Both Liverpool and Stoke City look set to go into Gameweek 6 with a host of defensive concerns.

Meanwhile, Swansea City boss Paul Clement is mulling over a first start for Wilfried Bony for the visit of Watford to the Liberty Stadium.

Dejan Lovren is a major doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Leicester with a back problem, while Joel Matip and Emre Can are also nursing knocks, though the latter was pictured in training on Thursday. Sadio Mane serves the final fixture of his three-match suspension in the visit to the King Power. Jurgen Klopp may now be forced to field a makshift backline, with Joe Gomez retained in a central role following his EFL Cup outing and Trent Alexander-Arnold returning at right-back.

Earlier this morning, Stoke manager Mark Hughes conceded that he has a number of problems in defence ahead of the home meeting against Chelsea. Geoff Cameron and Ryan Shawcross are definitely out due to injury, Kurt Zouma is ineligible to face his parent club, while Kevin Wimmer is rated as “touch and go” after sustaining a hamstring injury. Hughes could now look to both Erik Pieters and Glen Johnson as stand-in centre-backs should he retain a three-man defence.

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement has revealed that Wilfried Bony is in contention to make his first league start of the season against Watford.

But Hornets defenders Sebastian Prodl and Younes Kaboul remain sidelined for the Liberty Stadium visit and Miguel Britos is still suspended.

Pedro Obiang and James Collins will both miss the home clash with Spurs, but Mark Noble is available again. Manuel Lanzini is back in training, but this weekend is too early for the Argentine.

Jonathan Walters is expected to miss Burnley’s home meeting with Huddersfield Town due to a knee problem.

And the Terriers will be without midfielder Danny Williams for the Turf Moor encounter due to a broken bone in his foot. Summer signing Steve Mounie misses out once again due to a heel problem, with Laurent Depoitre expected to shrug off a muscle problem to deputise up front.

Tyrone Mings has been ruled out for around two months with a back injury, but Junior Stanislas returns to contention as Bournemouth make their way to Everton.

Mauricio Pellegrino will decide today what part Virgil van Dijk will play in the home meeting with Manchester United. Matt Targett (ankle) looks set to miss out, though Charlie Austin is fit and available to challenge Shane Long for a start up front.

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Izzy Brown has returned to training this week following a hamstring injury and could be named in the squad for the home clash against Newcastle United.

Mesut Ozil looks to have a good chance of being fit for Monday night’s home fixture against West Bromwich Albion following a knee problem, but Calum Chambers and Danny Welbeck are both ruled out until after the international break.

So a few people are saying it's now risky to own Jesus due to his minutes (what a difference a hat trick makes!) but is the 1.1m upgrade worth it to steal from elsewhere? The swap for me would need to be:
    Jesus + Valencia >> Aguero + Monreal

    Worth the move??

Even if Jesus plays 60, it's shown that that's more than enough time for him to get a good haul, I'd leave it

Yeah that's what I've been thinking mostly - he's put enough goals away so far ay. I've currently got him captained against Palace, the above would require a hit anyway (only one ft this week) so this would likely be next week if ever!

As you said the hat trick has made a lot of difference in peoples thinking (as if people were shocked aha) but risk with flipping between the two is you might miss points each time.

Might not, but I think Sterling played also 90mins. B Silva and Sane played also. Gundogan injured again. Toure not fit yet? So it is not that far away that Jesus would be in starting 11.

    Alonso As A Mid

Someone (I think it was Luke) in the most recent Scoutcast mentioned that they are happy to have Marcos Alonso as a 7.1 defender, as they don't consider them a defender but rather a 7.1 Chelsea mid who gets points for a CS. Do many others follow that logic? I ask because I'm considering WCing Alonso in for GW8, which would significantly alter the balance of my side - effectively moving away from 3 decent mids to 2. It currently looks like this:

    Fabianski/Elliott
    Alonso/Cedric/Mee/Wimmer/Dunk
    Eriksen/Salah/Ritchie/Choupo-Moting/Loftus-Cheek
    Kane/Jesus (or Morata)/Vardy

The alternative is more balanced, but about 20pts less for GWs8-12 on RMT:

    Fabianski/Elliott
    Kolasinac/Cedric/Mee/Wimmer/Rosenior
    Eriksen/Salah/Mkhitaryan/Atsu/Loftus-Cheek
    Kane/Morata/Vardy

Where do people sit on this? Does it take some sort of mental gymnastics for many to convince themselves that spending so much on Defence is validated as they 'arent really defenders'?

    Cheers!

Watching Alonso play, he does indeed play like a Mid
Hazard's return is further beneficial - Hazard draws more fouls in direct free kick areas and is a selfless player on the left flank

On top of that, I think the likes of Ritchie/Choupo-Moting/Gross/Brady offer good options as 3rd mids, freeing up funds to bring in Alonso

      • 8 Years

Alosno in my team. You should watch just 2-3 Chelsea games to find out why people consider him as a MID who gets 4 pts, not 1, for CS. Currently he is ranked 2nd in terms of shots. He is on some direct FKs. What more could you want?
You won't get him in 1 FT so bring him in your WC team and just enjoy watching Chelsea matches.

      Nope.

Just a 7.1 wingback. Wingbacks get forward, but not as often as wingers and don't get attacking points as much as wingers, so he's not a mid. There are other wingbacks for cheaper like Kolasinac, Mendy and Davies.

So forget about mid, forward or defender and just ask yourself if he'll deliver value for money. He has to deliver enough points to justify paying 1m more than Kolasinac (for the near future). If you believe he will, go for it.

      1. FotnikPL
        • 8 Years

Alonso 2nd among DEFs in terms of touches in the box, 1st in goals scored, 1st in shots, 1st in shots on target + direct FKs. And I consider Chelsea more solid at back than Arsenal or City. That's why he's better pick than WBs mentioned by you. All of them good picks but Alonso ahead of them IMO.

One City attacker makes sense, but I wouldn't trade Lukaku and double up on them.

Dunno about irrelevant... A slip in form for City and you'll drop massively cos you've invested all your money in big hitters from the same team. Whereas picking big hitters from separate teams doesn't rely entirely on the form of 1 team..

Agree, no need for both Kun and Jesus. The main issue for me (and it seems a lot of people) is how to affordably fit in Kun/Jesus, Lukaku, and Kane.

I've got Silva and Mendy, but I'm proper nervous about not having Kun or Aguero given Crystal Palace's obliging defence. Worth giving Kane one more week? Or using my FT now in a pre-emptive strike...

I am so tempted to do Morata and Ritchie for Atsu and Kun(c) for -8 but it sounds so wrong, right?

That's crazy. Morata has a great fixture and Ritchie is better than Atsu. -8?? not a chance. I probably wouldn't even if it was free

    Elliott (Foster)
    Alonso Bavies Jones Mee (Mbemba)
    Eriksen Salah Richarlison (Antonio Carroll)
    Lukaku(c) Vardy Firmino
0.3 in the bank. 1 FT
    A) Antonio + Firmino(or Vardy if injured) to RLC + Aguero - 4
    B) Save transfer
    C) Antonio to Ramsey

So my little brother has been a knee jerk and put Aguero in when he said he wouldn't at the start of the week...

What do you think of the WC team? Will be playing 4-3-3 most weeks:

    Elliot / Krul
    Alonso / Kolasinac / Jones / Cresswell / Naughton
David Silva / Fabregas / Ritchie / Carroll / Chalobah
    Kane / Kun / Lacazette

    0.0 ITB. A sign maybe? 🙂
