It’s time to focus on the captaincy conundrum for the weekend’s ten fixtures.

As always, we check the Opta data for the main contenders and assess the team statistics and Rate My Team’s (RMT) reckoning before offering up some differential captains in light of the data analysis.

The Captain Poll

Spurs, Manchester City and Manchester United dominate our Gameweek 3 Captain Poll, with each supplying three of the top nine players.

A home clash with Burnley elevates Harry Kane to the summit for the first time this season.

Sold by over 120,000 FPL managers this week, the Spurs frontman earns 36% of the votes cast despite failing to score in the first two fixtures.

Sean Dyche’s side kept just four clean sheets on their travels last season and conceded an attempt on goal every 4.8 minutes away from home – only relegated Sunderland boasted a worse record.

Despite supplying the assists for all three of his side’s goals this season, Christian Eriksen has convinced just 4% to consider his armband potential.

Meanwhile, a mere 2% are backing Dele Alli for the Wembley clash. Only Eden Hazard (12 to nine) scored more times in front of their own fans among FPL midfielders in 2016/17.

With 28% of the votes, Romelu Lukaku is regarded as Kane’s only real rival as Man United welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford.

Now up to a massive 57% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the Belgian bagged a brace on his home debut and followed that up with a strike away to Swansea City last Saturday.

Jose Mourinho’s side have scored four times in both fixtures so far and face a Foxes defence that have shipped at least two goals in five of their seven away matches under Craig Shakespeare.

This also brings Paul Pogba (3%) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (2%) into consideration, with both outscoring Lukaku over United’s opening pair of matches.

Ranked joint-top of the FPL standings on the back of a goal and two assists, Pogba has been acquired by a massive 398,000+ managers since last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Armenian has racked up four assists and served up double figures in both appearances.

Man City roll up to Bournemouth on the back of a fine away record – they scored more goals on their travels (43) than any side last season.

Yet their slow start to the current campaign means that Sergio Aguero (3%), Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne (both 2%) are largely ignored.

Off the mark at Brighton in Gameweek 1, Aguero netted twice on five separate occasions away from home last term and scored more goals on the road (15) than any other forward.

Hauled off at the break on Monday as City regrouped following Kyle Walker’s dismissal, Jesus netted in all but one of his four away appearances last season.

Meanwhile, De Bruyne’s total of seven efforts on goal is ranked top for Pep Guardiola’s men – though all but one has been fired from range.

Elsewhere, a handful of in-form differentials could emerge as very canny picks.

West Ham’s Javier Hernandez bagged a brace away to Southampton and now pays visit to Newcastle United’s patched-up rearguard.

Chelsea’s two-goal Marcos Alonso entertains an Everton side that he scored against in a 5-0 win at the Bridge last year.

And Liverpool’s Sadio Mane scored in both clashes with visitors Arsenal in 2016/17 and has found the net in each of the opening two Gameweeks.

What is the point of this post? Any one can blank on any given day. Let me be the first one to break it to you, you may dodge a captain fail this week, but that ain't a guarantee you won't get a captain fail next week.

The Kane Captain brigade are destroying their season.

They will back it with stats...Goals imminent, shots in the box.blahdy blah.

It's their problem. Good for you. You should be all pumped up that you know something they don't. I somehow don't suspect that's the case. For those with Kane, Lukaku, Mkhi and Eriksen, why is there a need to be afraid of a captaincy haul? How bad is it if you know you'll already get half of Lukaku's points. For those without Kane though, what if he somehow beats the odds and destroys all? How many hits are you going to take to bring him in, and if Sanchez goes ballistic, I only hope you have your wildcard in your back pocket. There's ways to play this game mate.

Lukaku will be the most popular captain so those who captain Kane and own Lukaku will have 50% of his tally. Others will be differentials.

I don’t see a Kane blank being more than frustrating. Not having Kane in the event of a haul - that’s likely to be more painful.

Yeah I have him to + FT but dont wanna waste it on him, I rather take the 0.1 price drop. I have to get rid of Monreal first, I want Trippier but I havent heard any news regarding his injury.

      1. SAY MY NAME
        • 8 Years

yep, think it's worth waiting on the defender front, potentially a few changes regarding top picks over gw3 and the international break, with injuries and transfers we'll have more info in a couple of weeks

I'm doing my best to hold 🙂

  6. Pariße

    2FT:
    Foster (Elliott)
    Kompany, KOLAŠINAC, STEPHENS (Löwe, Mariappa)
    Eriksen, Salah, Willian, RITCHIE, (Carroll)
    Lukaku, Agüero, Gabbiadini

I'm pretty satisfied with the team, but 2 free transfers make it a problem. The 3 favourites to sell are marked in big letters and I'm looking at Kolasinac mainly because the return of Koscielny might put him out of the team (there's a chance, but an even bigger one that he shifts to LWB) and the second thing being that he has the toughest fixture.

    So what would you do?
    A) Kolašinac ➡ Jones/Trippier (current uncertainty over starts and the toughest fixture)
    B) Stephens ➡ Jones (future uncertainty over starts)
    C) Ritchie ➡ Mooy/Richarlison (2 unconvincing performances and drop possibility)

    1. Pariße
      • 10 Years

Could as well turn to Kane early by selling Kolasinac and Agüero for Kane and Jones, but selling the away king before a match with unconvincing Bournemouth seems foolish atm.

Was in a semi-similar Tx2 situation... Def think C is the best out of your proposals-[Richarlison looks like a better fpl asset & on a better side, imo]
I was seriously considering getting a jump on the eventual WILLIAN Transfer! ...Think we're Testing our luck on his start if Pedro & Fabra are fit; plus EVE are looking pretty good...
Held off in the end tho, cause he's 7.1£ so not making anything & he can slip 0.1 and I'll still break even during IntBreak...

In a similar position. I'd get Davies instead of Trippier if possible. I'd want a Liverpool midfielder but hard to squeeze one in and have Alonso. Overall looks good man.

Currently got a front 6 of Eriksen, Mane, Pogba, Kane, Kaku and Chicarito. Stuck on Mooy as part of a 3-4-3 or Davies in a 4-3-3?

If you def. want him, I would drop Salah since u have Firmino...if Liverpool get real hot, you can pick Salah back up, or work some funds around for Mane

Alexander-Arnold not fit? The yellow flag is kind of disturbing. (I might me missing something, having been away for two days.)

He got a dead leg in ChampLeague Qualifier...should be fit; wether he Starts?=different beast! Doubt he would get subbed in for a lame 10mins or something; so might let 'auto-sub' decide? [Be cool to see him start w/ Richardson on other side]

Only 10 pts from top in my cash league, only a few have kane (but they are 30 pts down) but everyone has lukaku and will likely captain
Is it worth risking captaining kane, and risk dropping significantly if kane does nowt and lukaku fires.
Or should i just captain lukaku, and be happy with kanes points

Fortune favors the bold my friend!
I'd go Kane and aim for that top spot...
Better Fixture, better Stats, F-Voodoo, & will be WAAY more satisfying if it works!!
Plus, your knife cuts both ways: You'll be safe with half of Lukaku's pts if it's a fail...

Bit like saying "I'll transfer out Eriksen for Alli".

I think it is wise to have 1 of those...seems like mhiki will at least be an assist machine if he blanks on the score sheet. Pogba is thriving with Matic holding. I like both
