No more no less. Three is the magic number.

In a week where we ponder shifting to a “power three†in our line-ups, the ScoutCast is reduced to its own Tri-force, as Jonty and Andy join me as part of a skeleton crew for this latest episode.

Don’t worry, somehow we still manage to string things out for 80 minutes. After all, there is much to discuss, not least the current emphasis on the big strikers and the demise of Bobby Firmino – the driving force behind my apparently ill-time Wildcard.

Talking of which, with Jonty’s own Wildcard booked in for the international break, he eagerly assesses the forthcoming “fixture swing†that promotes investment in Man City and Chelsea, among others.

Elsewhere your community questions guide us to examine the latest optimum formation and to check in with “piggy bank†Marcos Alonso’s after his cruel 58th-minute withdrawal in the Potteries.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Shocking news, first and foremost hope he isn't too badly hurt - going to be huge volumes of transfers today, suspect Lukaku to be one of the main beneficiaries, which means he will lose his differential appeal.

This. Also can't see why Kaku would benefit since he is heavily owned already and fixtures not great. Jesus, Kane and Morata look the likely beneficiaries. Think I will now just hold Kaku through these fixtures.

Same with Rooney a few weeks back - why on earth don't they have a driver and car taking them around? Pay a guy 200k a week you'd think worth the investment to wrap them in cotton wool

It's a tempter. But I'm not happy with his lack of goal attempts in the box.

I think I will go Lukaku. Approximately 2 million people will captain him. If he hauls, I get left behind.

Who do we fancy getting in over the next few weeks out of these low %'age midfielders?

          1) Sanchez
          2) Hazard
          3) Sane
          4) Sterling
          5) Coutinho

The young Man City players big on my radar at the moment.

How many points more than your original team would you consider a success on the free hit chip? For me, it would be 20.

This is particularly pertinent now with all the injuries. People to have already played their free hit will undoubtedly get more points this coming GW than they would have otherwise, but the following week they'll be stuck with a bunch of injured players. They'll either have to take hits to get them out, or bench some and have their subs come on. So it's not as simple as, say, 20 points gained on your old team over the week you play the chip.

does the free hit chip bank your FT?

can you make a transfer first, then play free hit?

It works exactly the same way as the wildcard with regards to any transfers you make over the GW that you activate it. (the only difference being that your team goes back to what it was the week after, and you'd have 1 FT)

so you could potentially tinker with your team all week, then decide on Saturday morning to play wildcard or free hit to avoid points deduction.

Imo this is the strongest chip in the game other than the wildcards. The thing is that it's not just about the week you use it. If you save it for a blank gameweek it saves you a whole lot of other points you would lose getting good players out because they are playing a cup game. It's also the safest chip because you can predict starting lineups fairly confidently. Bench boost is a gigantic lottery and TC can be powerful but there's always a chance that a stud DGW captain limps off in the 5th minute. Free hit could be worth about 50 points.

Free hit - Did we all overlook the whole "reverse transfers" aspects of this chip at the start of the year? Imagine having had taken a 8 point hit to bring in Aguero, Jones, Vardy at the start of the week and now being able to reclaim those 8 points and get back the players you transferred back alongside a better squad for the next gameweek.

My World Cup mini-league now has an all-Scandinavian team as well - there were just about enough players, including the injured Ibrahimovic:

          Schmeichel
          Christensen - Olsson - Zanka
          Eriksen - Sigurdsson - Gudmundsson - Billing - Hojbjerg
          Ibrahimovic - King

Bench is Lossl and 3 random red flagged players. Doesn't look too bad, should do better than the Dutch team at least.

          Aguero replacements...

In my opinion for those with the big 3 upfront (Kane, Lukaku, Aguero) it is best to replace Aguero with Morata.

Why? Chelsea have few viable midfield options.

At least with City you can buy Silva, Sterling, maybe Sane. And they all seem to score quite well when City hit in a few goals.

Yeah, I think cover is a thing... Not a huge thing, but a thing...

              E. G. Option one I'll have Silva and Jesus + a random midfielder in the 6-8m price category (Ritchie)
Option two I'll have Silva, Sterling and Morata.

One gets me involved with City attack alone the other gets me involved in both. Nicely.

Jesus and Morata cost the same.

So why does option 1 have Ritchie while option 2 has Sterling who costs more? Why not Sterling in option 1 as well?

Amuses me that people think cover is a fallacy. Spreading risk across a number of teams is a viable tactic.

I want Chelsea attacking cover... In morata.
I want city attacking cover... In Silva + 1 of Sane or Sterling.

Or do you only consider each individual player in isolation and not look at the rest of your team?

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

          Aguero Absence – Your Plans

Although at the time of writing Manchester City were yet to confirm details but it is looking increasingly likely that Sergio Aguero will be unavailable for a period of time following a car crash in Holland overnight.

With a 26.3% ownership, including more than 116,000 since Saturday, his absence has a major effect on many frontlines.

For his owners who are you considering replacing the Argentine with? Do you have money in the bank for a straight swap with Kane perhaps?

But his injury also affects all Fantasy managers, even those without him, as Pep’s attacking options dwindle. The obvious knock-on effect is to make Jesus a more secure starter. Will he be in your team after the international break or before? If so how can you fit him in with Kane, Lukaku and Morata also looking like strong options.

