gameweek 1 owners with the armband.

Lacazette earned the faith of just 29.1% of his managers, with the majority doubtless turning to one of the two big-hitters.

And therein lies the difference.

The Arsenal striker was impressive, but there is plenty of ground to make up before we consider him at the same level as Kane and Lukaku as a captain.

For starters, we will want to assess the impact Olivier Giroud’s dramatic winner.

Once again he sprung from the Arsenal bench to send Arsene Wenger a message. Once again, as we saw with Alexis Sanchez last season, we will wonder if Giroud will eventually gain starts as the central striker, pushing Lacezette into a support role.

To an extent, we have the same worry with Jesus. Sergio Aguero’s presence could eventually shift the Brazilian to a flank or behind the lone striker at times.

How that will impact either striker is unknown. What we do know is that this is not a concern with Lukaku or Kane.

So while Lacazette convinced and demonstrated that he will have a say in our seasons, early talk of Arsenal’s new signing being elevated to their level seems premature.

He has the pair on their toes, and they will need to take their turn to shine.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Bit of a dullard question - is there an fpl app I can download for a windows phone? The website works horribly on it unfortunately.

On the plus side it will probably force me to upgrade. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, player prices were going up and down at an alarming rate early last season.

This year there are a couple of 100K more teams from the get go. So, more active players and in imo more choices this year.

We're probably in for some real quick and annoying price changes, right?

    1. diesel001

Yes. It is why at the start of the season I think taking hits to protect value is fine.

Did that last year and was looking at a more conservative approach this season. It's going to be tempting, though...

I'm with you on this. I think hitting a GW1 bandwagon and dropping someone falling in price, if possible, is a better strategy than saving a FT for GW2.

All I'm saying is I've done this in the past few years and my highest overall rank of the season has come in the first three weeks each of the last three seasons.

Until alot of the knee jerky casuals give up, the price rises will be rapid yes. Just have to accept this as part of the game. I really hope we don't see too many discussions on this this season as last week there was enough to last the decade.

Its also arguable that some people will have learned that knee jerking isn't the way to play and may be a little more patient with their transfers having learned from last season.

But then again, my mate has set up with triple Everton and wouldn't be surprised to see him take a hit this week. He plays every year and just takes hits at will and is rubbish at FPL

I took a lot of hits last year and still ended up top 5K but in retrospect I know I would have been better off by if I had planned my transfers more carefully. I'm not all against building TV early on, though. Could be one of those things that you just have to do to be in contention later on... As you say, a part of the game.

Yesterday was a disaster. Need to decide already whether to wildcard to the team I wanted to start with or take a couple of hits over the next few weeks to progressively get there.
I'm leaning towards the hits as there will probably be players in form who will be better than the ones I'll wildcard to right?

        Team is Ederson (Cech)

        Bellerin Toby Baines Bailly Rudiger

        Mata Willian Yaya Wijnaldum (Nolito)

        Benteke (Defoe Batshuayi)

Ha, the autopick went 5-4-1? How fashionable! I agree with others here that it's quite decent, really. I would swap out the non-playing mids ( Nolito, Yaya and probably Mata) before GW2 with hits and then sit back for a while. Blowing your WC before everyone else is not going to help.

How do we interpret the data on that?See top 10k ownership on players and cover them?

If you, as most on here, are up in top 100k in the second half of the season then it is really useful to see if your score each week is above the average of the top 10k.

Usually by the second half of the season there are loads of dead teams, so the overall average weekly score is not useful.

That is why this FPL Discovery website by Smarty Pants is such a great resource.

It also gives you % of captain picks and up to the minute points.

Disclaimer! I have nothing to do with this site. I just think it's great.

Any other app like Four Four Two for stats? It was so nice with visuals of all stats on pitch too..Sad it was discontinued

Work text me an hour ago said I have to come in and sort a few things out for an event later on. Event was planned but I have to cover for someone. I don't believe in coverage for what it's worth. 😉

I'd be annoyed as this would be in prime time deadline but with the deadline been and gone yesterday, funny how things work out.

Saw the transfers in/out, people are crazy that players who are fit and even have not played yet are being trasnfered out after first game of the season...Ultimate knee jerk !

200,000, some would have missed the deadline or prefer to see the starting line ups before making a selection.

Realistically how many points would you be happy with after GW1, I'm usually a slow starter but anything over 55 would be nice.

Well it kind of depends on the average.

Remember a few seasons ago when it went on a crazy run of GWs of around 25-30 points as an average score!

Fair point just going by standard average which is usually around 50 mark.

but depends if it continues to be a high scoring week, some weeks 40 is good score, other 80 is so so.

Is Gray expected to start? Correct me if I'm wrong I recall him scoring against Liverpool last season when Burnley beat them at the start of last season. I'd say he will be a torn in Liverpools defence if he plays.

Last week Chelsea dismissed as "nonsense" claims by a lawyer said to be representing Costa that Conte was forcing out last season's top scorer.

I know it won't happen but imagine the uproar if costa scores a hatty first game of the season
