The Manchester clubs are united in tormenting Fantasy Football managers.

In fairness, we should have expected Pep Guardiola’s City teamsheet to prove a source of frustration. It should come as no real surprise.

Even so, he seems determined to baffle us.

Having withdrawn Gabriel Jesus at half-time on Monday night following Kyle Walker’s dismissal, it appeared to signal that Guardiola’s affections were leaning towards Sergio Aguero for the lone striker role.

But just six days later, it was Aguero who made way as the City manager shuffled his formation and personnel in a bid to solve the frustration of Monday’s misses.

Aguero travelled to the Vitality Stadium today on the back of seven goals in his last seven away trips. He was backed by over 265,000 (5.7%) Fantasy Premier League managers with the captaincy.

Inevitably, Jesus took his opportunity to justify his selection. He served up his first goal of the season at Bournemouth having been sold by over 119,000 managers, triggering a 0.1 drop in price.

To make matters worse Aguero, along with today’s other omission from Monday’s teamsheet – John Stones – were both introduced from the bench by Guardiola. Auto-subs and Vice Captains were nullified.

City’s formation change – a move to 4-3-3 – also saw Kevin De Bruyne retreated alongside David Silva and Fernandinho as part of a central three.

That role muted his goal threat and again left him probing around the fringes of City’s 2-1 victory.

Statistically, the Belgian was still the most creative player in Gameweek 3 so far, providing four chances and laying on a big chance for Nicolas Otemendi who struck the post.

But those brief flashes will be lost on his Fantasy owners. They will continue to plot the exit of a 10.0 priced asset that has delivered three successive blanks. De Bruyne has already been sold more than any other player since the passing of today’s deadline.

As for United, while they engineered a 2-0 victory over a stubborn Leicester City at Old Trafford, Fantasy managers were left smarting by Romelu Lukaku’s penalty miss.

It remains to be seen if this dents Lukaku’s stock. There will be an ongoing debate on whether he will retain spot-kicks and whether Paul Pogba could be the beneficiary in waiting.

But for now, we can only consider what comes next in this current Gameweek.

Captained by over 1.7 million (37.3%) FPL managers, Lukaku’s zero point return sat alongside Aguero’s failing and a first blank from Pogba to set up Sunday’s performers.

Spurs’ Harry Kane now heads into a Wembley date with Burnley sporting over 741,000 armbands. Some 53% of his 1.3 million owners have trusted him as their skipper.

Confidence in Kane has been dented following his two single point returns, but now the scene is set for him to deliver the season’s first major twist.

A double-figure tally would cause a significant swing. Couple that with an impressive performance from Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and it would represent a turning point that could spark transfer hits and Wildcards aplenty.

While Saturday disappointed, it means that Sunday could be huge for all kinds of reasons.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone using their wildcard this week? Think I have to seeming that Willian is on the verge of getting dropped and PvA not rewarding so far.

    any ideal replacements for both?

    I have 2 FT.

What do you think of KdB to Sanchez and Stones to Mbemba for -4(+Xhaka to Atsu)?

    Already have Eriksen and Salah.

Or would you go KdB to Alli/Pogba/Mikky, and do Stones to Alonso for no hits?

I'm considering the same thing.....but Mane plays for Senegal on 5th Sep, evening. City's game is 4 days later at noon. He's then gotta play CL midweek against Sevilla before the Burnley match. How many minutes do you think he's gonna get in those two PL games?

Are you pulling the trigger tonight? I might hang on in case Kane blanks & Arsenal are on fire tmr. Because the other possibility I have in mind is KDB & Kane >> Sanchez & Lacazette. The latter is 0.1m cheeper so can afford a KDB drop.

Makes sense in your situation to hold. I have only 1 FT so doing it tonight. Don't think I'm able to get Sanchez without using WC. Can't have them all. I like how my team looks until GW7 so I'd like to use FTs only until that. Back up for injuries etc is using it now.

JWP is dropping tonight, can't decide between Lanzini and Phillips.

At Phillips' price he is better value but Lanzini is more explosive and capable of improving his goals/assits this season behind Chicharito...

West Ham look shocking but I'd still go Lanzini of those. Just can't see the returns with Phillips, you may as well get someone like Mooy, Carroll or Atsu if you're looking for value.

Had Phillips for a while last season (as well as Rondon) and got maybe 1 or 2 games each where they did anything at all, WBA are still a no-go in midfield and attack for me.

Missed the highlights, how did JWP look off the bench? As he's likely to drop in price, I'm considering transferring him out tonight. Who would a good replacement be? Ideally I want to save enough budget to get in Pogba/Mkhi in place of Willian (or possibly Ramsey) in the near future

    Foster Elliot
    Bailly Bertrand Dawson Suttner Hunemeier
    Eriksen Willian Ramsey JWP Carroll
    Kane Lukaku Firmino

Captaincy options for GW4 are looking fairly thin on the ground. Lukaku/Kane/Mané/Silva not exactly inspiring me with their fixtures... Hernandez at home to Huddersfield maybe? Genuinely tempted by Bertrand at home to Watford too...

I'm so fed up of having to decide between Ali and Eriksen!! I don't know which one, I never will ... if only KDB would give me one more spurs game before forcing me to choose!

Eriksen gets bonus points galore. Alli doesn't. Alli got a lot of lucky assists and scored 18 times last season. I think he will drop back a little. Whereas Eriksen is shooting more this season

Thank you, it just feels like Ali is the greater goal threat, plus the lack of CL and 0.1 less?!? Grrr

Classic FFS bandwagon fail (according to some). Didn't go near him myself but his stats were great I hear.

Given City's poor defensive record, I wouldn't be afraid to play Richarlison at home against City. Might give the likes of Otamendi trouble

Richarlison should keep his place but doubt the other two will

How can you say you're stuck with a player that presumably you only got in this week. One blank and he's worthless?
