This Sergio Aguero chap looks a good option.

Twenty goals in 25 starts last season; he’s scored 24 and 26 goals in his two previous campaigns.

Priced at 11.4, cheaper than he’s ever been – he looks useful.

Of course, we all know this, it’s just that today’s devastating hat-trick at Watford has provided us with an almighty jolt and left us questioning our logic.

Seven days ago I wondered whether we will ever need look beyond the Harry Kane/Romelu Lukaku combination up front.

In true “knee-jerk” fashion, a week later, I’m now left asking if we can afford to overlook Aguero.

We can’t beat ourselves up; our reservations to this point were understandable.

Pep Guardiola’s plans with the Argentine, working in tandem with his apparent darling Gabriel Jesus, were shrouded in uncertainty.

Aguero has started up with Jesus in four of five Premier League matches. However, he was dropped to the bench at Bournemouth – a decision that appeared to confirm our fears that we could not rely on Aguero and Pep.

But today’s treble took Aguero to four goals since the south coast “rest” and the impact has been instant.

Over 74,000 have already moved to acquire Aguero, with Lukaku the major fall guy. The Manchester United striker has lost over 16,000 owners to his City rival before he’s even kicked a ball in Gameweek 5.

Some are clearly convinced, and the rest of us are left wondering if we should follow suit. City’s fixtures are more than enticing, and the prospect of watching Aguero run riot clutching FPL armbands is a petrifying thought.

Indeed, the only consolation today was that Aguero’s ownership remains relatively modest. He was part of just 502,000 squads ahead of Gameweek 5, and captained by 39% of those managers.

His 20-points will still make waves across mini-leagues and ranks, but it’s surely the least impactful hat-trick of Aguero’s illustrious FPL career.

But the haul hit even harder as a result of Kane’s bitterly disappointing blank.

Almost a million (20.1%) of FPL managers trusted Kane with the armband and were left frustrated by Spurs’ inability to breakdown a stubborn Swansea at Wembley.

Everything – the form, fixture and the statistics – all pointed to Kane being the Gameweek’s must-own, high-scoring option.

But there’s that logic again.

The same thought patterns that can perhaps persuade us that David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne or Gabriel Silva can cover Aguero’s future tallies.

Maybe, like a good few struggling Premier League managers, we just need to go back to basics.

Selecting Aguero in your Fantasy Football team used to be our rule number one. It was our basic instinct.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I've got 2 FTs, but this team needs a WC, doesn't it?

    DDG Elliot
    Monreal Dawson Stephens Suttner Long
    Eriksen Salah Mkhi Atsu TCarroll
    Kane Lukaku Mounie

That's just my theory. Jesus was taken off early while Aguero played full 90 minutes. They've got CL 3 days later, and Chelsea away at the weekend. Crystal Palace at home is a game they should win regardless of Aguero. And we all know what Pep is like. Think Jesus will start on his own.

  8. Rossonero
    • 11 Years
    9 years, 4 hours ago

It seems to me that there is a patter emerging in Pep's rotation.

Jusus is getting subbed of early in leagues games, and Kun got subbed in CL game. I'll be closely monitoring next week league and CL games, if this continues it would make Aguero more safe to pick.

If this is the case, i would eye a Lukaku - Aguero swop after int break and City's away game to Chelsae, United next few fixtures are very hard and it would be perfect time to make the swop.

    3. Kun Tozser

Probably not really a pattern, Kun was benched on internationals, Jesus wasn't

Both likely to have reduced minutes think you just need to accept that

      1. Rossonero
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 4 hours ago

When Walker got his red card vs Everton, it was Jesus who got subbed of, maybe there is some kind of arrangement that Kun gets leagues games priority, and Jesus CL games. Just a speculation tho, and will see if there is any in it next few games.

Holding onto WC to observe this and finally decide on which City striker to go for. Next CL match should clarify things.

Yeah, if a pattern emerges it will be nice, but don't forget Aguero was rested against Bournemouth so this may also be part of the pattern

Cursing myself for not doing Morata to Aguero last night when having exact cash.

Morata could score a hatty today though - I need to chill!

