It’s been quite a start to the season for Ben Davies. Currently leading all defenders in terms of points with 49 – a number which trails only Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku at any position – the Welshman’s form is inarguable.

In the six matches in which he has featured (Davies was rested for Spurs’ home encounter with Swansea in Gameweek 5), he has returned an average of 8.2 points per match (ppm) – more than a point clear of his closest rival (Antonio Valencia’s 6.7).

Last season, Davies performed admirably while deputising for the injured Danny Rose – racking up a goal and three assists, in addition to his share of Spurs’ league-leading clean sheet total. However, his attacking returns this campaign (two goals, three assists) have already exceeded last season’s totals in just 30% of the minutes.

In order to better interpret this attacking leap, we’ll be breaking down Davies’ early-season heroics, and looking for players who might serve as good benchmarks for projecting the Welshman’s performance over the remainder of the campaign.

Nice article, thanks. It doesn't explain why Davies is doing so well though.

Has anyone read a good piece on this? Could read some proper footy analysis during this boring break.

    Will Vardy rise tonight?

Got exact money to get him.

    A) Chicharito -> Vardy -4p
    B) Hold and do it free next gmw

Did a WC! Here it goes lads. Liking the 442 in the coming weeks while forwards are plagued by injuries.

    Fabianski
    Monreal-Azpi-Davies-Ward
    Coutinho-D.Silva-Fellaini-Hazard
    Jesus-Kane

    Subs: Elliot - RLC -
Mbemba/Mariappa - 4.0 fwd never to be used (Quaner)
    0.1 in the bank

Thinking of doing the Azpi>D.Luiz so i can afford Felaini>Chupo? Later after 3 gw's gonna do Monreal>Jones so i can change Coutinho to Salah if he proves to be better. Of course will bring Lukaku instead Jesus back after gw12 with some FT's or even Morata...Thanks in advance!

Morata > Jesus and Mkhi > Silva/Sterling for free works better. Ritchie has good fixtures, not sure what you were expecting but hes meeting his value right now.

I get your point but Vardy, Silva and Sterling each seem better vaule than their counterparts, so I guess Dingo has recognised a better way to spread the cash now that Morata is out, and is asking if it's worth -4, to which I would say yes, it seems likely to repay the hit in one or two weeks.

Just hope that Morata is out for one or zero GWs so you can use your FTs elsewhere

    My wildcard team:

    Elliot, Hart
    Davies, Stones, Mee, Azpi, Monreal
    Richarlison, Hazard, Silva, Choupo-Moting, Carroll
    Kane, Jesus, Joselu

I plan to play back 4 or even back 5 (depends on fixtures) as I think +/- 6m defenders will outscore midfielders and attackers with the same price bracket.

    Thoughts on this team?

I feel like this is an obvious save situation so long as Jones is available. I'd have Carroll ahead of RLC this week.

If Morata is out of at least 2 GWs, what would you do?

    A) Downgrade defender by 0.2(+) to get Jesus (-4)
    B) Sell Morata for anyone cheaper

    Fabianski
    Alonso Azpilicueta Kolasinac Bavies Cedric
    Sanchez Carroll
    Kane Morata Vardy
    Elliot | Cork, Chalobah, RLC

Have you still got WC? Could to RLC to Carrick?

No way I'm WCing. I'd love my team if Morata was fit.

I would get rid of Chalobah first, RLC last (of my 4.5 mids). Actually this could be viable, especially since I also love my defence as it is.

Shame I'd be taking a hit to get Jesus the week after I took a hit to sell him for Morata! Haha

Messi with a shot that goes out for a throw in! He is human after all 😛

Robots can also kick a ball out for a throw non-purposefully.

Cats are notoriously bad at shooting, too.

I'm sure there are humans who have never had a shot go out for a throw-in, e.g. me. Messi is therefore more human than me. I am the legend.
