Heading into the 2017/18 season, the Fantasy Premier League reclassification of Roberto Firmino from midfielder to forward was a source of much chatter.

Three Gameweeks in and Firmino has made fools of those of us who shied away.

The Brazilian sits joint-top in the overall standings on 26 points, having notched two goals, a pair assists, and twice taken home a maximum bonus points haul. Indeed, only Manchester United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan (106) leads Firmino (101) in the Bonus Points System (BPS) to date.

Over this international break, interest in the Liverpool man has been understandably high. He has experienced one price hike already (from 8.5 to 8.6), and could possibly rise again between now and the Gameweek 4 deadline.

With Liverpool in rampant form – as evidenced by last week’s 4-0 demolition of Arsenal – Firmino offers managers an opportunity to save valuable funds by downgrading a premium forward option to a lower-priced alternative who has hitherto managed to outperform his more expensive rivals.

Here in the Technical Area, we thought that this week represented a good opportunity to dig into Firmino’s game in greater depth.

Specifically, we will be exploring how his profile compares to that of other FPL forwards and whether that early-season form can continue as the campaign unfolds.

It's Lukaku all the way at the minute.

Alli looks to be the Spurs player of choice...not Kane.

Kane's awful tonight. Alli's by far England's best player.

If anyone sees something interesting that could be hot topiced do flag it.

If you don't see something then have a think about the current issues facing fantasy managers and post something about that to generate a discussion.

Also use your vote wisely. Every morning I go through the overnight posts in search of popular and interesting topics - via the rating search.

Exactly. You can change the manager and you can change the tactics and the style of play but you only have a certain number of players to work with. We can't just wait and hope that the next English Messi comes along weve got to work it out now and createn a team that is very well rounded and competitive.

          This.

Not a single one of these players, as much as I like Rashford, Kane, Alli etc., would have made the '96 team. They'd probably have struggled to make the '98 team too.

I think this is part of it - lack of experience and often leadership is an issue for me.

Where's the Adams, Shearer, or Beckham like character.

Defensively as well, Cahill often looks poor for England. He's hardly Ferdinand, Campbell etc.

I think football's changed though. With the salaries these guys make, and the over emphasis on the league titles, a loss in a WC is just a stumble and a bounce back in the league is apparently enough. No one seems to take losses personally enough at the international level.

I disagree. Most international teams would love to have the kind of player pool that we have. He problem is tactics, we are too slow on the ball and never ruthless enough, something which the past green managers have not tried to address.

Well it's not my problem, it's the managers and he can only work with what's he's got. Which is why I keep saying that tactics are what's at fault and why we are always so fricking slow when we play.

That pool of current English players is brutally shite.

Nah. I just think it's the results and the way we play that convince people that they're shite when they are actually very decent.

Compared to previous generations, yes. But are any of the current national teams actually that great? Germany, France, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal are all good, but can be turned over on any given day I think. I mean, what Germany did to Brazil was unfathomable in any era.

We always seem to do well at U21 etc...but the senior team is perpetually gash.

      The conveyor belt doesn't work.

Good players all the same! Saw Speed in Alicante airport a few years before be died.

          I've just depressed myself.

          Duff and Robbie Keane. 🙁

            Magic!

I remember proudly announcing to my dad I'd be supporting Ireland. He didn't really react. 😆

Souness, Dalglish, Cooper, Hansen, Robertson.... the list goes on and all from the same era and team so no Bremner, Law, Baxter, Johnstone, Henderson.
Happy days never to be repeated.,

      Mkhi, David Silva.

Maybe Coutinho if he comes back and slots right in.

Maybe even Mahrez now he's staying.

His assist for Kane in the last game was sublime too

No one claiming the kid is a world beater or anything he's still raw but he sure deserves his starting position in this England team

I love to watch Vardy, surely time for him soon against tired legs and a team which needs a goal.
