It’s almost like turn-based Fantasy Football.

Alexandre Lacazette’s 17.8% ownership will be more than happy with the night’s work from the Frenchman.

His goal and spritely performance was enough to provide comfort and early re-assurance for those who snubbed one or more of Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane or Gabriel Jesus.

Lacazette scored one, he perhaps could and should have got more. He certainly did enough to indicate that he can justify the 10.5 Fantasy Premier League fee.

His non-owners must acknowledge that Lacazette showed promise, but they will also know that there are more turns to play out.

Jesus will go on Saturday, backed by a 13.6% ownership, with 30.7% of those handing him the captaincy for a trip to Brighton.

Then it will be Kane and Lukaku on Sunday, with the 49% owned Manchester United striker backed by over a million armbands.

Meanwhile, up on Tyneside, Kane will be part of 37.9% of squads and with 55% of his owners trusting him as their skipper.

Those captaincy percentages are telling.

For while Lacazette’s promising performance might already cause some to consider the saving from Lukaku or Kane, it’s significant that the pair are both backed by more than half of their Gameweek 1 owners with the armband.

Lacazette earned the faith of just 29.1% of his managers, with the majority doubtless turning to one of the two big-hitters.

And therein lies the difference.

The Arsenal striker was impressive, but there is plenty of ground to make up before we consider him at the same level as Kane and Lukaku as a captain.

For starters, we will want to assess the impact Olivier Giroud’s dramatic winner.

Once again he sprung from the Arsenal bench to send Arsene Wenger a message. Once again, as we saw with Alexis Sanchez last season, we will wonder if Giroud will eventually gain starts as the central striker, pushing Lacezette into a support role.

To an extent, we have the same worry with Jesus. Sergio Aguero’s presence could eventually shift the Brazilian to a flank or behind the lone striker at times.

How that will impact either striker is unknown. What we do know is that this is not a concern with Lukaku or Kane.

So while Lacazette convinced and demonstrated that he will have a say in our seasons, early talk of Arsenal’s new signing being elevated to their level seems premature.

He has the pair on their toes, and they will need to take their turn to shine.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Has anyone got a link to Paul's team, please?

    Last night showed that nobody can predict who will score/assist and to go with your gut, don't follow the masses...

    Xhaka = two assists
    Giroud = goal
    Elneny = assist
    Vardy = 2 goals

    And 99% on here would have called you crazy to select any of these players.

      Danny Welbeck's doing an amazing job as the invisible man!

      7.5m striker...looks like he'll be starting most games, scored last night and looked good.

        I disagree, assuming Sanchez is going to return, it'll be front 3 of Laca, Sanchez, Ozil. Welbeck is a million miles from disrupting those three. Giroud, Iwobi, Walcott all also competing.

          Tbf all three who played in central defence are not defenders. They could improve a lot when Mustafi and Koscienly are back.

              He is, sorry. But not first choice when all the defenders are back is what I meant.

                Kosc is the only upgrade on what they had at the back last night. Mustafi nothing special

          I'm sorry but as a defender he was poor at best. Looks great going forward, but my word does he leave Arsenal exposed. I'd be pulling my hair out if I was the defensive coach

          JRod, that would be something.

          Chica is a very popular casual pick in the ML's I've seen - but I'd still like him to do well. West Ham have not had a reliable striker for an absolute age. Crazy to think that at one point (I may be mistaken), they had Di Canio, Bellamy, Ashton and Tevez.

        From the moment i put my first team together weeks ago DDG never left it and for some reason always had the vice captain assigned to him. I'm guessing that happened to many other players too and they forgot to reassign it...?

                  By that logic you'd have almost no defenders. You have to get DFs with attacking threat and playing for a team that is one of the most frequent CS teams i.e. like Arsenal. Also, of course, you transfer out DFs for runs of fixtures where they look likely to concede significantly more than average.

              12 cleansheets last season, 17 cleansheets year before that.

              He may miss the odd game, but he is clearly their standout option at wingback and can even play CB.

                Fwiw i think he is nailed when fit and as a gooner watching pre-season I was drooling for FPL prospects. He can't help himself, he has to get forward - has made the telling attacking contribution in both competitive (ish) games so far

                  Good Morning Doinkster, from an English Arsenal Fan. I hope Kane and Co can put on as an exiting show as we did last night. Good Luck for this year.
                  P.S. my Brother and other family members are Tottenham Fans. We were born between the Archway and Seven Sisters Road, so a bit if a toss up on who we supported.

                    Goodmorning waterboy, first of all congrats with the first 3 points... even it was very difficult at home. Did you see the match in the stadium?

                    Your brother and the other family have more footbal insight lol

      I thought it was a promising all round performance Ozil and Holding aside.
      27 shots to 6. Defence is still wobbly but both centrehalves missing is not easy with a young RB and new LB on the park.
      Bellerin could provide a fair few assists on that performance and Ramsey could be an excellent 3rd mid option.
      Good to Vardy back playing like we know he can. I wouldn't touch Leicester defence at all on that showing.

          How about the ones who spend nearly all season running up a silly TV & keeping their chips just so that they can have the best shot of manager of the month last few game weeks?

          No but why do that if you are in for the long haul or do people just enter multiple teams just to do it..?

            Oh I thought it was sarcasm too. If it hadn't have worked out, those teams would be dead teams already, for the most part. It's just an unfortunate side of the game

        Agreed. Can realistically see 10-12 attacking returns and 10 or so clean sheets. Could prove to be great value, but just don't have that cash available atm (waiting for Trippier to be fit)