Remember guys, you don't buy last week's score. It could be Jesus scoring next week. Actually can imagine Palace ironically getting a result.

    1. Valar(Keith)

The only worry is gyardiola resting players for next week.. City should smash palace. Thinking of going silva since at that price I don't mind the odd benching(plus I think I need an Antonio replacement)

        • 12 Years
        9 years, 4 hours ago

Yeah, I just think when Bernado starts starting, will he replace David Silva?

I think Sterling could also be an option.

Ultimately if you knew Aguero was playing week in week out he's a no brainer, but you don't.

I don't like Jesus getting hauled off early each game either!

When selecting your most expensive players do you factor in how much fun it is owning them?

I mean, it may sound nonsense, but I prefer knowing Kane / kun could explode on any given day to Kaku just plodding along getting me a goal a week in a nice safe reliable boring as fk way.

Been surprised how well Morata has played tbh. Perhaps he is better than I gave him credit for. £10.2m for a striker who can get 20+ goals is decent. Will outscore Alli, Eriksen, Salah, KDB with that type of performance. And the saving over Kane (£2.3m) is quite tasty.

My front 3 is Morata, Firmino and Aguero and I'm happy with it. Kane is both too frustrating to own this year and Lukaku is similar to Morata in my opinion that he'll get one goal a game and again he's cheaper

26 24 20 thats how many goals he has scored last 3 seasons with alot of games missed due to injury. He may be rotated now and then but he will get you points thats for sure

Nice to see so many early transfers when there are midweek games, even if most teams will be playing a largely second string side

Im often (in previous seasons) and early transfer maker. But this week I'm keen to see how City line up on Wednesday before making any decisions.

Nothing wrong with early transfers but when there's midweek games that's asking for trouble or when people are making moves as soon as the gameweek updates before watching any football

    How is this for rough.

    Benched Forster for Elliot.
Transferred out Yoshida rather than Stephens.
    Brought in Davies for Yoshida.
As Davies and Stephens didn't play I'm down to 10 men due to Long being my fifth defender.
Missed out on a Spurs clean sheet.

That's rough - but pretty standard here. Had a very similar week. Even put Mbemba before Naughton in my bench order who comes in because of Bavies.

    Jesus or aguero?

    Aguero seems ov choice

But extra million can give me a otamendi type over 4.5

Still reckon Jesus is safer for starts, but who knows on minutes given CL games.

I have aguero in my draft team.

So tempted to go jesus/otamendi type

Any aguero points still good for draft

    *Foster *Myhill
    Davies *Bertrand Jones *Aké *Long
    Eriksen *Coutinho *Mooy Carroll *Romeu
    Kane *Lukaku Firmino
    _
    Foster > Elliot
    Myhill > 4.0
    Bertrand > Mendy
    Aké > Naughton
    Long > Mbemba
    Coutinho > Salah
    Mooy > Richarlison
    Romeu > RLC
    Lukaku > Aguero

0.2 ITB to switch back to Lukaku post Pep trolling.

Don't think Richarlison is a good pick. Chipo is better from stoke

Kane has already let me know so many times this season.... Can't pick a decent captain at all..

Kane will score against Wes Ham, surely.

Anyone watched WBA-West Ham yesterday? How did Chicharito look? Any goal threat?

I read somewhere that he zero shots.

Sell Dele Alli? Or wait the next clash against West Ham?

Just keep, I made the mistake last year of keeping him through the blanks and getting rid right when he exploded

I'm keeping but because I don't own Kane if I owned Kane I'd be tempted to go Salah/Silva or if you can afford Hazard

I will buy Hazard in a moment, when I see he is in good form, can score and not just a 30 minutes subtitute.
I own Kane and Salah also.

    Mendy or Otamendi +Mil?

Tough, Mendy is an assist machine though won't be long before he starts assisting

Depends on if the 1m wil benefit the rest of your team. If you have a lot of deadwood in defence or midfield then I'd say B, if not I'd say A

Then again Kolas could be better than both of them

Hoping Alonso brings something to the table this afternoon and causes more headaches for everyone. Im struggling this season but enjoying the challenge with so many options. Think my consistent 10k finish over 8 years is going to be hard though - currently 1.7 million.
