Our usual post-Gameweek members’ article is up next as we check in on some of the standout performers across the previous weekend’s ten matches.

There’s cause for optimism in north London after Spurs and Arsenal hit a combined nine goals, while our new expected goals data offers plenty to ponder at Manchester City.

Elsewhere, Man United and Chelsea’s Belgian big-hitters have struggled to convince as Watford’s Samba star continues to catch the eye.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Staggering....and my final post on the subject.

After my Sunday comment about how forgiving football is of the drug cheat Maradona after he was spotted at the Spurs match I was amazed to see him giving out gongs at the FIFA awards. WTF !!

This is a player who failed three separate drug tests (one for cocaine and two for performance enhancing cocktails) in his career and openly admits to taking Pep up substances as far back as his Barcelona days.

What next ?....Lance Armstrong presenting winners medals at the Tour de France...Ben Johnson giving out life time achievement awards for athletics ?.

    PFFFFTTTT...!!!

        No...he's a druggie...end of argument really.

Same as Lance Armstrong and Ben Johnson...

That is a false analogy, cycling is purely a physical sport where the use of drugs makes much more difference than in football. You can't drug enhance talent.

You can we he talks about how he and his team took stuff before matches to make them run faster and for longer.

Which part of that isn't drug cheating ?

            1. Monkey Hanger
              9 years, 16 days ago

For longer yes. Faster an impossibility.

speed is relative. drugs can make you sustain a certain speed for longer periods. therefore it can make you faster. whether it's 100m a la ben Johnson or the marathon. if you cross that line in a faster time than you could without the drugs then it's made you faster.

                  9 years, 16 days ago

That is what I said. No drug(that I know of) taken directly before a football match can increase your mph, some can increase oxygen levels in the blood, and help you maintain your top mph for longer.

which is effectively the definition of speed. speed is measured by distance over time.

                    1. Monkey Hanger
                      9 years, 16 days ago

Yes. But the top speed would be the same with or without drugs.

speed doesn't exist until you've moved somewhere over a period of time

                9 years, 16 days ago

Either way...to have him giving out gongs for FIFA is an absolute disgrace. The man has even been done for drug pushing as well...

And they talk about sportsmen being "role models"....hard to find a worse one tbh...

So performance-enhancing drugs are ok in sports like football, tennis, rugby etc because it doesn't guarantee victory??? It still enhances speed, athleticism etc and is cheating full stop

Cocaine isn't really performance enhancing . Infact it's more chance of giving him an heart attack whilst exercising. Maybe it was effergin . That would have a lot more benefit

Unlikely to have been just cocaine though. The other two times he got caught he had a cocktail of five substances mixed together.

As humans we have the tendency to forgive people, when they are amazingly talented. Maradona has proven that he is a football genius way before his addiction to drugs. The biggest mistake of his life was to go play for Napoli where they treated him like god and they introduced him to cocaine.

      1. Dr Dream

I have a similar team and probably doing Haz -> Salah. Might backfire but imo worth the risk as planning to captain Mo.

      1. RAFA THE GAFFA

Yeah and Haz has such low ownership he won’t hurt you if he hauls! But if Salah does it could be quite a rank drop and ML drop

    Hazard, silva, sterling, richarlson, gross
    Kane, vardy (Abraham)

    No more free transfers.

    B) Hazard > De Bruyne

    D) Hazard, Coutinho > De Bryne, Salah

Is it possible to get a decent gk/def backline spending no more than 4.8 per player?

    Thinking along the lines of:

    Elliott-Fab/Ryan/Pope
    Ward Duffy Fernandez Hunemeier(fodder) ?

I'm playing around with a WC team that has only Jones (5.1 for me) over 4.8.

      Pope - Elliot
      Jones - Gomez - Daniels - Mee - Dunk

All *should* play, so it's cheap, but with options.

Not necessarily for attacking, but he's better on bonus, and I think he's slightly more nailed after the last match. Gomez could retain the RB spot or move to CB over Lovren. Moreno looks nailed-ish, but I could see a shakeup there (Robertson, or even back to Milner for a few matches) if he keeps making mistakes.

Already done Alonso > Otamendi and got another FT and 1.9itb

    Foster Elliot
    Otamendi Bavies Ward Zanka Cresswell
    Silva Eriksen C-Moting Atsu Carroll
    Kane Vardy Jesus

    A) Cresswell > Duffy
    B) Cresswell > Yoshida
    C) C-Moting > Richarlison
    D) Jesus > Kun
    E) A combo of any of those for a -4