And how will his injury affect the way Man City play? Are there any midfielders perhaps who may gain more pitch time/influence as a result of Aguero’s absence? Or will their goal tally dwindle without their talisman?

This is wrong mate, Chica was played due to the counter-attacking pace. Admittedly you've raised good points about returning players but to assume he will be rested is wrong.

Aguero-Lukaku for me. Was anyways scared of Kaku at home to Palace. I am hoping Sterling/Sane start more frequently now, both will be great options and cover the City attack effectively without wasting a premium striker slot.

No, you can do better. I have the same forwards + Salah and Mkhitaryan in mid like Gunthourinho, and in defence I still have Davies, Kola, Maguire, Holgate, Tuanzebe. It can be done.

It's funny that people think a team will be awful just because it's balanced differently to your own. I have that exact forward line and my midfield is nothing like what you've suggested. And my defence is fine too. It's completely achievable.

                  Currently have:

                  Elliot
                  Davies - Kolasinac - Maguire
                  Salah - Mkhitaryan - Ramsey - Brady
                  Kane - Morata - Jesus

                  Krul - RLC - Holgate - Tuanzebe

Thinking about Mkhitaryan > Sterling after IB. And eventually I'll downgrade Ramsey and swap Tuanzebe to a playing def like Daniels.

            Non-owner.

Probably won't get Jesus. Selling Lukaku after Palace but like Kane and Morata more than Jesus, so no room for him.

I think Sterling might be nailed now.

And no, I don't think their goals will be affected by Aguero's absence.

I believe Aguero's injury will result in weird strategies by Guardiola resulting in missing points. I expect more time for B. Silva and Sane surely and strategies with Walker or Danilo as wingers. Plus less cs potential, since they are about to attack less.

As for fantasy, have Kun so between two strategies, not sure which of the two i ll follow:

Aguero -> Jesus, then Ozil -> Hazard and keep Ramsey
Aguero -> Joselu then Ozil -> Hazard and Ramsey -> Alexis for -4.

I've the c on Luka & had done Jesus > Morata already, so may just get him back with a WC shake up next week.
The solid striker choices with an in-form Aguero in the mix was a good one to ponder, so the inevitably increased no.of similar fwd line-ups without him is a downer, but what matters most is that he's ok & recovers well.

I didn't go with the herd so don't have Aguero. He was always a rotation risk I'm not willing to take for 11.5m. This makes Jesus more enticing, but I still feel City's points spread more than four say Morata at Chelsea. I'm sticking with a 2 premium striker set up for now. Abraham has done fine for his price so can stay. This news must be annoying for ppl who did jerk Kun in and planned gwk 8 wildcard. Same as turkeys I'm trying to save my wildcard for Christmas. I think gwk 8 wildcarders will be tempted to lose Spurs assets. Could be funny.

Non owner - had Jesus but coveted Kun.

For me I think this makes Sterling a less expensive option for GW8 onwards, was going to take Silva but struggling to get him and Morata without a hit, now will be easier.

Hope old Sergio is not too badly hurt but this helps me as was agonising over whether to do Kun to Kaku this week.

Decision made...........going forward I think it muddies the waters at Man City as points may be shared around with Jesus, Sane, Sterling, B & D Silver and KDB.

After IB I will probably get D Silva to cover City and go for Morata up front rather than Jesus.

Got in Aguero, Mendy, Jones & Vardy on WC last week. Bad luck!
Aguero to Morata this week and might get Sane after the break.

Kun to Laca for tomorrow's fixture.

Laca (or Kaku) to Jesus after the break with Sterling coming in.

I think it's not a bad thing for FPL managers, although for the man himself it obviously shite news. Gives more certainty around Jesus; I like my front line as it is so will probably go someone like Sane or Sterling from next week onwards

            Went for kane for -4hit
It hardly helped waiting till UCL matches to do Jesus to Morata as he wasnt secured starter..turned into a stupid move..apparently in this fpl season even waiting till Thur isnt a good idea

            Went for a punt

Niasse (5m - 3 goals in 2 games) and with the extra ££ upgraded a 4.5 mid to Coutinho (I forgot about Mane until I clicked confirm - would have preferred)

I'm doing Mendy -> Cresswell to fund Aguero -> Kane. Can Man City please stop their players getting injured? Cheers!

Pep will fiddle around with his systems/players like how he did last season when Aguero was missing. I imagine he'll get it right most games, but every now and again there will be a performance like the away games at Leicester/Everton last season...

Aguero and Mendy in on wildcard last week, which could have worked out better. Really undecided what to do now.

Until Aguero's injury I was going to bench Mendy for a week and have 2 FT for next game week but now the decision seems to be one of:

            1) Aguero to Morata for free, or
            2) Aguero to Lukaku and Mendy to Maguire for -4

Assuming no more injuries I'd probably transfer Lukaku to Morata next game week so option 1 is the sensible thing but I fancy Lukaku to do well against Palace. Maguire would probably be benched this week.

True, but if you're one of the teams that relies on Jones to play every week I wouldn't risk it - his injuries usually turn out longer than the prognosis.

During the last match when Sanchez started, Kola's stats went downhill and Bellerin's stats went up. Might just be one match but do you see Sanchez stiffling Kola's attacking prowress?

Delph played at left back in midweek. Think Pep prefers a left footed player in that position. In any case, Danilo will probably be rotated so he's a no go for me.
