The Manchester clubs are united in tormenting Fantasy Football managers.

In fairness, we should have expected Pep Guardiola’s City teamsheet to prove a source of frustration. It should come as no real surprise.

Even so, he seems determined to baffle us.

Having withdrawn Gabriel Jesus at half-time on Monday night following Kyle Walker’s dismissal, it appeared to signal that Guardiola’s affections were leaning towards Sergio Aguero for the lone striker role.

But just six days later, it was Aguero who made way as the City manager shuffled his formation and personnel in a bid to solve the frustration of Monday’s misses.

Aguero travelled to the Vitality Stadium today on the back of seven goals in his last seven away trips. He was backed by over 265,000 (5.7%) Fantasy Premier League managers with the captaincy.

Inevitably, Jesus took his opportunity to justify his selection. He served up his first goal of the season at Bournemouth having been sold by over 119,000 managers, triggering a 0.1 drop in price.

To make matters worse Aguero, along with today’s other omission from Monday’s teamsheet – John Stones – were both introduced from the bench by Guardiola. Auto-subs and Vice Captains were nullified.

City’s formation change – a move to 4-3-3 – also saw Kevin De Bruyne retreated alongside David Silva and Fernandinho as part of a central three.

That role muted his goal threat and again left him probing around the fringes of City’s 2-1 victory.

Statistically, the Belgian was still the most creative player in Gameweek 3 so far, providing four chances and laying on a big chance for Nicolas Otemendi who struck the post.

But those brief flashes will be lost on his Fantasy owners. They will continue to plot the exit of a 10.0 priced asset that has delivered three successive blanks. De Bruyne has already been sold more than any other player since the passing of today’s deadline.

As for United, while they engineered a 2-0 victory over a stubborn Leicester City at Old Trafford, Fantasy managers were left smarting by Romelu Lukaku’s penalty miss.

It remains to be seen if this dents Lukaku’s stock. There will be an ongoing debate on whether he will retain spot-kicks and whether Paul Pogba could be the beneficiary in waiting.

But for now, we can only consider what comes next in this current Gameweek.

Captained by over 1.7 million (37.3%) FPL managers, Lukaku’s zero point return sat alongside Aguero’s failing and a first blank from Pogba to set up Sunday’s performers.

Spurs’ Harry Kane now heads into a Wembley date with Burnley sporting over 741,000 armbands. Some 53% of his 1.3 million owners have trusted him as their skipper.

Confidence in Kane has been dented following his two single point returns, but now the scene is set for him to deliver the season’s first major twist.

A double-figure tally would cause a significant swing. Couple that with an impressive performance from Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and it would represent a turning point that could spark transfer hits and Wildcards aplenty.

While Saturday disappointed, it means that Sunday could be huge for all kinds of reasons.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I did KDB to Pogba, but was also considering Mkhi. Pogba just looked awesome today (especially in the first half) and I think he will get consistently more minutes than Mkhi (and maybe even PKs now too)

Thnaks and yes indeed. The double up with DDG and Valencia has gone very well. 3 GWs of double clean sheets and bps have been lovely.
All the Pogba and Mikhi owners can lick their bandwagony knees.

Hard to tell. Dummett is out for a few weeks so he may continue at left back and played well today.

Yedlin might be back at right back next game and Rafa may move Manquillo to the left.

Also depends on whether Rafa brings in another left back before the transfer deadline. Kenedy from Chelsea has been linked for a few weeks.

Anyone think Kane get can get 2 or 3? Swapped out kdb for sterling and Jesus for kane. HAHA. Went for the early maverick move. Head kept saying don't. Heart kept saying Do. I live by the heart. Had two frees and I am normally very patient and wouldn't do it. I'll prob just bench sterling next week and see what pep does, or swap to Antonio maybe. Happy with rest of team. Only 5 points difference with Kane to play. Not too bad, right?

    De Gea Elliot

    KDB Mkhi Willian JWP RLC

Lots of problems; Trip Danilo Hun JWP KDB Willian

Not quite for me. If you've got two free transfers you can fix the midfield in the international break. Simpson is at least a starter.

I'd prioritise KDB (just too expensive, plenty of 8m-9.5m options look as good) and JWP (too rotation-prone for what you get, plus better at that price).

Worth keeping an eye on Stephens if van Dijk stays too. Between VVD and Hoedt at least one of Stephens and Yoshida could lose their place.

Think I may just do KDB to Eriksen tonight before the price drop and reassess after the international break. Only 1FT to play with!

Anybody else really impressed with the dominant performance Pogba had today - especially in the first half? I thought he looked terrific. So much so that I picked him up (for KDB) instead of Mkhi that I had been leaning towards. I just see Mkhi as more of a rotation risk...

    (repost)

    Foster Elliot
    Bailly Bertrand Dawson Suttner Hunemeier
    Eriksen Willian Ramsey JWP Carroll
    Kane Lukaku Firmino

    1FT, £0.5m in the bank

Missed the highlights, how did JWP look off the bench? As he's likely to drop in price, I'm considering transferring him out tonight. Who would a good replacement be? Ideally I want to save enough budget to get in Pogba/Mkhi in place of Willian (or possibly Ramsey) in the near future

    1. TallestJohn
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 7 months ago

Don't know how JWP did but 'off the bench' in a crowded midfield is all you need to know.

Huddersfield options look good (Mooy, Kachunga, I've got Ince and am happy to keep). If you really want to save money I'd go Atsu at £5m.

Another United question... Do folks think that Jose will keep the status quo as it relates to the back 4? Don't see any reason to change it (no goals allowed through 3 matches). So I'm leaning towards Jones. I realize that he rarely strings together too many performances without getting injured, but a 5.0 Defender on a team keeping clean sheets seems to good to ignore (and I need to dump Stones - Pep's rotation once again burned me).

I would think so as Jose typically doesn't rotate back 4's that are keeping clean sheets. That said, I think he is the least secure of the 4. Darmian will get a start one of these days. The one I am holding out for is Shaw. At 4.9 if he can get/stay healthy, he could be great!

Mbemba is not good for a few weeks. He is not a Rafa favourite. Yedlin and Lejeune will be fit for GW4.

    Yedlin - Lejuene - Lascelles - Clark

Good advice. As good as any £4m def though if that's what's needed to upgrade elsewhere

    Hart
    Bertrand / Cedric / Ake
    KDB / Salah / Richie / Mooy
    Kane / Lukaku / Gabbiadini

    Elliot / Carroll / Mee / Long

Need to make a move soon.
    1. Eriksen in for KDB and leave things for now.
    2. Alli in for KDB + Richarlison in for JWP .
    3. Other?

    Begovic, Elliot.
    Kolasinac, Jones, Yoshida, Mee, Dummett..
    Willian, KDB, Ramsey, Carroll, JWP.
    Kane, Lukaku, Firmino.

    2ft's, 0.0m.

You have 2FTs. You don't need to make a move soon.
